4 Foods That Mess Up Your Hormones

09:48
Please Subscribe for 3x Videos Per Week and Live Broadcasts! http://ThomasDeLauer.com 4 Foods That Mess Up Your Hormones 1. Soy - Specifically Non-Organic According to the National Institutes of Health, we do not fully understand the health effects of pesticides, but their use is associated with cancer, neurological conditions, and diabetes. (9) Phytoestrogens are found in numerous plants, including legumes, broccoli, beans, and soy products. Studies have found both positive and negative effects of phytoestrogens, so these are not necessarily bad - have been found to inhibit certain types of cancer and improve metabolic parameters (1). That said, phytoestrogens have a very similar structure to the estrogen found in our bodies. These phytoestrogens both connect to and stimulate estrogen receptors. Case Study In the Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood, it was found that 51 of 7,928 boys born suffered from hypospadias, a conditions where the penis does not work and appears abnormal. It was found that boys born to vegetarian mothers who had higher phytoestrogen content in their diets were more likely to be born with hypospadias. Soy formulas are of particular concern as this intake can be as high as four to seven times that of the quantity of phytoestrogen per pound of body weight as that of a traditional soy-based Asian diet. (7) 2. High Omega 6 Fats It is important to have a healthy balance of omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids in our diets, however in the USA we tend to consume about 14 to 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. Our bodies produce hormones from omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. The hormones produced from omega-6 fatty acids promote inflammation while those produced from omega-3 fatty acids help to reduce inflammation. (6) This large consumption of proinflammatory foods is coinciding with an increase in chronic inflammatory diseases, including obesity, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and may others. 3. Flax Case Study - Rats Born to Mothers with 10% Flaxseed Diets Experienced Hormonal Effects and Birth Weight Differences In a 1998 study published in the Journal of Nutrition, rats were fed diets containing either 0%, 5% or 10% flaxseed while pregnant and during lactation. No difference was found between the 0% and 5% flaxseed diet, but there were weight and hormonal differences found between the 0% flaxseed and 10% flaxseed diet. 4. Dairy - Specifically Non-Organic In the US, the vast majority of our meat and dairy come from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). Animals raised in CAFOs are treated horribly, packed together, and fed unnatural diets. They are fed questionable chemicals to encourage faster growth and pumped with antibiotics to keep them alive. These antibiotics, hormones, and other chemicals may disrupt your endocrine system. Estrogens and insulin-like growth factor found in dairy are thought to encourage initiation in breast, endometrial, and prostate cancers. (11) References: 1. (Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/) There are two questions pertaining to the self – the metaphysical and empirical - that are often confounded. The latter is best approached through neurology as V.S. Ramachandran, Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition at UC San Diego, illustrates in this fascinating lecture at UC Berkeley. Recorded on 03/01/2016. 💓 Natural Alternatives To Statin Cholesterol Lowering Drugs

