The Benefits of Having Med Pay or Medical Payments Coverage on your Insurance Policy

01:09
Fredericksburg, VA personal injury attorney Kathleen Smith explains how having medical expense coverage can be of great benefit to individuals, their families, and anyone else in the vehicle at the time of the accident whether they have health insurance or not. Transcript- My name is Kathleen Smith, and I’m a trial attorney at the law firm of Allen and Allen. What is medical expense coverage and why should you have it? Medical expense coverage, sometimes referred to as med pay, is an optional coverage available for you on your automobile insurance policy. It protects you in case you don’t have health insurance, but you’re injured in an accident, whether it’s your fault or not. It will not only cover you, it’ll cover anyone in your family, and anyone who happens to be in your vehicle at the time of the collision. Medical expense coverage is important for those people that don’t have any health insurance, but it also could help you if you do have health insurance because it will go towards the co-pays, the co-insurance, or deductible. You might be surprised that medical expense coverage is actually very reasonable, and if you have more than one vehicle on the policy, and you carry that coverage for each vehicle… you can stack the coverage and actually get more for your money. For more information on this topic, please visit our website. http://www.allenandallen.com/blog/should-you-carry-medical-expense-coverage-on-your-policy.html
What Are Medical Payment Benefits In Your Auto Policy?

02:06
A good auto insurance should have medical payments coverage which will pay medical expenses up to a set limit without regard to who was at fault. I recommend pricing the maximum amount, but at least $5000. This coverage can make sure your passengers receive prompt medical care whether the other driver is a fault or not.

What is med pay coverage on a car insurance policy?

01:30
http://www.MurrayGRP.com - #13 - Medical payments or med pay coverage on the auto insurance policy is a regardless of fault coverage that pays for medical or funeral expense after a car accident. In New York State med pay is an important coverage because the mandatory PIP or personal injury protection coverage also known as no fault coverage does not respond in the event that drugs or alcohol are involved in the accident. Only med pay responds. It is important to always consult a professional insurance agent about your specific insurance needs. How to pay medical bills after an accident

08:13
How to pay medical bills after an accident If you were injured in a car accident, you may be getting medical bills in the mail. You’re probably wondering how to pay medical bills after an accident. Car crash victims are often surprised to know that in most cases, the insurance for the driver of the car who hit will not pay your bills until your case settles. Check out this video to find out how to pay your bills so they don’t go to collections and affect your credit. Hi, Barry Zlotowicz with the LawFull channel. I am a Chicago personal injury lawyer. First, I want to point out a common misperception people have. The auto insurance for the driver of the vehicle that hit you will NOT pay for your medical bills until your case settles. Now this does not apply in all states especially no-fault states. But this is the general rule in most states in this country. Here are a few of the ways you can get your bills paid: First, no fault insurance: if you live in a state with no fault insurance, you can get some or all of your medical bills paid regardless of fault. I put a link below to the states that have no-fault insurance. The second way is by using your MedPay Insurance. Medpay or medical payments coverage, is a clause within many auto insurance policies. It is optional coverage in my state of Illinois so not everyone has it. You will usually contract with your auto insurance company for them to pay the first $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 of your medical bills, regardless of fault. I’ve read a lot online that people don’t recommend purchasing medpay. I disagree completely. For the few dollars a month medpay costs, it is a valuable thing to have if you get in an accident. Many people cannot afford to pay their deductible or co-pays which are so high these days. Medpay can cover that for you. If you don’t have health insurance at all, medpay is an option for getting your medical bills paid, again, regardless of fault. Finally, unlike health insurance which might pay 80% of a medical bill leaving you with the balance, medpay will pay 100% of the bill. The second way to pay your medical bills is by using your health insurance: I always tell my clients when they get any kind of medical treatment, tell your medical provider to bill your health insurance. There are many advantages to using your health insurance to pay your medical bills, the main one being is that your health insurance company such as Aetna or Blue Cross Blue Shield, will likely have contracted rates with your medical provider. As such, Aetna will only have to pay their contracted rate for a bill rather than the whole rate. A couple things about using your health insurance. your health insurance company is probably going to want to be reimbursed for the money they put out on your behalf. But you will only have to reimburse them what they paid rather than the whole bill. You’re not totally off the hook. If you use your health insurance you may still have co-pays and a deductible to pay. Still, using your health insurance to pay your medical bills after an accident is the best way to keep your medical costs down and get your bills paid. Another way to pay your medical bills is by using a medical lien. Liens provide an interesting wrinkle to the issue of who pays the medical bills after an auto accident. A lien in this context basically means that your medical provider will hold off billing you for their services until after you recover for your damages. Hospitals often file liens shortly after treating a patient so that they are assured of getting reimbursed for their services. Once they get paid by the health insurance company they will release their lien. Other providers may voluntarily enter into a lien agreement with you such as a chiropractor or physical therapist. Another option for paying your medical bills is to pay them up front with cash. This is seldom used of course, but it is an option to ensure your bills get paid. You will get reimbursed for your expense when your case resolves but since you don’t have a contract with the provider like your health insurance does, you won’t get a discounted rate. Although you can try to negotiate with your provider. Finally you can use auto insurance to pay for your bills. First, the insurance for the party that caused your injuries will ultimately pay for your medical expenses through your settlement or verdict. But as I said before they won’t pay for the bills up front. One thing to know is that when you settle with the insurance company, whether it’s the defendant’s insurance company or if you use your uninsured motorist coverage, the money you get offered includes your medical bills. Thanks for checking out this video. Please subscribe to my channel and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or comments. If I can’t help you, I’ll find someone who can. You probably don’t treat injured auto accident patients just for the money, but getting paid certainly is important. Increasingly, automobile insurance providers are making it difficult for medical care providers to get their bills paid. One way to ensure that you are among the doctors getting paid out of a trial court award or settlement is by filing a medical lien early. There is no automatic “medical provider lien” that will ensure that doctors, hospitals, and therapists will get paid after a plaintiff receives a no-fault award. It doesn’t happen often, but it is possible that an injured party could take their settlement and leave you trying to collect their fees. About David Christensen LISTENING. PROTECTING. Basic Automotive Insurance Coverage Explained

