So how do you write the perfect cover letter? This short video will give you the necessary steps to create an effective cover letter that helps you land interviews. We often hear people ask - Do I need to send a cover letter? The answer is yes. You should always send a cover letter unless the job posting says no cover letter is required. The point of a cover letter is to give a bit of an introduction as to who you are, your interest in the position, and why you think you’d make a good fit. It also adds a human touch to the plain old boring resume. Ok, So let's get started…. The first thing we’re going to cover is the format and then we’ll cover the things you absolutely need to mention in your cover letter if you want to stand out from the hundreds of other job seekers. Ok let's take a look at how a cover letter should be formatted.. As you see in our template, your header should be your name , contact number and email address. You can keep it similar to the header on your resume but don’t include your address. You should then include the receiver's name, title, company name and address. If you can’t find the name of the hiring manager, you could leave that off. You can address the letter as “dear hiring manager” but always try to make an effort to find out the hiring manager in charge. You should try to keep your cover letter between a half a page to ⅔ of a page long. Remember that most employers only spend a few seconds going through your resume and cover letter. No one wants to read an in- depth page long cover letter. Three paragraphs is a good length and we’ll go through what each paragraph should contain - we’ll then show you an example of an excellent cover letter. Paragraph 1 should be an introduction to who you are and the position you’re applying for. Include where or how you found the opening, The title and a job ID number if there is one. You should also lead into the next paragraph by stating a brief summary of qualifications or your interest in the position. The second paragraph should discuss your qualifications and the achievements which show why you’re a good fit for the position. Remember that you want to stand out from the other hundreds of candidates that are applying for the position. So don’t just give examples of what you did in your last position, show how you went above and beyond. Mention a few examples of quantifiable or measurable achievements in your career. Use compelling language and don’t repeat the information in your resume. Try to bring your experience to life and this will encourage the reader to look into your resume in more detail. In the third and last paragraph, Close it out by saying you feel that you’re a good fit based on your qualifications. Remember, you should include a call of action - which in this case would be inviting you to an interview. Ask them to give you call and schedule in interview. And the The last thing you should do is thank them for taking the time out to consider you. Lets put this template into action. Here is an example of a great cover letter: Hi Susan, I’m writing to you to express my interest in the Accounting position you have open on your company website with the job ID# 11220. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and am confident that my experience and skill set would be a great match for this position. I have a strong knowledge of accounting principles backed by experience I have gained in the last 12 years. In my previous position, I managed the accounting of a financial consulting firm with over $30 million in revenue. I not only met expectations but exceeded them by increasing cash flow by $4 million. I helped achieve this by changing our accounts receivable policy and negotiating better contracts. There is more depth on my experience and skills in my resume which I would appreciate you looking over. I am certain that my experience and skill set would make me a great candidate for this position as well as a great asset to your company. Please give me a call at the number above to schedule an interview at your convenience. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, John Smith So there you have it. Remember to include these 3 points in your resume - * Who you are * Your qualifications and how they can benefit the employer * And a call to action asking to schedule an interview.

I'm Jenny Rae, the managing director and today we have the first part for you of a three part series which is focused on the major types of firms in the consulting industry we have three types of firms we're going to focus on across these three videos one is the top three firms the second are tier two firms and the third are big four firms so as we go through this series it's going to be incredibly helpful I'm going to compare each of the firm's on six aspects and I'm doing them in groups because their relative similarities about each one of them's the focus of today's is on McKinsey Bain & VCG so what sets McKinsey Bain and BCG apart like I said there are six factors that I think distinguish each of the firms from one another so I'm going to highlight what McKinsey batum because you bring to the table the first is branding and prestige with clients because McKenzie Bain and BCG have been around in general the longest out of the top consulting firms they have the greatest mesh focus just on pure strategy and command the highest price point because of generally their expertise but also their brand they're able to have access to clients in the Fortune 1000 realm around the world as well as key executive officers with inside the firm not only the chief executive officers but also operating officers in each of the specific divisions because of this the firms are able to create a tremendous amount of impact and what that would mean for you if you work for women firms is that you have access to really interesting business problems decision makers at very senior levels and also the ability to have an impact on the corporation that many of you may even know as a household name the second area are salaries and perks because the firm's command to the highest price point they're generally able to pass that on not entirely but in part to the people who are working down in the trenches the analysts and associates and the key goal here is that you feel valued while you're at the firm that you're able to feel adequately compensated and also that you're able to stay re-energized based on the fair compensation they give usually this compensation is under what investment bankers would make but above what any other consulting firm would pay in the industry and not only are the salary an important aspect of the compensation structure but the perks that go along with it are also important in top consulting firms you're generally put up at very nice hotels you're given access to pretty lakhs expense budgets and you're able to really focus on lifestyle aspects that are important to you in addition you are treated with ...