CRC Press, 1999; pp. 35-47. https://cen.acs.org/articles/87/i23/Story-Statins.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homocysteine ======================================= 💓 Natural Alternatives To Statin Cholesterol Lowering Drugs ======================================= One of the best selling and most profitable drugs for over 2 decades are cholesterol lowering, “statin drugs”. The first “commercially” available, FDA approved statin was introduced over 30 years ago (lovastatin 1997) and this was formulated based on a natural substance, that I’ll reveal to you in a minute. The most popular ones that you’ve probably heard of are Lipitor (Atorvastatin), Crestor (Rosuvastatin) and Zocor (Simvastatin). Muscle pain AND damage. Just keep in mind that your body, including your HEART is functional ONLY because of your muscles. Liver Damage 80% of your cholesterol is made within the liver, NOT from the foods you eat. These drugs go inside your liver, prevent the formation of cholesterol and in the process, DAMAGE your liver. Elevated Blood Sugar and Type 2 Diabetes One of the worst things for again and every problem in your body is high blood sugar and insulin levels. Neurological Problems Sure, it causes depression, anxiety, panic attacks, worry, etc., etc. I’m not even going to get into arthritis, elevated blood pressure and probably the WORST problem of all - hormonal imbalances. Natural Alternatives So let’s get right to it, I’ll make this quick. First, your goal is NOT to have “low” cholesterol, you want HEALTHY cholesterol levels. Additionally and more importantly, you ALSO want optimal ratios of your HDL (“good” cholesterol/lipoprotein) and LDL (“bad” cholesterol/lipoprotein). Well, that’s from Red Yeast Rice, which is a common food in Asia. The natural form of this extract, in small doses, has all the positive “cholesterol lowering” benefits, but without the negatives of the synthetic drugs. Other Cholesterol Optimizing Herbs Other clinically proven, natural herbal extracts that promote health cholesterol levels and balanced lipid levels, which are: Artichoke Leaf Extract Phytosterols Complex Garlic Policosanol Instead of taking thyroid drugs, I suggest taking Guggulsterones (10% Pure Extract; E and Z) Iodine (Kelp Extract) Cleanse Your Liver As stated earlier, most people don’t know that 80% of your cholesterol is created within your body, by your liver… and NOT from the foods you eat. This is why many times, the change in your diet doesn’t make dramatic improvements in cholesterol levels. Thus, the stronger your liver, the easier your body will eliminate and detox “excess cholesterol” from your blood. The irony is that ALL drugs, especially statins, cause liver damage and thus, will eventually increase your cholesterol levels. But, since this is almost impossible for most people, I suggest you take Milk Thistle (80% Extract) NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine) - which also boost your immune system. R+ Alpha Lipoic Acid (r+ ALA) - which also helps lower your blood sugar. Reduce Homocysteine Levels All doctors are so focused on improving cholesterol to help you avoid heart disease, a heart attack or stroke -- that they forget (or don’t KNOW!) about something super important and that’s your Homocysteine Levels. In fact, researchers now believe that testing homocysteine levels is over 47% more accurate at predicting heart disease, than checking cholesterol. The cool part is that you can easily and quickly improve Homocysteine levels by simply taking a specific ratio of certain B-Vitamins Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCL) Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin) Folate (as 5-Methyl-tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)) Vitamin B5 [Pantesin® d-Pantethine (special form of B5)] Reduce Inflammation Finally, one of the leading causes of many illnesses and diseases is inflammation. And there are a few ingredients that’ll help reduce it, 3 of my favorites are: Turmeric (95% curcuminoids Extract) Ginger (10% extract) Mixed Vit. E - Tocotrienols (90% Delta &10% Gamma Tocotrienols) ======================================== Thank you for watching. Please feel free to comment, like or share with your friends. Is CR Neuromodulation Effective for Tinnitus?

Well, I think Acoustic CR Neuromodulation is ✍likely harmless and likely has some benefit for many people, but certainly not all, even within the restricted population. BUT, if your tinnitus is ✍related to hearing loss AND your tinnitus is ✍between 200 and 10,000 Hz, it may be worth a try. If the research gets a little more ROBUST, I would consider it a good part of the treatment possibilities. 🚀Future Applications: ✍I would lump Acoustic CR Neuromodulation in with Notched Music as SIMILAR, AUDITORY therapies that take 5 HOURS per day for a minimum of 5 MONTHS to have their effect. Those who are willing to put in a little more SHORT-TERM effort for a QUICKER effect for 30 MINUTES per day for 30 DAYS, the Auditory Discrimination Therapy approach would be preferable. Nature Crazy's Top 5 Tips For Reversing Parkinson's Disease