05:02
While everyone that drives in this country has to have some form of auto insurance by law, many do not understand the basics of their policies. While we don't all have to be auto insurance experts, it is important to at least comprehend the major bricks that build our auto insurance policies. Collision Coverage. This covers loss to your own auto caused by its collision with another vehicle or object. If you cause an accident, collision coverage will pay to repair your vehicle, and is normally the most expensive part of an auto insurance policy. You must choose a deductible, which is the amount you, the insured, must pay before the insurance company pays the remainder of each covered loss. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium costs. However, keep in mind that this is the amount you must pay (generally to the repair shop) if your vehicle is damaged, so deciding on your deductible, which directly affects your premium, can be a bit of a balancing act. Comprehensive Coverage. This covers damage to your vehicle caused by an event other than a collision or overturn. Examples include fire, theft, vandalism, and falling objects. This also comes with a deductible you select, which is how much you will pay before the insurance company pays the remainder. Liability. The official definition of liability from the InsWeb glossary is: "That portion of the insurance contract which pays and renders service on behalf of an insured for a covered loss arising out of the insured's responsibility to others imposed by law or assumed by contract." In simpler terms, if you are at fault in an accident, liability insurance will pay to cover injuries and property damage costs caused to others in the accident (including your legal defense costs, if applicable). Bodily injury coverage pays for things like medical costs and lost salary to others; while property damage pays for repairs to other people's property you damaged in the accident (other than your own car). Liability coverage (which is the state mandated part of your policy) is the basic building block of any auto policy, and minimum liability limits vary from state to state. Below are some common extra coverage items that are available to you: Medical Payments This pays you and your passengers for medical and funeral expenses incurred in an auto accident, regardless of fault. It will also cover injuries sustained by you while you're operating someone else's car (with their permission), in addition to injuries you or your family members incur when you are pedestrians. Personal Injury Protection This is the name usually given to no-fault benefits in states that have enacted mandatory or optional no-fault auto insurance laws. Personal Injury Protection (PIP) usually includes benefits for medical expenses, loss of income from work, essential services, accidental death, funeral expenses, and survivor benefits. No-Fault Insurance Many states have enacted auto accident compensation laws permitting auto accident victims to collect directly from their own insurance companies for medical and hospital expenses regardless of who was at fault in the accident. Although there are many legal variations of no-fault insurance, most states still allow people to sue the negligent party if the amount of damages exceeds a certain state-determined threshold. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage: Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury (UMBI) covers you for all sums (up to your policy limits) if an accident occurs with an uninsured or hit-and-run motorist who is determined to be legally at fault. Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury covers you for all sums (up to your policy limits) if an accident occurs with a motorist who is underinsured (i.e., they carry bodily injury limits less than your UMBI limits and less than the amount of the injuries). Uninsured Motorists Property Damage Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD) Liability coverage pays for property damages caused by uninsured drivers. There are also other extra items, such as rental reimbursement and towing and labor charges in case of a breakdown. As mentioned above, please visit the Insweb Auto Insurance Glossary for further definitions. Remember to keep yourself adequately covered; while having the bare minimums required by each state may keep you in compliance with state laws, they may not be enough to protect your assets if you have a major incident. Insurance experts recommend that you review your insurance policy often and thoroughly.

Medical Payments Coverage

Medical payments coverage, or "Med Pay" is another form of first party personal injury protection somewhat like PIP. Unlike PIP, the liability insurer gets a credit for your med pay reimbursement. In addition, med pay does not cover things such as lost wages. What to Do When Car Insurance Company Refuses to Pay

