Day in the Life of an Exchange Student | EXCHANGE YEAR JAPAN

10:18
Hey guys! Let me take you through a day in my life as a high school exchange student in Japan! Shoutout to my awesome friends for making this video all the better :) DISCLAIMER: I obviously only put the interesting or fun parts of my school day in this video. While I do enjoy most of it, the majority of the day is hard work and studying (or cleaning the classroom or toilets haha) which isn't really shown here. Unfortunately I wasn't able to film much during class, which is why more of the "fun" subjects (i.e. calligraphy) are shown, but trust me when I say that we had everything ranging from biology to history as well as traditional Japanese literature... And side note: all the extra choir practices were during our free time ;) DM me if you have any questions regarding exchange in Japan! Instagram: @geeky.grape xoxo Natasha

12 Most Insane Japanese School Rules You Won’t Believe Actually Exist

08:51
12 Most Insane Japanese School Rules You Won’t Believe Actually Exist ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Education and schooling traditions are wildly different in various parts of the world. What is perfectly normal in the UK may be completely unheard of in Germany, and the rules commonly found in the Japanese education system are certainly not usual in the USA! Japanese schools are notoriously strict and much more standardized than many schools in western countries. Nonetheless, they also net the kind of results that we in the west envy and desire to replicate. There are definitely some rules that you will find hard to believe; the question is, do they contribute to the resounding success of Japan’s education system? Here are 12 Japanese School Rules You Won’t Believe Actually Exist; 12. Kancho-ing the Teacher The word Kancho in itself is a slang version of the word used to denote a medical enema, but refers to a children’s game (believe it or not). Kanchoing is more of a tradition than a rule, but it’s definitely something to be aware of if you plan to teach English in Japan! 11. No Accessories! As you will soon find out, there is often a strict dress code in Japanese schools, but there is also a rule against using accessories to change your appearance! Students are prohibited from using colored contact lenses, dying their hair, and having unusual piercings. In fact, some schools even ban the painting of nails and the grooming of eyebrows! 10. Students are Prohibited from Dating and Having Open Relationships! Japan takes the education of its youngsters very seriously and brooks no distractions – even from other students! In Junior High Schools in particular, this is a view which is enforced with regulation. Junior High students are not allowed to date romantically or enter into an open relationship at all! 9. Cell Phones Are Not Allowed to be Used Inside the School The theme of education-first is one that can be seen in all Japanese school rules. As such, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that cell phones are also prohibited during lessons. However, you might be shocked to learn that they are not allowed to be used anywhere in the building at all. 8. Strict Dress Code Only twenty percent of schools in the USA have a dress code (and they are usually private schools), but in Japan, almost all schools from Junior High level upwards have a strict uniform to which students must adhere. 7. Punctuality Good timekeeping is a focus in pretty much all schooling systems, of course, but in Japan, it is taken very seriously! Children are expected to be in school at 8:30am on the button, and if they are more than five minutes late, you can be sure they will be punished to a certain degree. 6. Respectful Greetings Japanese culture is one which focusses heavily on respect; respect for authority figures and elders, as well as each other, is a key part of this for school children. As such, Japanese school children greet their teachers with a bow at the beginning of their lessons and say goodbye in the same manner. 5. The Sasumata American school children will no doubt be familiar with intruder drills, but in Japan, they take matters one step further by ensuring that there is something on hand to defend against violent intruders. 4. No Substitutes Can you imagine leaving a classroom full of American Junior High students unattended for a full period? Sounds like every teacher’s worst nightmare, right? Well, in Japan, this is commonplace. 3. Mandatory Swimming Lessons Japan is an island nation after all! Not only is swimming a part of the curriculum in Japan, but most schools actually have their own swimming pool to use. Students will swim as a part of their weekly education and are required to learn how to swim a minimum distance. 2. No Janitors Part of the culture of respect instilled in Japanese children includes caring for their surroundings and taking responsibility for their actions. This is why you won’t find janitors in any Japanese schools! 1. Summer Bummer Perhaps the biggest difference between Japanese and American schools, however, is the way summer vacation is structured. First and foremost, the vacation is only five weeks long. QnA: How I attended a Japanese High School (NON-EXCHANGE PROGRAM)

