Inside Out and Emotional Health

Related article: Inside Out and Emotional Health http://thecreativemind.net/1885/inside-out-and-emotional-health/ The animated movie "Inside Out" tells the story of a young girl, Riley, who has to leave her Midwest life behind when her family moves to San Francisco. Characters depict her primary emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - and the inner conflicts they cause her, as well as her parents, who have their own inner conflicts to deal with. The movie was named "Best Animated Feature" at the 2016 Oscars. In her review for Counseling Today magazine, Erin Shifflett writes: "A person’s mind is a mysterious labyrinth of thoughts, feelings, memories, ideas and compulsions; the mind of a young girl is likely even more complex. "Disney-Pixar’s latest animated offering, Inside Out, bravely delves into that intricate world in a way that effectively captures the nuances of the way people feel and think—and maybe helps them understand why they act the way they do sometimes. "Developed with the guidance of University of California, Berkeley psychologist Dacher Keltner, the film tells the tale of Riley, an 11-year old whose family relocates from Minnesota to San Francisco. "Through the move, Riley loses her friends and beloved hockey team and is forced to transition to a place where pizza is served with broccoli as a topping and the cool girls in school wear eye shadow, much to Riley’s surprise." Shifflett describes the role of the "five emotions operating at Headquarters (Riley’s brain): Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear and Anger. ... "The importance of Sadness and, indeed, the other less pleasant emotions such as Fear, Disgust and Anger, is highlighted multiple times throughout the film when their roles and functions are explained." From Emotion, personified: What “Inside Out” gets right about mental health By Erin Shifflett June 25, 2015. Inside Out was named "Best Animated Feature" at the 2016 Academy Awards. Producers and director Pete Docter said in his acceptance speech: "This film was really born from watching our kids grow up, which is not easy! "Anyone out there who's in junior high, high school, working it out, suffering - there are days you're going to feel sad. You're going to feel angry. You're going to feel scared. That's nothing you can choose. "But you can make stuff. Make films. Draw. Write. It will make a world of difference." 7 Facts About Coffee You Probably Didn’t Know

06:48
How to drink coffee the right way and healthy? Why is coffee good for you? Here are 7 surprising reasons why you need to get yourself a cup of coffee right now. TIMESTAMPS Coffee boosts brainpower 0:40 Coffee increases blood pressure 1:46 Coffee makes your immune system stronger 2:24 Coffee relieves a headache 3:16 Coffee reduces stress 3:51 Coffee improves your memory 4:40 Coffee helps you lose weight 5:30 An amazing coffee cocktail recipe 6:06 SUMMARY - Coffee with sugar can turn you into a little genius for a while because the combination of caffeine and glucose activates certain sectors of your brain. The caffeine in coffee acts as a mild stimulant to the central nervous system. This neuronal activity triggers the release of the adrenaline, that will affect your body in several ways: your heartbeat increases, blood pressure rises, breathing tubes open up, sugar is released into the bloodstream for extra energy. - You might want to keep off the coffee if you are going to have a blood pressure test within the next 2 days. If you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor whether you should limit or stop drinking caffeinated beverages. - Coffee is known for its energy-boosting caffeine effect -- is an abundant source of nutrients and healthful chemicals that can aid your immune system. According to scientists from several countries, coffee reduces the risk of premature death. This is because coffee alters your immune system, making it stronger and healthier. - The caffeine can cure headaches and migraines. People are aware that caffeine is found in coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate, but may not know that caffeine is also contained in a variety of over the counter medications. That’s why it’s an ingredient in a lot of traditional pain relievers. - Coffee acts well as an anti-stress substance due to the release of dopamine and serotonin, which "trigger" a good mood. One cup, or even just the smell of coffee, can calm your nerves. This could explain a lower risk of depression among coffee drinkers. - Coffee can positively affect mood, enhance alertness, and memory abilities. The stimulators and neuro-mediators obtained from coffee not only boost your mood and productivity but also improve your memory. Of course, this only works with your short-term memory. - Coffee can keep off and help you lose excess weight. It can temporarily suppress your appetite and may stimulate minimal calorie burning. When the level of the hormone leptin is low, your body starts storing fat, and you gain weight. Coffee, however, increases the hormone levels in your body. BONUS If you're looking for something sweet to pair your milk, this cocktail recipe is a must. It is deliciously smooth and refreshing and, if bottled, ready to take on the go. • Make your favorite coffee. • Let it cool off, then fill an ice cube tray with the coffee. • Place it in the freezer. On a hot day, add the coffee cubes to a glass of milk. Sip a delicious mix and feel wonderful! Share the video with your friends to keep them caffeinated and hit the like button below the video! How the Modern World Makes Us Mentally Ill

