Now I mention in a lot of videos increasing your sodium intake, in some videos I talk about magnesium, some videos I talk about potassium. But in this video I want to break it down all into one. I want to help you understand what happens in your body when you're in a low carb state or when you're in a fasted state and why minerals become extremely, extremely, extremely important. So we have to remember that even when we're fasting or when we're cutting card out of the diet, we are not holding nearly as much water. You see for every one gram of carbohydrate that you consume, you hold on average 3.7 grams of water. So that means when you cut these carbohydrates out your body is losing a lot of water. Now, to make matters worse, ketones like beta hydroxy butyrate that our body produces when we're fasting or when we're in a ketogenic state are proven to be somewhat of a diuretic as is, so they make it a little bit worse. They cause your body to excrete even more water. So let's talk about three minerals today. I want to talk about sodium, I want to talk about potassium and I also want to talk about magnesium. So let's start with sodium. Heres the thing, first and foremost when your body isn't holding onto the water as much you're going to drop some sodium. It's going to head on out along with the water. You're just going to excrete it out. But there's an additional thing that happens that we have to be cognizant of and that's the fact that your insulin levels are very low. So whether you're fasting or on a ketogenic diet, your insulin levels are lower and insulin helps regulate the kidney's ability to reabsorb sodium. So when insulin isn't present, the kidneys tend to just flush that sodium out of the equation. So now you have two different things going on. Your losing water because you don't have the carbs, you don't have the actual volume. But then you actually have a function of the kidneys themselves that are causing the body to just excrete extra sodium. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because I will honestly say that the benefits of having lower levels of insulin probably supersede the actual negative aspects of your body excreting sodium because it's a lot easier to add more sodium into the diet. There was one study that was published in the American Journal of Medicine that took a look at 51 obese patients. Now these 51 obese patients they put on a low carb diet, okay, they put them on a 25 carb diet for about six months. They kept their calories still relatively high though, they just cut their carbs down. Well what they found was that at the end of six months, all the patients that were on the low carb diet had an increase in blood urea nitrogen levels. What does this end up meaning? This means that their body was losing sodium. They also found that their blood levels of sodium were significantly reduced compared to those that didn't go on a low carb diet. So we do have legitimate telltale proof that going on a low carb diet does slow down the ability to retain sodium and it does make it so you lose a little bit of that salt that's helping your blood pressure stay up. Claim #12. SMART-1 uncovered minerals different from those found in NASAs moon rocks. Jarrah claims that SMART-1 performed a soil sample analysis while it was pounding into the moon at 4500 mph. The he shows ABC News coverage of the SMART-1 impact which says that the probe has uncovered minerals different to the rocks gathered on the surface during moon walks. The key is the chemical signatures in the dust and debris thrown up by the collision. This is the most legitimate sounding evidence that Jarrah gives through his entire two hour documentary. The only thing they don't tell us, is what those new minerals are. In fact, at the end of the broadcast, the announcer says, "it's hoped results [of the analysis of the dust thrown up by the crash] will be available within a year." It is fairly obvious that the news teaser he presents over and over again was probably made to sound interesting to attract an audience for the ABC Sunday Night News. It appears to be a mix of information from several different articles on the ABC website. And Jarrah completely misses the fact that scientists expect to find new minerals on the moon someday. A mineral has one specific chemical composition, whereas a rock can be an aggregate of different minerals or mineraloids. The study of minerals is called mineralogy. Minerals are classified by variety, species, series and group, in order of increasing generality. As of November 2018, there are more than 5,500 known