Have you ever had a bad experience with a company? Do you remember your frustration as you tried to resolve the issue? This week we're going to show you how to work with your Attorney General. Transcription: Hello, and welcome to Your Money 2.0. I’m Thomas Fox, Community Outreach Director at Cambridge Credit Counseling. Have you ever had a bad experience with a company? Do you remember your frustration as you tried to resolve the issue? Well, if you’re battling over poor service, misleading advertising, or unscrupulous scam artists, there is a way for you to receive help through your Attorney General’s office. Each year, hundreds of thousands of consumers contact their state’s Attorney General for assistance; unfortunately, even more people decide not to file complaints, often because they’re unsure about the resolution process or think that’s it’s going to cost them a lot to pursue the matter. Well, this week we’re going to show you how to work with your Attorney General. First things first - before filing a complaint with your attorney general you should attempt to resolve the issue on your own. Before contacting the business in question, put your concerns on paper and gather any corresponding records. To keep things simple, make a bulleted list of details that will aid you in the resolution process. You may also wish to make this a ‘living document,’ where you can add critical information if you need to elevate your complaint to management, the attorney general, or any other consumer protection agency. Some helpful information to gather would include the time, the date or dates of interaction, the name of the representative you dealt with at the company in question, and an overview of the conversation. You should also do some research about the company’s own complaint resolution process. Remember: you’re not obligated to follow their procedure – you’re free to contact the attorney general at any time, but the company’s process may be all you need to come to a satisfactory conclusion. Once you’ve outlined your concerns and gathered pertinent information, contact the organization to begin the dispute process. Cooler heads generally prevail in these situations, so be sure to stay calm and stick to the facts. Detail your concerns, and the specific actions you expect from the company to set things right. If you find the representative unhelpful, it’s ok to request to speak with their supervisor. These individuals have more latitude than their subordinates, and it can’t hurt to get a decision-maker on the phone if things don’t seem to be going your way. If you’re dealing with a reputable service, most consumer issues can be resolved this way. However, if you are still encountering difficulties, send a letter to the company’s president outlining your issue and the interactions you’ve had so far. Be sure to include your name and telephone number, and keep things brief. If these efforts don’t work, file a formal complaint with your State Attorney General’s office. It’s important to realize the Attorney General will not provide legal advice; however, they are powerful advocates to have in your corner. Your complaint should detail your issue, the steps you’ve taken to remedy the situation, and any other information that would be helpful to their office. Once you file a complaint a few things can happen. The AG may forward your concerns to a local consumer group or to another state or federal agency for review. If so, you’ll be notified of the agency that will be handing your complaint. It will take time, so be patient. In some instances the Attorney General’s office will place your complaint with a mediator who will work with you and the business in question, to resolve the issue. Mediators are typically located in your community, and can be powerful resources for consumers. They’re knowledgeable about the possible legal implications of your complaint, and they can provide you with an advocate who is well versed and adequately prepared to support you. Another benefit of mediation is that you’ll have someone with whom you can meet face-to-face to discuss your concerns. It is important to note that businesses are not required to participate in mediation; however, many will choose to resolve a complaint in this manner. Your Attorney General’s office can be your best ally, and the source you may need, in resolving disputes, but they can’t get involved unless you take the first step and let them know about the situation. I know that it can feel like nobody is listening, but there are people and processes in place to help you every step of the way. If you feel you’ve been wronged by a business or other service provider, you don’t have to be a victim. Contact your Attorney General for advice and support. This should help you feel more relaxed and calm during the interview. Remember, the people interviewing you were in your position at one point. They want someone who is authentic and that will be compatible with their patients and team members. So, just be you! Do Your Research Research the organization and unit you are applying for. You should have a basic understanding of the organization’s history, mission, and vision. You should also be familiar with the unit or department. Find out if they are known