07:34
The field of epigenetics (which was a direct result of the work carried out at the human genome project) has shown us that damaged genes can be fixed and there is emerging scientific evidence as well as new and overlooked research coming out from all over the world that shows Parkinson’s can be effectively treated and fully reversed. The successful application of an effective Parkinson’s protocol incorporates empirical science about the root cause of disease with a logical understanding of how Parkinson’s affects the body. In other words, getting to the root cause of the problem as opposed to treating the symptoms. In today’s video Nature Crazy goes over its Top 5 science based protocols for reversing Parkinson’s naturally. 1. Consider supplementing with Lithium Orotate daily. Numerous in vitro and in vivo studies have shown lithium treatment to work by modulating several homeostatic mechanisms involved in neurotrophic response, autophagy, stress, mitochondrial function, and inflammation. Additionally, it inhibits glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta (GSK-3β) and inositol monophosphatase. This simply means that Lithium Orotate can help halt the progression of certain neurodegenerative diseases such as parkinsons by cleaning up mis-formed proteins that aren’t supposed to be in the brain. This process is known as autophagy. Again we recommend 10 mg of Lithium Orotate a day from a high quality brand. 2. Consider supplementing with Krill oil or some other good source of Omega-3 fatty acids because a study carried out by Université Laval found Omega-3 fatty acids protect your brain against Parkinson’s disease. The research findings showed that omega-3 fats in your diet may protect your brain cells. It works by preventing the misfolding of a protein resulting from a gene mutation in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's. A deduction to be gained from this finding is that a brain containing a lack of Omega 3 fatty acids and an excessive amount of omega 6 fatty acids may contribute to creating an environment that encourages the development of Parkinson’s disease. We recommend taking Krill Oil twice a day which is an excellent choice for getting the right amount of Omega-3 in the diet. 3. Consider supplementing with Iodine since iodine is crucial for working nerves, normal dopamine production, and the removal of heavy metals from the brain. Iodine ought to be particularly concentrated in the substantia nigra, however, in Parkinson’s patients it is not. Correcting this and bringing iodine levels back up to where they should be many times will provide great improvement to those suffering from Parkinson’s. Also, it’s important since long-term iodine deficiency seems to be linked to irregularities in the dopaminergic system that include a greater amount of dopamine receptors. It is argued that this raises susceptivity to dopamine oxidation which can cause a shortage of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase. We recommend a quality brand daily. 4. Consider supplementing with coenzyme q10. While CoQ10 has been successfully tested in clinical trials for other neurological disorders such as Huntington's Disease, it has gained more traction in regards to Parkinson’s as researchers from Japan's Juntendo University School of Medicine have discovered that one particular form of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) can significantly reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Because evidence suggests that mitochondrial dysfunction and oxygen free radicals play a role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s it makes sense that the dual function of coenzyme Q10 as a potent antioxidant and as a component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain would be helpful in slowing the progression of Parkinson’s disease. We recommend a quality brand daily. 5. Supplementing with a heavy metal detoxifier like Humifulvate on an ongoing regular basis will be very helpful in your recovery because mercury and other heavy metals actually play a large part in a bountiful amount of neurodegenerative diseases and Parkinson’s is no exception. A new study from India has linked significantly increased blood levels of heavy metals with Parkinson’s disease so a regular detox routine to keep heavy metals low in our bodies is an excellent way to stop and reverse these disorders and diseases. We recommend Immune Boost 77 which is a great way to detoxify the body. Top 8 Ways Your Body Is Telling That It Is Low On Essential Vitamins