05:50
It's easy to blame ourselves for not feeling 100% in our minds, but some of the causes of mental unwellness have to do with large systemic problems in our societies, among these, an emphasis on individualism, a manic faith in Romantic love and a cult of meritocracy. Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that the repeated stress of abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. This unfolds across a lifetime, to the point where those who’ve experienced high levels of trauma are at triple the risk for heart disease and lung cancer. Black Tea Provides Health Benefits When the Aroma is Inhaled In Addition to Drinking It

04:31
Drinking black tea has been known to boost heart health, decrease diabetes risk, fight cancer and lower stress, but did you know that inhaling its aroma can also provide health benefits? Research has found that inhaling the aroma of black tea may reduce stress levels before and after a mentally stressful event. In the study, which was published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology, the relieving effects of two kinds of black tea, Assam and Darjeeling, aromas on physical and psychological stress were evaluated. A team of researchers from Japan recruited 18 healthy people aged between 20 and 21 years to participate in the study. The research team instructed the participants to not consume anything except water for three hours before the start of every trial. Then, the team induced stress in the participants using a psycho-diagnostic test (Uchida-Kraepelin test) which involves mathematical problems to be solved within 30 minutes, split into two 15-minute sessions. In between sessions, the participants were tasked to inhale either black tea aroma or be exposed to warm water for one minute. After this, the research team used levels of salivary chromogranin-A (CgA), an acidic protein produced in response to stress, as a stress marker to identify the effect of inhaling black tea aroma in the participants. Based on the results, participants who inhaled black tea aroma exhibited lower salivary chromogranin-A concentration levels after 30 minutes of mentally stressful tasks, in comparison to those who were exposed only to warm water. In addition, both black teas caused similar effects, even though Darjeeling tea aroma has a higher concentration of anti-stress components, such as hexanal, hexanol, and linalool, compared to Assam black tea. Hexanal and hexanol have been previously reported to decrease mental stress response in mice, while linalool possesses sedative effects. The above results indicated that inhaling black tea aroma may diminish stress levels caused by arithmetic mental stress tasks, and Darjeeling tea aroma tended to improve the mood before mental stress load. Black tea may be the most common among the three main varieties of tea, including green and oolong. Although all teas come from the same plant, each variety is processed differently. The evergreen shoots of black tea are firstly picked, then withered, rolled, fermented, and dried. There have been numerous studies revealing black tea’s positive impact on heart health. A study published in 2017 looked at the effects of tea consumption on the risk of heart disease. Overall, the researchers conclude that drinking black tea “within a normal diet” leads to a decrease in major cardiovascular risk factors, and it also boosts antioxidant levels in humans. The caffeine content of black tea is responsible for enhancing mental focus and concentration. Drinking three cups of black tea each day every morning can increase one’s mental performance. Black tea also reduces cholesterol levels. Black tea contains compounds, which may improve cholesterol levels. To lower LDL cholesterol levels, consume two cups of black tea daily for three weeks. High-quality black tea in moderation can definitely be a healthy addition to your diet. When you do have a cup of black tea, try to make it a relaxing and rejuvenating time for yourself because that makes the black tea benefits even greater. Get Stressed Eat Repeat HD

