Inside Out and Emotional Health

02:33
Related article: Inside Out and Emotional Health http://thecreativemind.net/1885/inside-out-and-emotional-health/ The animated movie "Inside Out" tells the story of a young girl, Riley, who has to leave her Midwest life behind when her family moves to San Francisco. Characters depict her primary emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - and the inner conflicts they cause her, as well as her parents, who have their own inner conflicts to deal with. The movie was named "Best Animated Feature" at the 2016 Oscars. In her review for Counseling Today magazine, Erin Shifflett writes: "A person’s mind is a mysterious labyrinth of thoughts, feelings, memories, ideas and compulsions; the mind of a young girl is likely even more complex. "Disney-Pixar’s latest animated offering, Inside Out, bravely delves into that intricate world in a way that effectively captures the nuances of the way people feel and think—and maybe helps them understand why they act the way they do sometimes. "Developed with the guidance of University of California, Berkeley psychologist Dacher Keltner, the film tells the tale of Riley, an 11-year old whose family relocates from Minnesota to San Francisco. "Through the move, Riley loses her friends and beloved hockey team and is forced to transition to a place where pizza is served with broccoli as a topping and the cool girls in school wear eye shadow, much to Riley’s surprise." Shifflett describes the role of the "five emotions operating at Headquarters (Riley’s brain): Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear and Anger. ... "The importance of Sadness and, indeed, the other less pleasant emotions such as Fear, Disgust and Anger, is highlighted multiple times throughout the film when their roles and functions are explained." From Emotion, personified: What “Inside Out” gets right about mental health By Erin Shifflett June 25, 2015. Inside Out was named "Best Animated Feature" at the 2016 Academy Awards. Producers and director Pete Docter said in his acceptance speech: "This film was really born from watching our kids grow up, which is not easy! "Anyone out there who's in junior high, high school, working it out, suffering - there are days you're going to feel sad. You're going to feel angry. You're going to feel scared. That's nothing you can choose. "But you can make stuff. Make films. Draw. Write. It will make a world of difference." Intermittent Fasting For Mental Clarity and Sharpness

One key part is called hippocampus, its Greek word means “Sea Horse” because of how it looks. It is intimately involved in learning, memory and spatial navigation. Spatial Navigation is the ability to locate yourself in the environment. Improved Hippocampus Benefits: • Ability to Learn • Increase the Synapses – Regrow Nerve Cells • Slows Aging • Improves Memory • Improves Emotional State • Improves Spatial Navigation What Causes Damage to the Hippocampus: • Stress – High Levels of Cortisol • Vitamin B1 Deficiencies (Memory loss is one of the side effects) • High levels of sugar and insulin High Levels of Cortisol and High Levels of Sugar/ Insulin can deplete vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is vital in allowing the hippocampus to work correctly. Nutritional Yeast is the best source of vitamin B1. How to Improve Hippocampus: 1. Nutritional Yeast 2. Aerobic Exercise 3. Long walks 4. Getting a lot of oxygen 5. Low stress Intermittent Fasting: • Start with 3 meals a day and No snacks • Snacking completely destroys the benefits of Intermittent Fasting • Add Fat to the Meal • Overtime, gradually knock out your breakfast • Don’t eat if you are not hungry • 2 Meals a Day: Gradually shrink the distance between the 2 meals from 8 hours to 4. Hey Guys! Today we are going to talk about Intermittent Fasting and how to improve mental clarity and your mental sharpness. Now there are some really cool research with doing intermittent fasting and improving certain parts of the brain. I am going to put some links down below. One key part is something called the hippocampus, you have two of them in the left and right side of your brain. The Greek word of hippocampus means "sea horse" because it looks like a sea horse. But it is intimately involved with learning, memory and spatial navigation. What is that mean? It means your ability to locate yourself in your environment. It sort of like a GPS so to speak. People with dementia from alzheimer's have very difficult time finding out where they are in a certain environment. They kind of get lost in the parking lot, its kind of like they have loss their GPS. So by improving your hippocampus, you can increase your ability to learn, you can actually increase the synapses in your brain and you can actually regrow your nerve cells, you can slow down the aging process, you can improve your memory and you can sometimes improve your emotional state because hippocampus is sometimes similar to relay switch with different emotions and definitely improve your ability to find yourself in your environment. Now it is interesting that in animal studies, if you damage the hippocampus, that animal could become hyperactive and they have difficulty in learning. Sound familiar with kids, right? The question is what causes damage to this part of your brain. Stress, high levels of cortisol. 7 Facts About Coffee You Probably Didn’t Know