11:34
How to know that your body is low on essential vitamins. Having a well-balanced and nutritious diet can provide your body with many health benefits. But with every balanced and nutritious diet, there is always someone who has a diet that is lacking certain nutrients. This can cause some unpleasant symptoms. We tend to get frustrated when these symptoms occur, but this is the only way your body can communicate that you have certain vitamin or mineral deficiencies. By recognizing them, you’ll be able to rectify your diet accordingly. Of course, if you think that you may have a vitamin deficiency, it is always in your best interest to consult with a doctor first before making any change to your health care or diet. Timestamps: 1 Brittle Hair and Nails: 1:13 2 Mouth Ulcers: 2:26 3 Bleeding Gums: 3:51 4 Poor Vision At Night: 5:16 5 Scaly Patches and Dandruff: 5:43 6 Hair Loss: 6:36 7 White and Red Bumps On Your Skin: 8:24 8 Restless Leg Syndrome: 9:17 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music Summary: 1 Brittle Hair and Nails: One of the main vitamin deficiencies that can cause brittle hair and nails is biotin deficiency. According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, individuals who constantly consume raw egg whites over long periods of time can become biotin deficient. 2 Mouth Ulcers: Have you ever gotten a canker sore or crack on the side of your mouth? If you have, chances are you may be suffering from low iron or vitamin B. According to one study published on PubMed, 144 patients in the United Kingdom who had oral disease were examined in order to try and resolve the controversy of whether or not levels of hemoglobin, blood cell numbers and indices, and blood film are adequate in the screening of patients with mouth ulcers. 3 Bleeding Gums: Sometimes when you brush your teeth aggressively, you end up with bleeding gums. Other times you may have a serious case of bad oral health, but sometimes a diet that is lacking vitamin C can contribute to your bleeding gums. According to the National Institute of Health, as vitamin C deficiency progresses, collagen synthesis becomes impaired and connective tissues in the body become weak. This can cause several health issues to occur, which includes swollen, bleeding gums and even loosening of teeth, because of how weak the tissues have become. 4 Poor Vision At Night: If your diet is lacking vitamin A, you may suffer from night blindness, according to an article published on PubMed. The article elaborated by explaining that if this symptom is left untreated; it can progress and become xerophthalmia, which is a condition that can damage the cornea and can potentially lead to blindness. 5 Scaly Patches and Dandruff: Scaly patches and dandruff can be caused by many different factors. According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, vitamin B6 deficiency can be one of them. According to the book Human Vitamin B6 Requirements, one of the main causes of seborrheic dermatitis is vitamin B6 deficiency. If you are unfamiliar with seborrheic dermatitis, it is a common skin condition that mainly affects the scalp. The reason this occurs is that vitamin B6 is important for new cell production. 6 Hair Loss: According to a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology, vitamin D deficiency has been linked to alopecia, the autoimmune condition that causes bald patches on the scalp and other areas of the body. The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the status of vitamin D in patients who had alopecia areata and the relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of the disease. 7 White and Red Bumps On Your Skin: If you ever have red or white bumps on your skin, you may be suffering from keratosis pilaris – small red or white bumps resembling acne and rough patches of skin on the arms, thighs and buttocks. Keratosis pilaris is a purely cosmetic condition that has no negative health effects and normally does not hurt or itch, according to Livestrong. 8 Restless Leg Syndrome: The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke states that restless leg syndrome affects up to 10% of Americans, and women are twice as likely to experience it. According to an article published on PubMed, there are two possible known causes for restless leg syndrome: CNS dopaminergic abnormality and CNS iron insufficiency. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to Bestie : https://goo.gl/tUqro6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bestieinc/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.bestie.com/

What Makes Science True? | NOVA

15:00
What makes science reliable? The ability to reproduce the results of an experiment, known as reproducibility, is one of the hallmarks of a valid scientific finding. But science is facing what many consider a reproducibility crisis, and the stakes are high. Many scientific claims cannot be replicated, and many clinical trials fail as a result. This 15-minute video examines the reproducibility crisis and reports on the outcome of five experiments designed to test the reproducibility of cancer biology studies. While NOVA had no editorial involvement in this video, we believe it is a thoughtful and well-researched exploration of a complex topic, and we are pleased to share it with you. The video was produced by Dakin Henderson and Kelly Thomson, and was funded entirely by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation (LJAF). In the interest of full transparency: LJAF has an interest in this subject matter, is one of a handful of funders that supports the cost of conducting reproducibility experiments, and provided funding to the organizations featured in this video in order to carry out the reproducibility studies covered here. We have been assured that LJAF had no editorial involvement in the video. Wake up, I'm Speaking: The Neuroscience of Sleep and Dreaming