mineral species; 5,389 of these have been approved by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA).Minerals are distinguished by various chemical and physical properties. Differences in chemical composition and crystal structure distinguish the various species, which were determined by the mineral's geological environment when formed. Changes in the temperature, pressure, or bulk composition of a rock mass cause changes in its minerals. Within a mineral species there may be variation in physical properties or minor amounts of impurities that are recognized by mineralogists or wider society as a mineral variety, for example amethyst, a purple variety of the mineral species quartz. Minerals can be described by their various physical properties, which are related to their chemical structure and composition. Common distinguishing characteristics include crystal structure and habit, hardness, lustre, diaphaneity, colour, streak, tenacity, cleavage, fracture, parting, specific gravity, magnetism, taste or smell, radioactivity, and reaction to acid. Minerals are classified by key chemical constituents; the two dominant systems are the Dana classification and the Strunz classification. Silicon and oxygen constitute approximately 75% of the Earth's crust, which translates directly into the predominance of silicate minerals. The silicate minerals compose over 90% of the Earth's crust. The silicate class of minerals is subdivided into six subclasses by the degree of polymerization in the chemical structure. All silicate minerals have a base unit of a [SiO4]4− silica tetrahedron—that is, a silicon cation coordinated by four oxygen anions, which gives the shape of a tetrahedron. These tetrahedra can be polymerized to give the subclasses: orthosilicates (no polymerization, thus single tetrahedra), disilicates (two tetrahedra bonded together), cyclosilicates (rings of tetrahedra), inosilicates (chains of tetrahedra), phyllosilicates (sheets of tetrahedra), and tectosilicates (three-dimensional network of tetrahedra). During his tenure with Franklin, Mr. Freas played a key role in growing the firm from two operations and two mineral commodities to eleven operations and seven different minerals. Prior to joining Franklin, Mr. Freas was Director of Operations and Corporate Secretary, Limecrest Corporation, Sparta, NJ. Prior to that, he was Chief Geologist, Dravo Lime Company, Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Freas has authored over forty professional/technical articles and papers, including publications on both lime and limestone as a scrubber reagent material, and articles on mineral marketing, logistics, and resource development. Mr. Freas is Past-President of the Board of Trustees of the United Engineers Foundation, Vice Chairman of the Board for the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, and a member of the Board of the SME Foundation. Minerals originate in the earth and cannot be made by living organisms. Plants get minerals from soil. Most of the minerals in a human diet come from eating plants and animals or from drinking water. As a group, minerals are one of the four groups of essential nutrients, the others of which are vitamins, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids. The five major minerals in the human body are calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and magnesium. All of the remaining elements in a human body are called "trace elements". The trace elements that have a specific biochemical function in the human body are sulfur, iron, chlorine, cobalt, copper, zinc, manganese, molybdenum, iodine and selenium.Most chemical elements that are ingested by organisms are in the form of simple compounds. Plants absorb dissolved elements in soils, which are subsequently ingested by the herbivores and omnivores that eat them, and the elements move up the food chain. Larger organisms may also consume soil (geophagia) or use mineral resources, such as salt licks, to obtain limited minerals unavailable through other dietary sources. Bacteria and fungi play an essential role in the weathering of primary elements that results in the release of nutrients for their own nutrition and for the nutrition of other species in the ecological food chain. One element, cobalt, is available for use by animals only after having been processed into complex molecules (e.g., vitamin B12) by bacteria. Minerals are used by animals and microorganisms for the process of mineralizing structures, called "biomineralization", used to construct bones, seashells, eggshells, exoskeletons and mollusc shells.