06:48
How to drink coffee the right way and healthy? Why is coffee good for you? Here are 7 surprising reasons why you need to get yourself a cup of coffee right now. TIMESTAMPS Coffee boosts brainpower 0:40 Coffee increases blood pressure 1:46 Coffee makes your immune system stronger 2:24 Coffee relieves a headache 3:16 Coffee reduces stress 3:51 Coffee improves your memory 4:40 Coffee helps you lose weight 5:30 An amazing coffee cocktail recipe 6:06 SUMMARY - Coffee with sugar can turn you into a little genius for a while because the combination of caffeine and glucose activates certain sectors of your brain. The caffeine in coffee acts as a mild stimulant to the central nervous system. This neuronal activity triggers the release of the adrenaline, that will affect your body in several ways: your heartbeat increases, blood pressure rises, breathing tubes open up, sugar is released into the bloodstream for extra energy. - You might want to keep off the coffee if you are going to have a blood pressure test within the next 2 days. If you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor whether you should limit or stop drinking caffeinated beverages. - Coffee is known for its energy-boosting caffeine effect -- is an abundant source of nutrients and healthful chemicals that can aid your immune system. According to scientists from several countries, coffee reduces the risk of premature death. This is because coffee alters your immune system, making it stronger and healthier. - The caffeine can cure headaches and migraines. People are aware that caffeine is found in coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate, but may not know that caffeine is also contained in a variety of over the counter medications. That’s why it’s an ingredient in a lot of traditional pain relievers. - Coffee acts well as an anti-stress substance due to the release of dopamine and serotonin, which "trigger" a good mood. One cup, or even just the smell of coffee, can calm your nerves. This could explain a lower risk of depression among coffee drinkers. - Coffee can positively affect mood, enhance alertness, and memory abilities. The stimulators and neuro-mediators obtained from coffee not only boost your mood and productivity but also improve your memory. Of course, this only works with your short-term memory. - Coffee can keep off and help you lose excess weight. It can temporarily suppress your appetite and may stimulate minimal calorie burning. When the level of the hormone leptin is low, your body starts storing fat, and you gain weight. Coffee, however, increases the hormone levels in your body. BONUS If you're looking for something sweet to pair your milk, this cocktail recipe is a must. It is deliciously smooth and refreshing and, if bottled, ready to take on the go. • Make your favorite coffee. • Let it cool off, then fill an ice cube tray with the coffee. • Place it in the freezer. On a hot day, add the coffee cubes to a glass of milk. Sip a delicious mix and feel wonderful! Share the video with your friends to keep them caffeinated and hit the like button below the video! Rule Out Risk for a Heart Attack: 1 MINUTE TEST

05:10
Take Dr. Berg's Advanced Evaluation Quiz: http://bit.ly/EvalQuiz Your report will then be sent via email analyzing 104 potential symptoms, giving you a much deeper insight into the cause-effect relationship of your body issues. It's free and very enlightening. Dr. Berg teaches you a simple test to rule out risk of a heart attack. Its all about your recovery after exercise. Those people who can recover fast have a lower risk of getting a heart attack. This stems from the system that controls recovery - autonomic nervous system, specifically - parasympathetics. This system is always in the background causing you to recover and bounce back. Assess your resting pulse rate, then peak pulse rate after 1 minute of exercise (70% of max.), then re-check your recovery pulse rate 1 minute later. Subtract the Peak pulse rate from the recovery pulse rate to get your number. Less than 12 beats recovery: Higher Risk 13-20: Moderate Risk 21-40: You're good 40+: Real fit PARASYMPATHETIC RESEARCH: http://www.ptonthenet.com/articles/ac... https://link.springer.com/article/10.... http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/... http://jim.bmj.com/content/52/6/394?t... How to Keep Viruses in Remission

