EP49:How you can find potential homestead land hidden from real estate agents

11:44
In this video, we talk about a land search process real estate agents really don't want you to know. It is a great way to find "hidden" land that could become your next homestead property. By using tax data that is free to the public, you can find land tracts in an area you are interested. Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up. Ep71: When looking for homestead land avoid land on the move

11:08
In this video, we discuss an issue to be aware of when looking for homestead land. If you are looking at property with hills or mountains, take some time to look over the property for evidence of land slides. Depending on the size of the slide or the location, you may want to avoid buying property with a history of slips. Don't forget to take our homesteading survey by the end of this month in order to be registered for the Stormtech Parka. Ep124: Should homesteaders avoid grey market tractors?

11:39
We homesteaders are always looking for good deals. Many of us have or want to have a tractor to help out with projects. There are thousands of old tractors on the used market some of which are very good deals. What about grey market tractors? For years, people have been talking about them and the issues or benefits of owning one. Should you consider looking for a grey market tractor? Should you avoid one if you find a good one for sale? Websites we reference in this video are: http://www.orangetractortalks.com/2010/07/10-myths-about-kubota-gray-market-tractors/ https://www.kubotausa.com/gray-market-tractors Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up. EP76: Do a utility assessment before buying your homestead land

07:12
In this video, we talk about the importance of getting the details of your utilities figured out before making your land purchase. You may discover that the cost of getting certain utilities to the ideal spot on your land may be cost prohibitive. Make sure if you have already purchased your land, you get quotes from the utilities companies in writing before you start your building project. These unexpected costs can be devastating to your budget. Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up. Ep145:Why we started with pigs first on our homestead (and you should too)

12:56
In this video, I discuss the 5 top reasons we decided to start with pigs as our first livestock option on the homestead (besides backyard chickens). While all animals have pros and cons to raising, we really saw the pig as a great way to get started in animal husbandry due to cost, ease of raising, and quicker return on our investment. Ep 14: Get Paid to Raise Pigs on Your Homestead

18:49
In this episode, we show you how you can make a profit selling pork and still put a whole hog in your freezer for free. Many homesteaders are looking for ways to generate the income they need to stay on the homestead full time. This is a great source of extra income. These numbers are not pulled out of thin air. They are based on the feed receipts and actually finished weights of our pastured hogs. Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up. EP74: When looking for homestead land search for old easements and right-of-ways

07:41
In this video, we show a local homestead farm that has basically been ruined due to ATV traffic using an old county road easement for passage through the property. While this county road had been abandoned for decades and still isn't maintained by the county, the county recognizes it as a county easement and will not allow the property owners to limit access. These type of issues may not be obvious when you are looking to buy your homestead land but take the time to do your homework at the court house and talk to others that have lived around that property for a long time. Ep169: Should you avoid buying property without mineral rights?

25:42
In this video, we talk about the issues with land that does not include mineral rights. It is surprising how many ownership rights can be separated from a piece of land. If you are looking to buy land and it doesn't include mineral rights, should you pass? What are mineral rights? Do they trump surface rights? How do I find who owns mineral rights? Milling 2x4 lumber on the sawmill

15:48
Time to fire up the Norwood LM29 again to mill 2x4 lumber for our chicken hoop house. We took our first log from our felled tree from the previous week and put it on the sawmill only to realize it had a bad curve in it. 13:27
In this video, we document a multi-month process of trying to redirect a creek on our property and not use heavy equipment. There are times we don't want to spend the money or fuel on making minor changes to the lay of the land. Ep93: Why you should build your barn/shop before building your house

13:31
In this video, I talk about how we built our shop first as a garage apartment to live in as we prepared and designed the build of our house. The plan was to get on the property as quickly as possible so building a small, modest dwelling allowed us to move in within a couple months. The apartment was built so it could easily be converted into my workshop. Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up.