13:21
Hey guys! I often receive a lot of questions on my channel about all kinds of things including my "exchange" to a Japanese high school, so today I’d like to answer some frequent questions I receive as well as questions from social media. I know I addressed this like 2-3 months ago, I’m really sorry for the delay but here it is! Questions: Are you an exchange student? How were you able to study in Japan? Were the classes difficult for you? Did you struggle at all transitioning from classes in Australia to Japan? How much Japanese do you need to know to go on exchange? Host family advice? How old are you? Are you in college/university? How did you learn Japanese/English? What camera do you use? How do you film? What kind of humans do you like? What exotic meat have you tried? Are you a morning or night person? Are you a coffee or tea person? Would you rather read books or watch films? What are some of your favourite books? Do you have plans to visit Japan and when? 126: A Trader's Introduction to the Japanese Yen, Part III

04:31
http://www.informedtrades.com/48641-traders-introduction-japanese-yen-part-iii.html As we touched on in our first lesson in this series, Japan has few natural resources of their own, so they are an economy that relies heavily on imports of natural resources such as oil. This is something to keep in mind when trading the currency, because as Japan imports almost 100% of its oil from overseas, increases and decreases in the price of oil will normally have an affect on the value of the Yen. The second thing that it is important to keep in mind, is that the Japanese economy relies heavily on exports such as cars and electronics to grow their economy. As a result of this, the value of Japan's currency is an even more important factor in their economic growth than for countries which do not rely so heavily on exports to drive domestic growth. As we learned about in our lessons on trade flows, a stronger Yen automatically means that Japanese goods and services become more expensive for overseas consumers, which will hurt Japanese exports. To keep the Yen from rising to the point where it would hurt the Japanese economy, the Bank of Japan is notorious for intervening in the foreign exchange markets, which can send the value of the yen plummeting. Below is a graph provided by Dailyfx.com which shows some of the history of Japanese intervention, which as you can see tends to take place around the 100 level in the currency. As the BOJ has been so effective with intervention in the past, it has gotten to the point now where all they need to do is talk of intervention (something called verbal intervention) to yen based pairs rocketing higher. As with all the currency pairs we are studying, there are many economic indicators which affect the value of the yen, that we could spend much time discussing. As we have already covered the major indicators for the US in module 8 of our basics of trading course, and as the indicators in Japan are much the same, in the interest of maximizing our learning time I am going to point you towards two free sites for more information. The first is FX Words Trading Glossary and their economic indicators page for Japan the link to which you can find below this video. As you can see here they provide not only the definition of each of the major releases but also the importance of the indicator to the market. The second site is the global calander which you can find by clicking the calendar button at the top of dailyfx.com. As you can see here in addition to giving you the importance of the indicator, they also give you the time it is schedualed for release, the forcast, and where you can go to find out more information.

Money in Japan Japanology Japanese: 円 JP¥

27:25
The yen (Japanese: 円 Hepburn: en, symbol: ¥; code: JPY; also abbreviated as JP¥) is the official currency of Japan. It is the third most traded currency in the foreign exchange market after the United States dollar and the euro.[4] It is also widely used as a reserve currency after the U.S. dollar, the euro, and the pound sterling. The concept of the yen was a component of the Meiji government's modernization program of Japan's economy; which postulated the pursuit of a uniform currency throughout the country modeled after the European decimal currency system. Before the Meiji Restoration, Japan's feudal fiefs all issued their own money, hansatsu, in an array of incompatible denominations. The New Currency Act of 1871 did away with these and established the yen, which was defined as 1.5 g (0.048 troy ounces) of gold, or 24.26 g (0.780 troy ounces) of silver, as the new decimal currency. The former han (fiefs) became prefectures and their mints private chartered banks, which initially retained the right to print money. To bring an end to this situation the Bank of Japan was founded in 1882 and given a monopoly on controlling the money supply. Following World War II the yen lost much of its prewar value. To stabilize the Japanese economy the exchange rate of the yen was fixed at ¥360 per $1 as part of the Bretton Woods system. When that system was abandoned in 1971, the yen became undervalued and was allowed to float. The yen had appreciated to a peak of ¥271 per $1 in 1973, then underwent periods of depreciation and appreciation due to the 1973 oil crisis, arriving at a value of ¥227 per $1 by 1980. Since 1973, the Japanese government has maintained a policy of currency intervention, and the yen is therefore under a "dirty float" regime. This intervention continues to this day. The Japanese government focuses on a competitive export market, and tries to ensure a low yen value through a trade surplus. The Plaza Accord of 1985 temporarily changed this situation from its average of ¥239 per US$1 in 1985 to ¥128 in 1988 and led to a peak value of ¥80 against the U.S. dollar in 1995, effectively increasing the value of Japan’s GDP to almost that of the United States. Since that time, however, the yen has greatly decreased in value. The Bank of Japan maintains a policy of zero to near-zero interest rates and the Japanese government has an extreme anti-inflation policy Please Subscribe to my Channel and Follow me on Social Media: My Twitter: https://twitter.com/MellowinJapan My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mellowinjapan/ FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/MellowinJapan/ Website: http://www.mellowinjapan.com/ Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFbMJbRJAGhwiFEd39vt4hg Thanks For Watching Peace!!!