Virus couldn’t be killed because it isn’t alive in the first place, it is a piece of genetic material wrapped into a sac and could live off in the body’s energy. The key is to keep the resistance high, immune system in check and if you are susceptible to virus it will start to affect the bodies – It has to do with the immune system. The most important part of the body that will keep viruses in remission is the adrenal glands, it adapt to the stress states. Being under stress, the body will be more open to viruses. Virus Triggers: • Stress • Poor Nutrition – especially in trace minerals like low in zinc or selenium. • Radiation • High Sugar Diet Anti-viral nutrients: • Vitamin C – the most powerful antiviral (Sauerkraut, Bell Peppers, Leafy Greens) • Vitamin A – cod liver oil • Vitamin D – good to keep viruses in check • Calcium – Calcium Lactate Hello. In this video we're gonna talk about how to keep your viruses in remission. The first thing you need to know is that viruses are not alive. They're piece of genetic material wrapped in a sac and they're actually dormant and they're waiting until your resistance is low, you're sick, tired and getting older. And then they come out and they invade your cells, hijack the copy machine and start reproducing themselves so it can then spread and destroy different parts of your body. So your own immune system then has to work harder to then counter that attack and that's why sometimes it takes seven to ten days or even longer sometimes to dismantle these virus infections because antibiotics don't work for viruses. Viruses are like everywhere in the environment. Now even in the sea, per liter of the sea water you have over a hundred billion viruses and they are there to help break down bacteria and keep the overgrowth of bacteria from coming to large and so they break down this bacteria and other microorganisms down to the very very small carbon atoms so they kind of help balance the excess of certain microorganism. Now the thing I want to tell you about viruses is that they can't really harm you unless your cells let them harm you. In other words you have to be susceptible to the virus. There has to be some weak barrier or weak membrane and that comes mainly from stress or poor nutrition or even radiation and there's other things that can trigger viruses. But stress is the big one. Most infections, what happens just before the person gets the infection or shall I say allows the virus to invade the body because the virus is already there, is the stress. Stress activated like herpes or shingles pain. So many different viral infections occur right after stress events. Black Tea Provides Health Benefits When the Aroma is Inhaled In Addition to Drinking It

04:31
Drinking black tea has been known to boost heart health, decrease diabetes risk, fight cancer and lower stress, but did you know that inhaling its aroma can also provide health benefits? Research has found that inhaling the aroma of black tea may reduce stress levels before and after a mentally stressful event. In the study, which was published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology, the relieving effects of two kinds of black tea, Assam and Darjeeling, aromas on physical and psychological stress were evaluated. A team of researchers from Japan recruited 18 healthy people aged between 20 and 21 years to participate in the study. The research team instructed the participants to not consume anything except water for three hours before the start of every trial. Then, the team induced stress in the participants using a psycho-diagnostic test (Uchida-Kraepelin test) which involves mathematical problems to be solved within 30 minutes, split into two 15-minute sessions. In between sessions, the participants were tasked to inhale either black tea aroma or be exposed to warm water for one minute. After this, the research team used levels of salivary chromogranin-A (CgA), an acidic protein produced in response to stress, as a stress marker to identify the effect of inhaling black tea aroma in the participants. Based on the results, participants who inhaled black tea aroma exhibited lower salivary chromogranin-A concentration levels after 30 minutes of mentally stressful tasks, in comparison to those who were exposed only to warm water. In addition, both black teas caused similar effects, even though Darjeeling tea aroma has a higher concentration of anti-stress components, such as hexanal, hexanol, and linalool, compared to Assam black tea. Hexanal and hexanol have been previously reported to decrease mental stress response in mice, while linalool possesses sedative effects. The above results indicated that inhaling black tea aroma may diminish stress levels caused by arithmetic mental stress tasks, and Darjeeling tea aroma tended to improve the mood before mental stress load. Black tea may be the most common among the three main varieties of tea, including green and oolong. Although all teas come from the same plant, each variety is processed differently. The evergreen shoots of black tea are firstly picked, then withered, rolled, fermented, and dried. There have been numerous studies revealing black tea’s positive impact on heart health. A study published in 2017 looked at the effects of tea consumption on the risk of heart disease. Overall, the researchers conclude that drinking black tea “within a normal diet” leads to a decrease in major cardiovascular risk factors, and it also boosts antioxidant levels in humans. The caffeine content of black tea is responsible for enhancing mental focus and concentration. Drinking three cups of black tea each day every morning can increase one’s mental performance. Black tea also reduces cholesterol levels. Black tea contains compounds, which may improve cholesterol levels. To lower LDL cholesterol levels, consume two cups of black tea daily for three weeks. High-quality black tea in moderation can definitely be a healthy addition to your diet. When you do have a cup of black tea, try to make it a relaxing and rejuvenating time for yourself because that makes the black tea benefits even greater. 7 Healthy Secrets for Boosting Immunity