I'm talking about potentially ditching your multivitamins, if you're not someone that actually needs it. This video came to light simply because a lot of people that have talked to and a lot of people that I've worked with, have had a very, very hard time letting go of their multivitamins. They take these multivitamins and they see them as their crutch. They see them as the end all be all and their link to healthy eating or the void fill from the nutrients that they're missing from their food. But the reality is there's a lot more to just popping a multivitamin and getting your vitamins and minerals in. So first off what I want to look at is the fact that 50% of Americans take a multivitamin. That is a lot, a lot of people that are misled. A lot of people are leading themselves to believe that they're getting all their vitamins and minerals and getting what they need from a simple pill. Also in reality, we have to look at how much money is being spent. We're talking like $11 billion dollars that people are spending on multivitamins. That's a lot of money. Okay, so let's talk about what is happening with a multivitamin and why it may not be the best thing for you. I'm not discounting it. I'm not saying that everyone should avoid taking a multivitamin. There are some subcategories of people that might want to take them, but I want to talk about some reality when it comes down to just popping that pill. First thing I want to look at is too many nutrients, okay? The simple thing is we have to look at this. If our bodies have the ability to take in all these minerals and all of these vitamins at once, don't you think there would be a food out there that truly encompasses all of them? You see, normally we have to eat different subcategories of foods to ultimately make up our nutrients. Now, if it was so easy as just popping a pill, I think that a lot more people would be really, truly healthy and if it was really possible to absorb all those vitamins and minerals at once, I think we'd have some foods that contain all those vitamins and minerals. We have to remember that we require specific enzymatic functions to truly synthesize and utilize different vitamins, minerals, and metals within the body. Each vitamin that we take in each mineral that we take in has a different process to actually being utilized and if we take them all in at once, we're not really allowing the body to do that efficiently. You're much better off knowing what is going to work for you and isolating specific vitamins and specific minerals for your type, for your bio individuality. So the thing we have to look at with multivitamins and we have this constant competition going on. Okay? We have constant competition of different minerals that sometimes need to be elevated and sometimes need to be lower, but we also have way too much of specific minerals. References: 1) Inc., G. Do you have a lot of plastic bottles in your garage? Do not rush to throw them away - they can be useful. You can make ottoman out of bottles, various dispensers and stands, vases, salt shakers, organizers, kitchen gadgets, camping washstand, broom, and even a life jacket! Imagine you are at sea with a child or girl who does not know how to swim. You can make a life jacket for them with your own hands. You need a T-shirt, a lace and a few bottles. Attach the bottle to the shirt as I show. You don’t need any glue or scotch tape. How to make an ottoman for the legs? Seal the bottles in a bundle with tape. Cut out of cardboard or plywood two circles of a suitable diameter. Attach these circles to the bottom and top of the bundle of bottles. Put cotton wool or foam rubber on top. Cover this construction with a cloth - use a stapler. Plastic bottles will help you when cooking. You can make a candy pastry syringe out of them, a cookie cutter mode, a tool for forming kebab, a cereal dispenser. Puff Pastry Recipe First prepare a cookies cutter: cut a strip from a plastic bottle and make a heart out of it. Cut a sheet of dough into squares. Cut out the hearts with your cutter in half the squares. In this video, I cover the exact choices I make when it comes to the supplements I use to help me build muscle and stay lean year round. From the vitamins and minerals I take to the workout protein powders and formulas, everything I take in a day is covered and explained. For me, my morning starts with my essential fatty acids. I take both an omega-6 fatty acid in the form of evening primrose oil, as well as a high grade pharmaceutical omega-3 fish oil. The primrose is something I take because I tend to eat a very clean diet almost devoid of the highly processed foods that commonly are in abundance in the average diet. That combined with the fact that I carry a low body fat percentage year round, tends to make my essential omega-6’s that much more essential. I also have Reynaud’s, which is a form of impaired circulation to the hands and feet, that primrose oil has been shown to be helpful in treating. The omega-3’s are taken once in the morning, and again at lunch and at dinner. The grade of the oils is of prime importance when choosing an omega-3. Like prescription grade lovaza, Dr. C’s Omega-3’s are an incredibly potent form of essential fatty acids that have been shown to not only promote overall health and well being but also speed up muscle recovery by helping you recover from muscle inflammation. I take 1500mg of vitamin C, 1000 iu of vitamin E, CoQ10 and green tea extract to meet these needs here. As I point out in the video, I do get adequate levels of both C and E in y diet, however I still take these as an insurance policy and investment in my own health. Just be sure that you don’t take too much vitamin E as it is a fat soluble vitamin that can be taken in excess and not easily removed from the body. Green tea extract provides additional blood sugar stabilizing effects via it’s impact on insulin sensitivity and therefore finds it’s way into my daily supplement regime every morning. Each of the above vitamins are taken once with breakfast as described in the video. Next I take the ultimate insurance policy, a multivitamin. I believe again that while we tend to get the majority of our major vitamins from food, we do not necessarily address all of our micronutrient needs (especially if we tend to follow somewhat restrictive eating plans or styles) so I feel more comfortable taking a multi as a backup. One of the most important areas of late for me has been joint recovery supplementation. Having dealt with a bad right shoulder from a torn labrum, as well as two bad knees, I not only felt the need to take but actually set out and developed what I feel is the absolute most comprehensive joint recovery formula available.