for anything or have received any types of awards or certifications. Make a Portfolio Don’t just have a resume. Have a portfolio! This will help you stand out from the other candidates and will show that you are prepared and organized. Be sure to leave them with a portfolio after the interview. This will allow the decision makers to share your portfolio with the team and will leave them with something to remember you by. What to include in your portfolio: Resume Letter(s) of Recommendation Certifications (CPR, ALCS, PALS, CCRN, etc.) Research or Papers Volunteer / Community Service Participation in Professional Associations Remember Keywords Have a list of keywords that you want to bring up during your interview. Here is a list of my recommendations: Teamwork Collaboration Effective Efficient Patient Centered Culturally Competent Responsible Practice Interview Questions -Each answer should have a beginning, middle, and end -Always end each question with something positive -Silence is OK. Feel free to pause and think about your answer. Don’t rush. -Be prepared for specific questions relating to the unit you are applying for. (ie. Oncology, pediatrics, OB, surgery, ER, etc.) Examples of interview questions: Tell me about yourself. What made you choose nursing and why did you choose this department? Describe a time when you disagreed with a co-worker. How was the issue resolved? Explain a time when you went above and beyond your basic responsibilities? Collaboration is key in healthcare. Explain a time when you collaborated with others. What was the situation and outcome? Mistakes happen. Explain a time when you made an error and how you handled it? Here, we inspire innovation. Describe a time when you had to be innovative. What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness? Ask Questions This is your chance to ask questions. And please do!! This will show that you are engaged and interested in learning more about the position. Examples: What is the patient to nurse ratio? What is the orientation process? Any opportunities to participate in a unit practice council? When should I expect to hear from you? Always Follow-Up Send an email to the HR coordinator and interviewer within a few hours after your interview. Thank them for taking time out of their day to learn about your past experience and career goals. This will also give you chance to tell them anything important you may have left out during your interview. Another reason to follow-up is if you don’t hear back within a reasonable timeframe about the status of your interview. Send the HR coordinator or person who interviewed you a friendly email asking about the status. Don’t feel bad about this, especially if there was a time expectation that was set. Practice!!! This is KEY! Always practice before each and every interview. Rehearse with a family member or friend. Practice your introduction, answering questions, asking questions, and using your keywords. Do not over practice because you don’t want to sound stiff or over rehearsed. You are not trying to memorize a script. Instead, you should practice to get comfortable. 5 tips To Make a Killer First Impression - personality Development & English lessons by Niharika Most people will judge you within the first few seconds of meeting you and their view will most likely never change. Making a good first impression is utmost important, because you only get one chance at it. It takes just a quick glance, maybe three seconds, for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your attitude, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed. So, whether they are in your career or social life, it's important to know how to create a good first impression. This lesson by Niharika provides some useful tips to help you do this. 1. Set an intention. The most important thing to do for giving a good impression is to set your intention. This is especially important before any kind of big event where you would be meeting a lot of people — i.e. conferences, networking events or friend's parties. As you get ready or when you are driving over think about what kind of people you want to meet and what kind of interactions you want to have. This can be an incredibly grounding experience and works very well to focus on what kind of energy you want to have for your event. 2. Present Yourself Appropriately Of course physical appearance matters. The person you are meeting for the first time does not know you and your appearance is usually the first clue he or she has to go on. But it certainly does not mean you need to look like a model to create a strong and positive first impression. The key to a good impression is to present yourself appropriately. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and so the "picture" you first present says much about you to the person you are meeting. Is your appearance saying the right things to help create the right first impression? Start with the way you dress. What is the appropriate dress for the meeting or occasion? In a business setting, what is the appropriate business attire? Suit, blazer, casual? And ask yourself what the person you'll be meeting is likely to wear -- if your contact is in advertising or the music industry, a pinstripe business suit may not strike the right note! For business and social meetings, appropriate dress also varies between countries and cultures, so it's something that you should pay particular attention to when in an unfamiliar setting or country. Make sure you know the traditions and norms. And what about your grooming? Clean and tidy appearance is appropriate for most business and social occasions. A good haircut or shave. Clean and tidy clothes. Neat and tidy make up. Make sure your grooming is appropriate and helps make you feel "the part". Appropriate dressing and grooming help make a good first impression and also help you feel "the part", and so feel more calm and confident. Add all of this up and you are well on your way to creating a good first impression. 3. Be Open and Confident When it comes to making the first impression, body language as well as appearance speaks much louder than words. Use your body language to project appropriate confidence and self-assurance. Stand tall, smile (of course), make eye contact, greet with a firm handshake. All of this will help you project confidence and encourage both you and the other person to feel better at ease. Almost everyone gets a little nervous when meeting someone for the first time, which can lead to nervous habits or sweaty palms. By being aware of your nervous habits, you can try to keep them in check. And controlling a nervous jitter or a nervous laugh will give you confidence and help the other person feel at ease. 4. Be Courteous and Attentive It goes without saying that good manners and polite, attentive and courteous behavior help make a good first impression. In fact, anything less can ruin the one chance you have at making that first impression. So be on your best behavior! One modern manner worth mentioning is "turn off your mobile phone". What first impression will you create if you are already speaking to someone other than the person you are meeting for the first time? Your new acquaintance deserves 100% of your attention. Anything less and you'll create a less than good first impression. 5. Close on a good note. Keep them wanting more. Show that you had a really good time and would like to see them again. Maybe even text them saying so when you get home. People on a first date not only want to have a good time, but they want to know that you did as well. They want that reassurance. It’s time to close the barn doors.The parent company for the fashion retailer Dressbarn said this week that it would close all of its approximately 650 stores.Gary Muto, the chief executive of Ascena Retail Group Inc., which also owns Lane Bryant, Ann Taylor and Loft, wrote a letter to customers about the news and thanked them for 57 years of loyalty.“It has been our pleasure to serve you, making it all the more difficult to let you know that the decision has been made to begin winding down the Dressbarn business,” Mr. Muto said. “This means that we will eventually be closing all of our stores.”Although Mr. Muto did not share a specific timeline for the closings, he said there would be no changes to the current return, refund, or gift card policies or loyalty reward programs. He did invite customers to stock up before doors close, though.Mr. Muto did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.In a statement Monday, Steven Taylor, the chief financial officer of Dressbarn, alluded to poor performance.“This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment,” Mr. Taylor said. “During the wind down process, we will continue to provide our customers with the same great experience both in-store and online, offering them even better deals and value. We will work to assist our associates through the transition and maintain existing relationships with our vendors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders through this process.”The statement said Dressbarn’s 6,800 associates would receive information about specific store closings and would be offered transition support. According to its website, there are stores in 45 of the 50 states.A recent credit analysis provided by Moody’s Investors Services, a company that tracks both credit ratings and debt for companies, said that Dressbarn’s parent company, Ascena, earned $6.6 billion in revenue ending November 2018. However, the report projects a “significant” earnings decline in 2019.“The exit of Dressbarn will be positive in the long term, as it leaves a stronger and more profitable core business,” said Raya Sokolyanska, a Moody’s vice president. “However, the wind-down could cause some disruption in the company’s overall operations and require meaningful one-time charges, using up some of the company’s available cash that would otherwise be available for debt repayment.”Neil Saunders, the managing director for GlobalData Retail, said Dressbarn had been in decline for some time, losing customers to competitors like TJ Maxx, Target and even Walmart. “It doesn’t come as a particular surprise,” Mr. Saunders said, adding the brand didn’t “evolve” with its customers.He predicted it would take Ascena six to 12 months to fully close all of its stores after making consultations with landlords and selling off inventory.Some on social media shared their dismay over the news.“Make all the har har barn joke