05:36
7 Healthy Secrets for Boosting Immunity 1. Butt Out This tip shows up a lot in health articles, and there’s a good reason for it. Not only is puffing away on tobacco linked to potentially fatal cancers and heart disease, it can also depress your immune system and leave you more vulnerable to other sicknesses, according to Livestrong.com. Continuing to puff away suppresses antibodies created by your body to fight invaders, leaving you at higher risk of ailments such as respiratory infections and even the common flu, noted the source. The good news here is that if you quit smoking, your body’s “soldier” cells will start returning in greater numbers. 2. Get Moving Exercise can make you feel better naturally by increasing endorphins, while also helping you shed excess fat. However, a side benefit of regular exercise is that exercise helps flush bacteria from your system, according to an article posted on the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It also notes that exercise “changes” antibodies and white blood cells in your body, causing them to move around your system faster and therefore detecting the early development of illnesses. The rise in body temperature from working out can also help kill off bacteria, added the article. 3. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables Thanks to vitamin-rich content, certain fruits and veggies can help protect you against common colds and other annoying ailments. Best Health magazine suggests four fruits in particular to help kick your immune system into high gear. Those fruits include kiwi, blueberries, papaya, and strawberries – and luckily, they’re all delicious. The best immune-boosting vegetables to consider include “cruciferous vegetables”, which include cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, and other leafy greens. If they don’t taste great to you, look for recipes to boost flavor. 4. Cut Back Alcohol Consumption We’re not saying you can’t have a glass of wine with dinner, but if you’re having a few more glasses after that every night, it’s time to reconsider. Not only is alcohol a prime way to pack on pounds (and being overweight is taxing on your immunity), binge drinking may suppress your body’s natural defenses, according to WebMD. The online health source cites a study that shows even one night of overdrinking can have a detrimental effect on your immunity. If you have the beginnings of a sickness, the alcohol can actually make it worse, noted the article. What is binge drinking? It’s defined as five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women in a 2-hour time frame. 5. Get More Sleep Not only will lack of sleep make you irritable, less effective at daily tasks and possibly into a coffee addict, it can make your immune system tired too, according to the Mayo Clinic. Proteins released during sleep called cytokines help promote rest, but also are important in fighting infections and reacting to stress, according to the source. The clinic also notes that not getting enough quality sleep can make you more susceptible to viruses such as a cold. When they say you should rest when you’re sick, listen to them; the clinic also states that lack of sleep can slow down recovery. 6. Consume Probiotics Harvard Medical School explains that while hundreds of types of bacteria live in your gut that aid digestion, there are newer findings that show these helpful gut bacteria have a link to immunity. There is evidence that certain gut flora can help develop T cells, a type of white blood cell that is integral to how your system responds to bacterial and viral threats. While it’s not fully understood how this interaction between the gut and immunity works, consuming probiotics – as in, good bacteria – can have a positive impact. Look to yogurt, some cereals and certain energy bars. 7. Take a Vacation If you’re under a lot of stress at work or home, then it might be time to lessen the load and book a trip to the beach. Stress has all kinds of negative effects on you, and your immune system isn’t… well, immune to it either. A posting by the American Psychological Association has a very black and white headline of “Stress Weakens the Immune System”. These findings have apparently been known for some time, as the article mentions studies that began in the 1980’s showing that students taking exams in school over a 3-day period actually had lowered immunity counts. In the area of life science and health science research, Québec is very well positioned and has a long history. Mark Wainberg’s research projects (McGill University) on 3TC against HIV-AIDS. Working with his team, he worked on the development of 3TC, which is now the most-prescribed anti-AIDS medication in the world. Tritherapy plays a decisive role in the survival of tens of thousands of people with AIDS around the world. http://www.ladydavis.ca/en/markwainberg There are research teams in Quebec in all fields, not just biomedicine, that are of world-class calibre. International impact of Jean-Pierre Després’ research (Université Laval) on metabolic syndrome (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease). Recognized and cited by the World Health Organization, his work showed that abdominal obesity is a risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Thanks to Jean-Pierre Després, waist measurement is now a routine medical practice recognized worldwide. Jean-Pierre Després is Director of Research in Cardiology, Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec. In 2011, Jean-Pierre Després was the researcher who published the most scientific articles in the field of metabolic syndrome, ahead of more than 110,000 other researchers. http://iucpq.qc.ca/fr/recherche www.myhealthywaist.org Quebec life science researchers perform very well in Canada. In the area of research into aging and neuroscience, Quebec researchers receive between 35% and 38% of Canadian grants, even though we’re only 23% or 24% of the Canadian population. The impacts of Sonia Lupien’s research (Université de Montréal) on stress management. Sonia Lupien is Scientific Director of the Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal Research Center (www.iusmm.ca), and Director of the Centre for Studies on Human Stress (www.stresshumain.ca). www.sonialupien.com As a top mental health specialist, her research helps us better understand the effects of stress on our lives, particularly on our memory. Named one of the Top 10 Canadians Who Make a Difference by MacLean’s magazine in 2003, Dr. Lupien made a real difference by developing stress-reducing programs for people of all ages, but also by overseeing development of mobile apps for reducing and managing stress. This video presents two mobile applications: iSMART RÉADAPPS Interdisciplinarity and intersectoriality will now be part of the way we train researchers and the way we do research. It will allow us to attack much more complex problems. The research projects of David Fortin, neurosurgeon and neuro-oncologist (Université de Sherbrooke). Along with his team, he works intensively to find solutions to beat brain cancer. Dr. Fortin and his mathematician and physicist colleagues have developed a new cutting-edge imaging approach that allows them to remove a larger portion of tumours while maintaining patients’ brain function. http://cr.chus.qc.ca/axes/imagerie-medicale/chercheurs/david-fortin-m-d/ Renaldo Battista, Scientific Director, Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) Rémi Quirion, Québec Chief Scientist Officer Yanick Villedieu, Science Journalist and Radio Host, Les années lumière, Ici Radio-Canada Première www.frqs50ans.com www.frqs.gouv.qc.ca Recording dates: July 23, August 1, 4 and 5, 2014

