This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. It tracks your visitor count if you have a lot of traffic. They'll sample the data unless you pay like a hundred or a hundred and fifty grand or whatever their price is per year. Google Analytics will show you how people are engaging throughout your site and what traffic sources are causing most conversions. Don't optimize for traffic. Optimize for traffic that causes conversions. 3:00 The second digital marketing tool I have for you is Ubersuggest. You're going to want to get rankings. You're going to want more search traffic. It's the most consistent traffic that you'll get. Yes. Social media traffic is easier and quicker to get. But Google's algorithm updates aren't as crazy as Facebook's. It won't be where one day you're getting 300,000 visitors from Facebook organic reach and the next day you're getting 10,000 visitors. Google's organic traffic is very, very consistent. So use Ubersuggest. 3:40 The third digital marketing tool I have for you is Google Search Console. We love doing this internally, where we take Google search console, we log in; we look at all the posts, how many impressions they get, how many clicks they get and the click-through rate. We look for the posts that get less than a five percent click-through rate. We look at all the keywords that were getting impressions from that post, and then we integrate those keywords into that blog post or that landing page, and we rewrite that content. 7:30 The fourth digital marketing tool is Crazyegg. Crazyegg shows me how people are engaging with my website. How far they're scrolling. Where they're clicking. It allows me to take that data and, within Crazyegg, you don't have to be a developer, you don't have to be a designer. You can adjust your page and run A/B tests to maximize your sales. Because it's not just about getting traffic, it's about converting those visitors into conversions. Another tool that I love using is called Subscribers. It's through push notifications. People will come through to your website, but they don't come back. 8:00 The fifth digital marketing tool is called Subscribers. It's through push notifications. People will come through to your website, but they don't come back. What it does is it puts a little browser notification when people come to your site and gets them to subscribe without being obtrusive, it does it all within the browser. 9:00 The last digital marketing tool that I'm going to give you guys that you guys should check out is HubSpot. HubSpot's a great tool to look at your overall marketing, your lead count. It integrates marketing with sales, and that's why I want to end with HubSpot. I love it. I use it, and sure some people may say "Hey, there are other tools that do this or that." HubSpot has a lot of free plans, and they have some startup plans, which is very entrepreneur friendly, and best of all is they keep adding more and more stuff for free, so why not? They're a huge billion dollar company that are trying to crush their competitors, so they're just releasing a lot of stuff for free. Hey, that's for your benefit. 10:00 All this data and these digital marketing tools, with no action, is useless. You're better off saving the money and not even paying or using any of them. The top 4 social networks to promote your events are: Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Instagram So how do you make sure your marketing campaign is fresh and that you can make the most of reaching billions of users on social media? Tactic #1 - It's All About Visuals Pictures and video are the new social currency. Nobody reads anymore. Not enough time, not enough focus. On the other hand, it’s very easy to double tap on a picture. Collect as many assets as possible from your current event that you can repurpose. A solid photography investment is the basis of modern social media strategies. These visual assets will be key on pretty much every social network. Whether it is Linkedin or Snapchat, you will need an enormous amount of assets to create a coordinated campaign that delivers. Tactic #2 - Create FOMO The whole purpose of your social media marketing campaign is to create Fear Of Missing Out. Hire influencers to attend your event and spread the word about your event. Entice them with targeted registration codes, get them to participate in the lead up to the event with interviews, takeovers, behind the scenes. Remember that your performers or entertainers or speakers are the prime influencers, so give them collaterals they can share on social networks. Tactic #3 - Gamify Promotions Get people talking about your event online. You can use tools such as event apps or special discount codes to create a community before the event. Gamification such as competitions and scavenger hunts can be effective. Offer prizes: A special sit down with a celebrity A special access to a closed area of your event 20% off the ticket or a free ticket Tactic #4 - Be Present All Year Round If you wake up two months before the event, it’s not going to work, you will not get the exposure. Social networks now have algorithms that assign visibility based on your activity and performance of updates. If you want to give it the best shot, you need to be engaged and present all year long. Tactic #5 - Quality Not Quantity Back in the day, there was one golden rule about the use of social media to promote events: the more updates and content the merrier. Nowadays, attention has shifted from quantity to quality. The only exception is for stories. Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat give you more prominence if you create more stories. The same is not true for regular updates though. Curating fewer updates but providing the highest quality content. It’s really about curating that one daily or weekly update that is going to give you the maximum exposure. Algorithms will favor you if you focus on fewer updates but of higher quality. Tactic #6 - Combine Social Ads Combine Social ads for maximum effectiveness There is no chance anyone will see your updates on social networks such as Facebook if you don’t combine your strategy with a strong ad budget. The same goes for Youtube. You should allocate some budget to seed your content, especially at the beginning. Organic opportunities will kick in later but always allocate a budget that can range anywhere between $10 and $1,000 dollars per update if you really want to increase the visibility of your updates. Are you a real estate agent or looking to grow your real estate company? Take a few minutes and check out these 10 digital marketing tips to help grow your brand. 1) Establish your niche. What type of real estate do you focus on? What price ranges? What neighborhoods? Be as specific as possible so you can build your branding, audience and all your marketing campaigns around it! Start very niche, you can always expand later. But try to become the local expert in one area before expanding out. 2) Build a highly convertible and professional website (mobile first) which targets your niche! Use a strong IDX listing program like IDX Broker which allows you to get the design, functionality and SEO value you need to succeed! Take pride in your content - your website is your 24/7 sales person that never calls in sick! Build in strong call to actions with your information so people can reach out! Make it easy to request more info, request walkthroughs and more. Also make it easy for people to share properties on social media! Even if they don’t buy, but the experience was good, ask for a review! 7) Get on 1st page of Google for your top niche keywords (organically and paid). Spend money to be on top of the page for your very best search terms. Also make sure to build pages on the different types of properties you sell, the locations, neighborhoods, etc.. Research the best keywords, then build pages for them and add content and pull in ongoing blog posts about it. One idea for blogging is to do a blog on each property and make a video! Having a well thought out marketing plan is essential for success. Your business relies on it! So let’s break down 10 questions you need to ask yourself in order to get the most out of your marketing plan. Question #1 - What want or need does your product or service fill? Understand the pain point of your customers is key to building a good marketing plan. The more you know, the better your message. Question #2 - What is your target market? Who, What, When, Where, Why? Age, gender, interests, lifestyle, etc. Knowing these things are vital to a strong marketing plan. Where do they spend their time online? How do they currently find or become aware of companies that fill the want or need are trying to fill? Question #3 - Who are your competitors? Try them! What makes you different? Why choose you? If you don’t have direct competitors, what are other solutions out there that try to fill the wants/needs of your customers? What makes you the best option? Question #4 - What are the goals of your marketing plan? How many sales or leads do you want (or need) to get from it? What is your target Cost Per Acquisition (CPA)? What is your starting budget and what percent of sales do you plan to invest back into marketing as you grow? When do you expect to achieve those metrics? Reverse engineer your goals and build realistic projections that ramp into achieving them because remember - marketing does not work overnight. Question #5 - What is your strategy for search and social? What keywords do you want to rank for and run ads for on Google? What keywords do you want to rank high for on maps? What social channels do you want to build a presence on, what kind of content do you want to post and what kind of ads do you want to run. The question is, how do you best take advantage of text message marketing so you are truly adding value and not being annoying? Let’s talk about how to do this. Step 1 - Decide what information you want to text. This is key. Think of your text campaigns as VIP type content for your best and most loyal followers and customers. What do they really want? Is it hot deals, such as with an eCommerce store or Restaurant? Maybe important news/alerts/updates, such as with a dance club’s class schedule changes or snow closure reports? Maybe it’s to help capture online reviews, such as a Roofer after a job, who can later use that opt-in list after it hails to send a message for a free roofing inspection! What kind of VIP deals can you send on slow days or at the end of the month to help you reach your sales goals? Write them down! Step 2 - Once you understand what kind of messages you’d like to send and when, think about how you’ll build your subscriber list. Create an automated message that gives new subscribers some form of value instantly, such as an instant coupon or offer! Make sure your messages are 140 characters or less. Use URL shorteners (like https://m360.us ) to link to offers or landing pages with more info. Also dynamically pull in the user’s name if possible to make it more personal. If you use YouTube links in your message, it will actually pull the entire video into your text message directly! Step 5 - Keep track of your subscriber growth, make changes to your opt-in campaigns if needed so you’re seeing good growth. Without a list to text there is no value! So it all starts there. Step 6 - Send your messages at the right time when you feel your users are ready to take action. Remember, text is real time and 97% of subscribers see it within 1-15 minutes. So send the message when you feel they are most ready to take action, such as just before lunch for a restaurant or in the evening shopping time for an eCommerce store.