01:05:33
Stress emotional and mindless eating play a heavy role in setting up and perpetuating unhealthy eating habits. Why? These may be tapping into the same reward-based learning processes that evolved to help us remember where food is -and in modern day are hijacked by both chemical and behavioral addictions (including eating). My lab has studied the addictive process, and how mindfulness targets key links in reward-based learning to help people change their relationships to their vices, including smoking and eating. In this seminar, I will unpack how addictive behavior is formed, how mindfulness specifically helps us change eating habits, and the research we are currently undertaking to study the efficacy and mechanism of digital therapeutic platforms for stress and emotional eating. Judson Brewer MD PhD is the Director of Research at the Center for Mindfulness and associate professor in medicine and psychiatry at UMass Medical School. He also is adjunct faculty at Yale University, and a research affiliate at MIT. A psychiatrist and internationally known expert in mindfulness training for addictions, Brewer has developed and tested novel mindfulness programs for addictions, including both in-person and app-based treatments (e.g. smoking, stress eating). He has also studied the underlying neural mechanisms of mindfulness using standard and real-time fMRI, and source-estimated EEG, and is currently translating these findings into clinical use. He has published numerous peer- reviewed articles and book chapters, presented to the US President’s Office of National Drug Control Policy, trained US Olympic coaches, been featured on 60 minutes, at TED, TEDMED, TEDx, in Time magazine (top 100 new health discoveries of 2013), Forbes, Businessweek, NPR and the BBC among others. He writes a blog for The Huffington Post. Some of them are things that we do automatically, without thinking, but they affect the health of our hair. Bright Side would like to share 20 simple but superb habits you can use to protect your hair and help it to grow healthy and strong. Your hair will be brighter and shinier from the first time you try this. - Try to wash your hair with raw egg yolks instead of shampoo. Although it may seem weird, this natural product moisturizes your hair better than many commercial beauty products. - Sulfate is one of the most harmful agents out there that strips your hair of its natural moisture. There are dozens of sulfate-free products on the market to help you care for and strengthen your hair. - Always braid your hair loosely before you go to sleep. It will give you beautiful waves in the morning, prevent your hair from tangling and breaking when you move in your sleep. - Massage your scalp every day with a wooden bristle brush to activate blood circulation and encourage hair growth. - Use sunscreens or special summer hair styling products that will protect your hair from chlorine and salt water. - Do not blow dry your hair too often. Let it air dry naturally. - Hair styling tools such as hot straighteners or curling irons can overheat and damage your hair. - Argan oil has a lot of beneficial effects on your hair. Use it for split ends and a dry scalp, or as a leave-in conditioner. - Do not brush your hair when it’s wet — it makes it weaker and susceptible to breaking. - If you want to make your hair healthier, it’s better to use a satin or silk pillowcase for your bed. - Keep in mind that nothing damages your hair more than stress. No matter how much you take care of yourself, if you do not reduce your stress levels, your hair will never be as beautiful as it could be. - Your hair is nourished by everything you eat. If you avoid protein, natural fats, and vitamins in your diet, your hair will be affected. - Healthy and shiny hair can be difficult to achieve if you don't take care of your hair. Nourish your hair regularly with natural or commercially-made masks rich in vitamins and oils. Overview of Hydrogen Therapy

05:27
Hydrogen is absolutely safe and is good for serious medical situations, health, longevity and even beauty and beautiful skin. https://drsircus.com/shop/ebooks/hydrogen-medicine/ http://hydrogenmedicine.info/ https://hydroproducts.info/ Join 60,000 others in my newsletter and get a free ebook and introductory articles that will guide you through my protocol and the medicinals that compose it. ! http://drsircus.com/ ** Transcription** Hydrogen medicine is an exciting new area of medicine. Something for medical treatments and for health, and beauty and sports. Hydrogen is actually offers salvation to the world in terms of energy, clean energy and very clean safe medicine, because in the world of energy the byproduct, the pollution is pure water and in the body it turns free radicals, the worst ones, which is basic cause of diseases also into water. Hydrogen is very new, it's only been around about 10 years starting in Japan and China in 2007 was an article in nature magazine and from there was like the gold rush. But we can go back 70 years or so and see how hydrogen was used in deep-sea diving, when divers went down 2,000 feet or 6,700 liters in yards, under the incredible stress of the pressure and the cold, divers could survive only by breathing hydrogen gas 96 percent hydrogen gas and only 4 percent oxygen. That tells us a lot about how can be used when the body is in a incredible stress, in emergency rooms and ambulances, intensive care, when we approach death. Oxygen doesn't have the healing power that hydrogen has, and two in combination is ideal. In the future I envision in hardcore medicine oxygen will never be given alone again, it should always be given with hydrogen. It has power to save lives and would be ideal for sepsis patients but going in the other hand, take a health person - hydrogen, like taken a hydrogen baths and now little machines that you can put in the bathtub and put hydrogen to the water. Hydrogen is great for the skin, so should eventually really catch on in the beauty business. Hydrogen because is so small gets everywhere, gets to the tip of your nose, to your retina in the eyes, to your toes, to everywhere. It's so small, it passes through every barrier into the cells and charge as a fuel, charges the mitochondria. Eating for instances is really a process of stripping hydrogen off of complex molecules. So, we have in the future, in China they have already cities where hydrogen drives the economy, we also have a hydrogen economy in our bodies. So, hydrogen is an excellent medicine. It can be inhaled which is ideal , in causes of emergency situations and for general health and anti-aging. Hydrogen water which is not quite strong as hydrogen gas but the two using in combination is ideal. They have machines now that spray hydrogen onto your skin, of course is good for burns and now hydrogen baths. So, as I said, is very exciting, it is probably the safest medicine. It's A medicine, that is exactly how it is been researched in Japan and China. Under the most of the studies for very severe diseases, so it helps out no matter what your situation is. If you are healthy it's going to be beatification and anti-aging. Why? Because it's constantly taking down oxidative stress and everything in the world today is increasing our oxidative stress, not only our internal stress from dealing of being alive, but the increasing radiation, heavy metals, chemicals. We are surrounded, we are walking living, breathing in a sea of toxicity, especially in cities. So, all these things suggest that hydrogen is a real answer for the 21st century, if one wants to live healthy, be more alive, stay alive longer, hydrogen is your answer.