17:23
A Simple Explanation of What to do when a Car Insurance Company Refuses to Pay. This video will teach you why insurance companies only respond to profit-loss. http://MattLaw.com - Matt Powell, Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer The most important thing to know is the only thing that motivates insurance companies is profit. So, the only way to elicit a response from your car insurance company is via threats of profit loss. Most people believe that insurance companies are motivated by altruistic goals and always want to do the right thing for their insureds and society. Unfortunately, that line of thinking could not be farther from the truth. Your car insurance company is not looking to do the right thing for you, your family, or our country. When your car insurance company refuses to pay, it's because it's the right thing to do for their bottom line (profits.) When a car insurance company refuses to pay, the only thing you can do to motivate them to pay the full value of your claim is to threaten them with a lawsuit. Here is the car insurance company mantra: DENY the Claim DELAY the Claim DEFEND the Claim I call the insurance company mantra "The 3 D's." First, your car insurance company will refuse to pay your claim by denying any responsibility for you and your families losses. Second, your car insurance company will refuse to pay your claim by delaying the process. They will do things like sending you on a wild goose chase for paperwork they don't actually need. Insurance companies are motivated to delay claims because they accrue interest on the money they don't pay you over time. Third, your car insurance company will refuse to pay you by defending the claim when you file a lawsuit. They will defend the claim using their own in-house lawyers or private law firms so they can hold onto your money as long as possible. If your car insurance company refuses to pay the full value of your claim, you need to hire a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer immediately and file a lawsuit. Car insurance companies place different values on claims depending on which lawyer you hire. So, you need to hire a lawyer with a track record of taking claims all the way to trial where a jury can determine the value of your claim. If you have any more questions about what to do when a car insurance company refuses to pay, please feel free to call me, Matt Powell, at 1-844-MATTLAW. 00:55
Most car insurance policies have a medical payments provision. This is essentially a health insurance policy on your automobile which will pay your medical bills up to the policy limits of the coverage without any deductibles or co-pays. This coverage applies no matter who was at fault. However, if another driver was at fault for your accident and you pursue a claim for injuries against the other driver or his insurance carrier, your insurance company would likely be entitled to ask for repayment of any bills it paid under the medical payment coverage from your settlement with the other driver.

Medical Payments Coverage | Indiana Lawyer Discusses

03:22
http://www.davidholublaw.com #IndianaLawyer Hi, I'm Indiana personal injury attorney David Holub, and this video discusses the subject of MedPay insurance coverage that sometimes can be purchased when you purchase automobile insurance. So here's the key question: how does having Med Pay insurance coverage help me if I'm in an auto accident? Medical Payments coverage, sometimes referred to as Med Pay, provides for the payment of medical expenses that are attributable to injuries that you suffer in an automobile crash. It's extra coverage over liability coverage, and you generally need to ask for the special coverage. Generally, it's a benefit that the automobile insurance carrier agrees to pay in result of injuries that have suffered in a car or while alighting from a car, or entering a car. The benefit is generally payable regardless of who is at fault for the crash. As mentioned, Med Pay coverage can also extend to situations in which you are injured while getting out of a car, entering a car that is covered, or sometimes just walking to or from a car that is covered. For example, if you're in a parking lot loading groceries into your trunk after shopping and another car hits you, Med Pay coverage will apply. Suppose you get run over in a parking lot walking from your car to the store and another careless driver hits you. Med Pay coverage usually can apply in that situation, unless there's something unusual in the policy preventing it. Also, sometimes Med Pay coverage can apply if you or one of your children is engaged in crossing a street having exited a car or on your way to a car and you're hit. In that situation, Med Pay coverage could apply to protect you against the bills you incur because of your injuries. Typically, the Med Pay coverage is sold in limited dollar values, such as $1,000 to maybe $25,000, and typically you see Med Pay sold at $5,000 increments, but it can be purchased for up to $100,000 in some cases. Many times, the better coverage you have, the better you will financially be in the event of a crash, since you have not only the Med Pay coverage benefits to protect you, but your ordinary health insurance can protect you in the event of a crash. One thing to keep in mind is that the company that is compelled to pay Med Pay benefits also may have what's called a subrogation right. This means that at a final settlement of a claim, that company that pays Med Pay benefits will have an opportunity to be reimbursed a certain percentage of what it paid in order to recoup some of the losses that it incurred by having to pay you the Med Pay benefit. Med Pay is very helpful if you're injured and can't work, since when you're unable to work your income is restricted and you're having medical bills coming in. It's an extremely valuable benefit to have if you can afford it. As with our other videos, this video just gives you some general information on the subject of Med Pay. You're very welcome to call our office if you have questions about the subject of Med Pay or need other legal advice.

http://www.LockeMeredithLaw.com (225) 272-5300 (800) 479-9223 Hello, I'm Locke Meredith with a Legal Lines tip for you. Buy medical payments insurance coverage. Why, you ask? Because medical pay coverage pays medical expenses up to the amount that you purchased, say $5,000 for your medical expenses incurred when you're involved in an automobile collision, whether it's your fault or the other party's fault. And it will pay the medical expenses for everyone that's in your vehicle. As we all know, health insurance companies do not always pay the medical expenses in full. They have a deductible. And oftentimes, they wait a long time before they pay it. Also, the other party who may be at fault for the collision, their insurance company may refuse to pay until they can wrap up the entire claim. So it is my advice to you that you purchase medical pay insurance coverage. The Legal Lines tip from me, Locke Meredith, to you is buy med pay. http://www.lockemeredithlaw.com/video-transcripts/legal-lines-buy-medical-payments-insurance/
