Click here to download the Design Fundamentals Cheat Sheets: http://www.teachmetodesign.com/designfundamentals In this video I will show you how you can learn to master scale to achieve balance in your designs. Working with scale in Graphic Design is one of the things that I see beginner and even intermediate designers struggle with. It refers to the size of different elements in relation to one another. This can apply to your typography in a layout as well as the images in a photo manipulation or illustration. Build Amazing Fertile Garden Soil Using Free and Local Resources in your Mulch or Compost

04:58
How to build soil fertility for the perfect garden soil for free! It is fall here in Alberta and that means the summer crops are done and some of the garden beds are done for the year. Just because there is nothing goring in some of these beds does not mean you can’t be getting ready for next season. Today I am going to show you how I continue to build soil fertility over the winter with free and local resources. Mulching garden beds is a great practice to help build your soil fertility. Compost Probably the best thing to mulch with is finished compost. The nutrients are immediately available for the nutrient cycle and it usually comes with a high concentration of beneficial bacteria and organisms like earth worms that will help break down the other mulch materials. Generally I simply lay it on top in a 2-3 cm or 1 inch layer after having pulled back any undecomposed mulch material. I don’t mix it in so that I don’t damage any of the beneficial organisms like fungi in the soil. Autumn Leaves Autumn leaves are a great resource that quite literally falls from the sky. They have a wide variety of trace elements and carbon. In fact of the 15 commonly tested for beneficial and essential elements autumn leaves have 11/15. When broken down they add these nutrients to the nutrient cycle and the carbon material adds humus that retains water and provides habitat for soil born beneficial organisms. I usually add a thick layer to the garden as it will help insulate the soil from the harshest winter temperatures. By spring the volume will have decreased as it decomposes. The one thing autumn leaves don’t have a lot of is Nitrogen for this we will need to turn to some other resources you generate in the kitchen Used Coffee Grounds and Tea Leaves Used coffee grounds and tea leaves are often tossed in the trash but they are a valuable resource to add to the garden. When I analyzed coffee grounds in the testing garden assumptions series videos I found they had a total NPK of 2.05-0.2979-0.7469 with a hand full of trace elements. Used Tea leaves also have an impressive total NPK of 4.15-0.62 -0.4 doubling the nitrogen and phosphorus of used coffee grounds [1] Tea leaves also have 12 of 15 elements making them a valuable addition to the mulch. I usually sprinkle them directly on top of the autumn leaves making sure not to apply more than a cm or ½ inch to any one area. If over applied they can slow the decomposition process. Not only can you take materials that would otherwise become trash but you can literally grow your own fertilizer on site. Comfrey Comfrey is a plant that sends down a deep taproot to and is able to collect nutrients from the mineral layer and bring it to the surface as a part of its leaves. I use the leaves as a part of my mulch layer helping to deposit those nutrients where the garden plants can use them. Comfrey has a total NPK of 3.7-1.2-8.43 and it contains all 15 of the 15 commonly tested for essential and beneficial elements. Eggshells Eggshells are commonly added to my mulch layer as well. They are over 40% calcium that is immediately plant available when released from the shell. Eggshells also have a wide variety of elements including nitrogen. They have 9/15 elements tested for and most importantly have significant quantities of Selenium which is often not in other free and local resources. Eggshells are easy to add to the mulch layer. I usually let them dry out in my shed for a few months. This will help reduce any potential for harmful bacterial to colonize. Once dry and brittle I crush the shells roughly and simply sprinkle on the mulch layer. Hot Compost If you are applying mulch to an area near a live plant make sure not to apply too thick of a layer of these mulch materials. When combine in larger quantities they can and will create a hot compost that can damage root systems. Cover Crops, Wood Ash and Urine When combine and used in a mulch layer or in the creation of compost these free and local resources often have more than enough nutrients allowing you to grow healthy organic vegetables year after year. If combine with other free and local methods such as cover crops, wood ash and human urine I am confident anyone can have a product free garden that produces healthy organic crops. If you would like more information on the materials above make sure to check out the Testing Garden Assumptions Series [2] where I take a look at garden Methods, Practices and Products to see if they are supported by science. The videos that are published the first Friday of the month have taken an in depth look at the materials we used today and they are supported. Scale your Sales and Marketing funnel with Value Ladders