Episode 4 • Earthing/Grounding... release stress naturally

07:23
Earthing is amazing on so many levels... mind and body. Something simple you can do everyday whether you are at the beach, at the park even in your backyard. Take advantage of nature and how it heals the body. While earthing, always be mindful of where you place your feet so you don't step into something or on something. Below are some articles and videos on both earthing and Qigong. Take your health into your own hands and find ways to heal your body from the root. Not saying not to see your doctor but take time to research and learn what your body needs also. Be part of your healthcare. Feeling stressed, depressed or anxious? Stop, kick off your shoes and go earthing. Let me know how you like it. Please try it once at least, no phone in hand, no kids or other distractions... just you and nature. Would love to hear your experience. Btw share the health, by sharing this video! We formulate our ambitions by admiring the beautiful structures of the architect tasked with designing the city’s new airport, or by following the intrepid trades of the wealthiest Wall Street fund manager, by reading the analyses of the acclaimed literary novelist or sampling the piquant meals in the restaurant of a prize-winning chef. We form our career plans on the basis of perfection. Then, inspired by the masters, we take our own first steps and trouble begins. What we have managed to design, or make in our first month of trading, or write in an early short story, or cook for the family is markedly and absurdly, beneath the standard that first sparked our ambitions. We who are so aware of excellence end up the least able to tolerate mediocrity – which in this case, happens to be our own...." Rule Out Risk for a Heart Attack: 1 MINUTE TEST

05:10
Take Dr. Berg's Advanced Evaluation Quiz: http://bit.ly/EvalQuiz Your report will then be sent via email analyzing 104 potential symptoms, giving you a much deeper insight into the cause-effect relationship of your body issues. It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg teaches you a simple test to rule out risk of a heart attack. Its all about your recovery after exercise. Those people who can recover fast have a lower risk of getting a heart attack. This stems from the system that controls recovery - autonomic nervous system, specifically - parasympathetics. This system is always in the background causing you to recover and bounce back. Assess your resting pulse rate, then peak pulse rate after 1 minute of exercise (70% of max.), then re-check your recovery pulse rate 1 minute later. Subtract the Peak pulse rate from the recovery pulse rate to get your number. Less than 12 beats recovery: Higher Risk 13-20: Moderate Risk 21-40: You're good 40+: Real fit PARASYMPATHETIC RESEARCH: http://www.ptonthenet.com/articles/ac... https://link.springer.com/article/10.... http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/... http://jim.bmj.com/content/52/6/394?t... Potassium has the ability to protect your kidneys, heart and arteries. We’re told that potassium might cause kidney damage, BUT that would only occur if you have chronic end-stage kidney failure which is very rare. There is a study about potassium protects against stroke where it allows cerebral arteries (arteries of the brain) to carry blood at high pressure without damage. Potassium has the ability to lower blood pressure and decrease the kidney risk of stones. Cause of Potassium Deficiencies 1. Low Potassium Diet 2. Laxatives 3. Diuretics – people take to lower blood pressure where in fact it depletes the potassium. 4. Cortisol – in the form of prednisone or high levels of cortisol from the adrenals or stress hormones. 5. Diabetes (IR) – with insulin resistance, you can’t absorb potassium that well. Symptoms of Potassium Deficiency • High blood pressure • Fatigue • Loss of stamina • Leg cramps • Constipation Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 53 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. 7 Healthy Secrets for Boosting Immunity