DMM Bitcoin, Japan's New Crypto Exchange, Coming in January

03:07
The Japanese internet giant, famous for its forex trading services, will offer seven cryptocurrencies for trading. DMM.com is to launch its own cryptocurrency exchange, DMM Bitcoin, according to a report in Bitcoin.com. The company said in a statement: “DMM Bitcoin will launch a new service site for virtual currency trading on January 10, 2018, and we plan to start accepting account opening applications on January 11.” Announcing details of the exchange, the Japanese internet service provider said that there will be seven cryptocurrencies supported – Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, Ripple, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, and Nem. Leverage will be 4x. The platform will run on your standard home operating systems, and deposits/withdrawals will be made in yen, Bitcoin and Ether. DMM.com is an internet services company, founded in 1999 and based in Tokyo. Online shopping and rental services are its core business, but it offers products ranging from solar panels to charity auctions. It even has a foreign exchange arm, DMM FX, which is among the largest in the world by trading volume. We reported on DMM in September when it established a virtual currency division and mining farm with the stated ambition of it becoming one of the ten largest in the world. This month, 16 exchanges applied to the Japanese Financial Services Agency for a licence under the new ‘Virtual Currency Act’. This law was passed in April 2017 and gave Bitcoin and Ethereum legal status as a means of payment. All but four of the requests were denied, but the market got a boost from the new law nonetheless because Japan is an influential economy, especially when it comes to electronic trading. For example, in October, roughly 42% of the world’s Bitcoin transactions were conducted in Japanese yen, according to the Nikkei Asian Review. GMO Click, a domestic competitor of DMM, announced its own cryptocurrency mining business a day before DMM did, and recently announced plans to begin paying its employees in Bitcoin.

If you like Princes of the Yen support our future documentaries on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/independentdocumentary or Liberapay: https://liberapay.com/IndependentPOV “Princes of the Yen: Central Banks and the Transformation of the Economy” 『円の支配者』reveals how Japanese society was transformed to suit the agenda and desire of powerful interest groups, and how citizens were kept entirely in the dark about this. Based on a book by Professor Richard Werner, a visiting researcher at the Bank of Japan during the 90s crash, during which the stock market dropped by 80% and house prices by up to 84%. The film uncovers the real cause of this extraordinary period in recent Japanese history. Making extensive use of archival footage and TV appearances of Richard Werner from the time, the viewer is guided to a new understanding of what makes the world tick. And discovers that what happened in Japan almost 25 years ago is again repeating itself in Europe. To understand how, why and by whom, watch this film. “Princes of the Yen” is an unprecedented challenge to today’s dominant ideological belief system, and the control levers that underpin it. Piece by piece, reality is deconstructed to reveal the world as it is, not as those in power would like us to believe that it is. “Because only power that is hidden is power that endures.” A film by Michael Oswald You can follow Richard Werner (Author of the Book) on Twitter at @ProfessorWerner Watch our new documentary The Spider's Web: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np_ylvc8Zj8 Translate this film: http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_video?ref=share&v=p5Ac7ap_MAY Help us spread the word: Rate this film on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4172710/ Rate it and comment on youtube.