01:42:09
It seems that everybody, from comedians, to poets, to world leaders, have something to say about sleep. So why not scientists? Sleep, or the lack of it, is the focus of considerable research in the United States, where sleep disorders and sleep deprivation have been associated with poor cognitive performance, behavioral problems, accidents, ill health and other factors that adversely affect quality of life. When we do sleep, we also dream; in fact, during a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming. In the past, dreams have been interpreted as omens of the future, representations of reality, and even divine messages from the gods. Nowadays, we tend to have slightly more rational views about dreams, but their significance and meaning remain a subject of debate in both science and public discourse. Speakers will address what neuroscience research tells us about sleep, sleep disorders, the mechanisms and functions of dreaming, and the impact of sleep research on medicine and society. Speakers: Deirdre Leigh Barrett, Ph.D. Department of Psychiatry Harvard Medical School Deirdre Barrett is a psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. She is past President of both the International Association for the Study of Dreams and The Society for Psychological Hypnosis. Dr. Barrett has written four books including The Committee of Sleep: How Artists, Scientists and Athletes Use their Dreams for Creative Problem Solving - and How you Can Too. She is the editor of four additional books including The New Science of Dreaming and Trauma and Dreams. She is Editor-in-Chief of DREAMING: The Journal of the Association for the Study of Dreams. Dr. Barrett has published dozens of academic articles and chapters on dreams, hypnosis, and imagery. Her own articles have appeared in Psychology Today and Scientific American. Clifford B. Saper, M.D., Ph.D. James Jackson Putnam Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience Harvard Medical School Clifford Saper is the James Jackson Putnam Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience and Chairman of the Harvard Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He served on the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine from 1981-1985 and moved to the University of Chicago from 1985-1992. He received a Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the NIH, and was named one of the 100 most frequently cited neuroscientists by the Institute for Scientific Information. Dr. Saper was elected to the Institute of Medicine, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Royal College of Physicians (London). Dr. Saper's research has explored circuitry of the brain that controls basic functions such as wake-sleep cycles, feeding, and immune response, and how these circuits are disrupted in neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, in sleep disorders such as narcolepsy and sleep apnea, and during aging. Michael J. Twery, Ph.D. Director, National Center on Sleep Disorders Research National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, NIH Michael Twery is the director of the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR) in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) Division of Lung Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Twery has led the NIH's sleep and respiratory neurobiology scientific research group since 1996, and has served as director of the NCSDR since January 2006. In these roles, Dr. Twery oversees the support of research and research training related to sleep disordered breathing, the fundamental functions of sleep and circadian rhythms, and sleep disorder epidemiology and clinical trials. Prior to joining the NHLBI, Dr. Twery was a member of the research faculty at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, and for six years was a senior staff fellow at the NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

The latest research, published in the journal Human Brain Mapping, found that blood flow is reduced in the Broca's area — the region in the frontal lobe of the brain linked to speech production — in people who stutter.” Reduced Perfusion in Broca’s Area in Developmental Stuttering https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/articles/28035724/ “We detected lower regional Cerebral Blood Flow (rCBF) at rest in the stuttering group compared with healthy controls in Broca's area bilaterally and the superior frontal gyrus. rCBF values in Broca's area bilaterally correlated inversely with the severity of stuttering and extended posteriorly into other portions of the language loop.” Stuttering linked to reduced blood flow in area of brain associated with language https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/01/170103162356.htm “A new study demonstrates that regional cerebral blood flow is reduced in the Broca's area -- the region in the frontal lobe of the brain linked to speech production -- in persons who stutter. Slow Start Makes Me Cringe

05:44
I originally dropped Slow Start early on when it was airing, because it was low priority and the series just felt a bit weird to me. However, this weirdness is part of its charm, and through contrast serves to emphasize the many facets of anxiety it explores. Sometimes I forget that you have to approach things from different angles sometimes, and I'm glad I gave Slow Start a second-chance. And it's a little fitting because that's really what the show is about. How To Grow New Brain Cells By Increasing BDNF

08:19
The Ripped Dude Program https://rippeddude.com/ Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, known as BDNF is a protein which promotes neurogenesis or the growth of new brain cells. It's closely associated with intelligence, memory, and various neurological disorders. Certain practices such as intermittent fasting, exercise, socialising and even some drugs work on increasing BDNF. In this video I go over what you can consume and/or do in order to increase this important protein. The Science of the Transgender Issue VS. the Pseudoscience Surrounding Gender and Biology!