05:36
7 Healthy Secrets for Boosting Immunity 1. Butt Out This tip shows up a lot in health articles, and there’s a good reason for it. Not only is puffing away on tobacco linked to potentially fatal cancers and heart disease, it can also depress your immune system and leave you more vulnerable to other sicknesses, according to Livestrong.com. Continuing to puff away suppresses antibodies created by your body to fight invaders, leaving you at higher risk of ailments such as respiratory infections and even the common flu, noted the source. The good news here is that if you quit smoking, your body’s “soldier” cells will start returning in greater numbers. 2. Get Moving Exercise can make you feel better naturally by increasing endorphins, while also helping you shed excess fat. However, a side benefit of regular exercise is that exercise helps flush bacteria from your system, according to an article posted on the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It also notes that exercise “changes” antibodies and white blood cells in your body, causing them to move around your system faster and therefore detecting the early development of illnesses. The rise in body temperature from working out can also help kill off bacteria, added the article. 3. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables Thanks to vitamin-rich content, certain fruits and veggies can help protect you against common colds and other annoying ailments. Best Health magazine suggests four fruits in particular to help kick your immune system into high gear. Those fruits include kiwi, blueberries, papaya, and strawberries – and luckily, they’re all delicious. The best immune-boosting vegetables to consider include “cruciferous vegetables”, which include cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, and other leafy greens. If they don’t taste great to you, look for recipes to boost flavor. 4. Cut Back Alcohol Consumption We’re not saying you can’t have a glass of wine with dinner, but if you’re having a few more glasses after that every night, it’s time to reconsider. Not only is alcohol a prime way to pack on pounds (and being overweight is taxing on your immunity), binge drinking may suppress your body’s natural defenses, according to WebMD. The online health source cites a study that shows even one night of overdrinking can have a detrimental effect on your immunity. If you have the beginnings of a sickness, the alcohol can actually make it worse, noted the article. What is binge drinking? It’s defined as five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women in a 2-hour time frame. 5. Get More Sleep Not only will lack of sleep make you irritable, less effective at daily tasks and possibly into a coffee addict, it can make your immune system tired too, according to the Mayo Clinic. Proteins released during sleep called cytokines help promote rest, but also are important in fighting infections and reacting to stress, according to the source. The clinic also notes that not getting enough quality sleep can make you more susceptible to viruses such as a cold. When they say you should rest when you’re sick, listen to them; the clinic also states that lack of sleep can slow down recovery. 6. Consume Probiotics Harvard Medical School explains that while hundreds of types of bacteria live in your gut that aid digestion, there are newer findings that show these helpful gut bacteria have a link to immunity. There is evidence that certain gut flora can help develop T cells, a type of white blood cell that is integral to how your system responds to bacterial and viral threats. While it’s not fully understood how this interaction between the gut and immunity works, consuming probiotics – as in, good bacteria – can have a positive impact. Look to yogurt, some cereals and certain energy bars. 7. Take a Vacation If you’re under a lot of stress at work or home, then it might be time to lessen the load and book a trip to the beach. Stress has all kinds of negative effects on you, and your immune system isn’t… well, immune to it either. A posting by the American Psychological Association has a very black and white headline of “Stress Weakens the Immune System”. These findings have apparently been known for some time, as the article mentions studies that began in the 1980’s showing that students taking exams in school over a 3-day period actually had lowered immunity counts. How to Process Your Emotions

03:25
In order to be calm and at ease with ourselves, we need regular periods where we do something rather strange-sounding: process our emotions. Here is a guide to this essential psychological move. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/GTunD2 Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ https://goo.gl/qMLe4B FURTHER READING “It is a quirk of our minds that not every emotion we carry is fully acknowledged, understood or even truly felt. There are feelings that exist in an ‘unprocessed’ form within us. A great many worries may, for example, remain disavowed and uninterpreted and manifest themselves as powerful directionless anxiety. Under their sway, we may feel a compulsive need to remain busy, fear spending any time on our own or cling to activities that ensure we don’t meet what scares us head on (these might include internet pornography, tracking the news or exercising compulsively). A similar kind of disavowal can go on around hurt. Someone may have abused our trust, made us doubt their kindness or violated our self-esteem but we are driven to flee a frank recognition of an appalling degree of exposure and vulnerability. The hurt is somewhere inside, but on the surface, we adopt a brittle good cheer (jolliness being sadness that doesn’t know itself), we numb ourselves chemically or else adopt a carefully non-specific tone of cynicism, which masks the specific wound that has been inflicted on us…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/FxY6e6 MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/jWiJE7 Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Vale Productions http://www.valeproductions.co.uk/ #TheSchoolOfLife