8 Gross Habits That Are Actually Good For You

10:39
There are some pretty gross habits we all have and can’t get rid of no matter how hard we try. Maybe those terrible habits aren’t that bad for you after all, and you don’t have to do everything possible to get rid of them? It turns out some disgusting things you probably do every day that are actually good for you! Glamour magazine surveyed 1,000 women and asked them different questions, including whether or not they pee in the shower. Nearly 75% of the poll-takers confessed to having done it at least once in their life. It turns out no matter how gross it sound, it’s actually good for you. When we work out, we tend to breathe through our mouth, and this causes it to produce more saliva that interferes with normal breathing. So it’s perfectly fine to get rid of the excess mucus produced from exercising by spitting it out. Chewing gum helps you focus, sharpens your memory, reduces stress, and balances your hormones by raising your cortisol levels. If you usually try to hold your farts in, you might wanna stop doing that. Holding the gas in can easily cause abdominal pain and bloating. Biting your nails helps your body register the bacteria you get off your nails in its memory bank, so if you encounter a certain strand again, you’ll already have the lymphocytes capable of beating it. As you’re picking your nose and eating your boogies, you trigger your immune system to release white blood cells in order to defend itself against a certain type of bacteria. And there you go, your system comes out way stronger. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Peeing in the shower 0:41 Spitting 1:35 Chewing gum 2:41 Farting 3:40 Burping 4:52 Biting your nails 6:01 Picking your nose and eating your boogers 7:05 Skipping showers 8:29 Disclaimer 9:36 SUMMARY -The uric acid and ammonia in your pee can help prevent fungal growth around your toes. -Spitting can help you breathe more easily as you’re working out and breathing through the mouth. -Chewing gum helps you study and is good for test-taking, even better than caffeine. -Your digestive tract starts producing carbon dioxide and methane about 6 hours after eating, and farting helps your body get rid of these gasses. -Burping is actually good for your stomach since it helps relieve all that gaseous pressure inside. -Biting your nails causes your immune system to start producing white blood cells that help fight bacteria you get off your nails. -Eating boogers may actually help boost your immune system since they contain salivary mucins that can fight cavity-causing bacteria. -If you shower every single day, you wash away your body’s natural oils, leaving it unprotected and dry. -Everything here should be in moderation and only if you feel comfortable about it.