24:52
Biology Greetings from the future, In this long awaited video I will be tackling a subject that some would deem controversial. The transgender issue is something that has been debated for years and the flames are still raging today. In this video I examine the two sides of the debate and present the current conclusions made by the scientific community. One side says it's caused by the wrong brain in the wrong body where the other side says it's caused by a mental disorder. These two positions are correct to an extent, doctors and physicians know and use this knowledge to diagnose gender dysphoria. I also debunk some of the pseudoscience surrounding gender, sex, and the transgender issue, so enjoy the video! //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Citations: Gender ideology harms children: https://www.acpeds.org/the-college-speaks/position-statements/gender-ideology-harms-children Sex is a social construct: https://tal9000.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/sex-is-a-social-construct/ The social construction of biological sex: https://medium.com/@discomfiting/the-social-constructionism-of-biological-sex-307398094541#.kxinsfka0 White matter microstructure in female to male transsexuals before cross-sex hormonal treatment: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022395610001585 The transgender brain: http://transascity.org/the-transgender-brain/ Males and females differ in specific brain structures: http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/males-and-females-differ-in-specific-brain-structures Intelligence In Men And Women Is A Gray And White Matter: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/01/050121100142.htm Transgender: Evidence on the biological nature of gender identity: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/02/150213112317.htm White Matter Matters: http://www.nature.com/scientificamerican/journal/v298/n3/full/scientificamerican0308-54.html Body dysmorphic disorder: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_dysmorphic_disorder Schizophrenia modifying the expression of gender identity disorder: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18069992 Schizophrenia Modifying the Expression of Gender Identity Disorder: http://www.jsm.jsexmed.org/article/S1743-6095(15)32467-X/abstract Gender Identity Disorder and Schizophrenia: Neurodevelopmental Disorders with Common Causal Mechanisms?: https://www.hindawi.com/journals/schizort/2014/463757/ Delusional “Pseudotranssexualism” in Schizophrenia: http://guilfordjournals.com/doi/abs/10.1521/psyc.2007.70.2.175 Transsexual differences caught on brain scan: https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn20032-transsexual-differences-caught-on-brain-scan A sex difference in the human brain and its relation to transsexuality: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v378/n6552/pdf/378068a0.pdf Male-to-Female Transsexuals Have Female Neuron Numbers in a Limbic Nucleus: http://press.endocrine.org/doi/pdf/10.1210/jcem.85.5.6564 The microstructure of white matter in male to female transsexuals before cross-sex hormonal treatment. Limbic System: Sex, Hallucinations, Emotion, Memory, PTSD, Amygdala... Brain Mind Lecture 6

53:31
http://BrainMind.com Brain Mind Lecture 6: Limbic System, Introductory Overview: Amygdala, Hypothalamus, Hippocampus, Hallucinations, Memory, Emotion, Sexuality, Amnesia, Flashbacks, PTSD, Brain Mind Lecture 6, Rhawn Joseph, Ph.D. http://BrainMind.com The video constitutes one of six Brain Mind Introductory Lectures, posted on youtube, each providing an introductory overview of the functional organization of the brain. To reduce confusion, all CT images have been reversed so damage on the left appears on the left, and right sided damage appear on the right. For a detailed presentation I recommend one of the best neuroscience texts of all time: the 2nd edition of Neuropsychiatry, Neuropsychology, Clinical Neuroscience, by Rhawn Joseph, Ph.D. These are introductory lectures providing an overview of the functional organization of the brain. Dr. Rhawn Joseph has published major scientific discoveries in prestigious scientific journals and has published several highly acclaimed "best selling" advanced post-graduate textbooks. In the 1970s he proved/discovered 1) the role of early environmental influences on learning, memory, attention, and impulse control, 2) the role of sex hormones and the lack of sex hormones on sex differences in behavior, cognition, learning, memory, and spatial ability, 3) neurplasticity and recovery of function in the primate brain and is considered one of the founding fathers of the field of Developmental Neuropsychology. Dr. Joseph also published major scientific discoveries on "split-brain" functioning and the duality of consciousness. He coined the term "limbic language." His theory of language first published and featured on the cover of the 1983 Journal of Clinical Psychology, has been widely accepted and scientifically verified and numerous scientists now claim the theory as theory as their own. Dr. Joseph's scholarly articles and monographs have been reprinted by major universities and medical schools, including Harvard, have been translated and republished by foreign scientific journals, and he has been invited to speak at the University of Geneva, Brigham Young University, the University of Japan, Santa Clara University, and the University of California at Berkeley.

What is MSG? In the 1960's the phrase, “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome" was coined by an article in The New England Journal of Medicine. Twenty minutes after eating Chinese food, some very sensitive people would experience tingling, brain fog, numbness, chest pressure and pain. Monosodium Glutamic Acid (MSG) refers to a chemical process in which glutamic acid is isolated, and then, as a purified white powder, it is added to foods as a flavor enhancer. MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it amps up and stimulates sensory nerves – in an enhanced, tastier way. As a flavor enhancer, the toxic form of MSG or glutamic acid is called D-glutamic acid. ...read more: http://lifespa.com/sneaky-names-for-msg-check-your-labels RELATED ARTICLES: Confused About Vaccines? -- http://lifespa.com/confused-about-vaccines/ Guar Gum: Finally, A Healthy Food Additive -- http://lifespa.com/guar-gum-finally-a-healthy-food-additive/ French Foods are Heart Healthy -- http://lifespa.com/french-foods-are-heart-healthy/ Emulsifiers in Common Foods Erode your Gut -- http://lifespa.com/emulsifiers-in-common-foods-erode-your-gut/ Nature’s Blueprint for Health this Winter -- http://lifespa.com/natures-blueprint-health-winter/ Does Weak Digestion Sabotage Mental Health? -- http://lifespa.com/weak-digestion-sabotage-mental-health/ Is Your Food Emotionally Charged? -- http://lifespa.com/food-emotionally-charged/ Remove Toxins from Your Fat Cells -- http://lifespa.com/remove-toxins-from-your-fat-cells/ Benefits of Cooking with Low Heat -- http://lifespa.com/benefits-of-cooking-with-low-heat/ Are You Eating Wood Pulp and Don’t Know It? -- http://lifespa.com/are-you-eating-wood-pulp-and-dont-know-it/

The Science of a Warm Up

13:20
This video mainly discusses the neurological factors of a warm up. To provide a very high-level overview: 1. Training purpose is to leverage force production of muscles to accomplish tasks to become better at those tasks over time. 2. Neurological drive is a major factor of a muscles ability to produce force. 3. Neurological drive is heavily affected by the sensory information coming from the connective tissues that make up the joint that muscle is moving. 4. If the joint does not move well or is not stimulated, your muscles will not be able to optimally produce force within the range it has available. The WARM UP is a time to stimulate those joint tissues so the body can maximize its use of the muscles around the joints. ** A warm-up is NOT MOBILITY TRAINING. ** So, rather than passive stretching and foam rolling (which are passive inputs that do not help optimize muscular force production), you should be using active controlled movements of each joint that will be involved. I tried to offer some simple ideas for warm-ups (not an exhaustive list). You will need to critically think about your training plan for the day and follow the simple rules outlined in the video to develop a personalized warm-up for yourself. Additional videos: Video on the truths about foam rolling - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t0ySeV0Nt4&t=7s Video about CARS that I referenced - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRY0EfCt1xo Here are a couple references for some articles that discuss the neurological relationship between joints and muscles.