02:23
What is a Value ladder? How can you use this technique to scale your sales and marketing funnel exponentially? Organisations often have the wrong perception how to align sales and marketing. You can build up way more quality leads if your sales teams can call and share valuable content and tools than just asking straight for a meeting. People need to TRUST you before you can close any deal. The best way to do this is to have sales give input in the material marketing needs to produce. This is exactly what a value ladder does. Also, it will also give you an up-sell opportunity at every step. That is why we have created the DIY Value Ladder Canvas. With this canvas, you can build your value ladder in an easy way and tune all the steps individually to reach your goals much faster. Consumer Optimization

06:29
We live in a world of scarcity. In other words, what we want outweighs what we can attain. Why? Well, we have limited resources – money, options, time, etc. When you’re making choices about what to buy, your budget, the prices of goods and services, and your preferences all act as constraints. To better illustrate this idea, let’s return to our simple example of pizzas and coffees. Let’s also assume that you like both pizza and coffee and want more of both. If you were to look at a map of your indifference curves for these goods, you’d see that you get the most utility on the indifference curve farthest from the origin. But, since scarcity is our reality, that level of utility is probably not achievable. Combining your budget constraint with your indifference curves can help you see how to get maximum utility given your resources. Any point at which your budget constraint lies tangent to an indifference curve is an optimal combination of pizzas and coffees. Why is it optimal? Two simple reasons: 1) You can afford it, and 2) it will give you the most happiness (aka utility). In this video, Arizona State University’s Professor Joana Girante will further explain the concept consumer optimization and how it applies to your everyday life. She’ll also cover why your points of consumer optimization will never intersect, but always lie tangent to, your indifference curves. Finally. Prof. Girante will go over marginal rates of substitution in more detail. With just a simple hot glue and acrylic paint i've manage to build a table size rock crawling track which i called the "Rubble Wasteland" which fits great for my 1:35 scale Orlandoo Jeep 4wd vehicles and also Yokomo NanoQlo micro 4WD. You can say its one of the most extreme home made rock crawling track with steep vertical climbs, drops, switchbacks and other axle twisting obstacles ever made. Yet more surprises to come soon as it has more hidden feature not shown in this video...reserved for next footage hehehe!. Human Population Through Time

It took 200,000 years for our human population to reach 1 billion—and only 200 years to reach 7 billion. But growth has begun slowing, as women have fewer babies on average. When will our global population peak? And how can we minimize our impact on Earth’s resources, even as we approach 11 billion? #humans #population #humanevolution #overpopulation Download the video in HD: http://media.amnh.org/sciencebulletins/AMNH_HumanPopulation_DOWNLOAD.mp4 Related content: Population Connection http://worldpopulationhistory.org/map/1/mercator/1/0/25/ UN World Population Prospects https://esa.un.org/unpd/wpp/ Real-time population counter http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ NASA EarthData https://earthdata.nasa.gov NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu Video credits: Writer/Producer AMNH/L. Advanced Scale and Arpeggio Exercise

04:46
Garret's Guitar Lessons Here's a great exercise that we can incorporate into every scale and scale shape. The basic idea is to go up the diatonic arpeggio then descend the scale and repeat it throughout the shape. When we descend the exercise, we descend the diatonic arpeggio then ascend the scale. This is an example through one scale and one shape, try them with as many as you can (Mixolydian, Minor, Dorian, Lydian Dominant, etc.). Protein Synthesis (Updated)

08:47
Explore the steps of transcription and translation in protein synthesis! This video explains several reasons why proteins are so important before explaining the roles of mRNA, rRNA, and tRNA in the steps of protein synthesis! Expand details for contents and resources. 👇Video handouts and resources on http://www.amoebasisters.com/handouts. This video replaces our old protein synthesis video: https://youtu.be/h5mJbP23Buo Table of Contents: 0:46 Why are proteins important? 1:48 Introduction to RNA 2:22 Steps of Protein Synthesis 2:43 Transcription 3:54 Translation 6:08 Introduction to mRNA Codon Chart 7:51 Quick Summary Image Vocabulary in this video includes DNA, mRNA, rRNA, and tRNA. This video mentions that proteins can be made of 1 or more polypeptide chains and that proteins typically experience folding and other modifications (to be functional proteins.) Codons and the amino acids they code for is represented by standard charts can be found in the public domain. While the rectangle chart is the common format, there may be other ways to represent the information. P.S. If learning about mutations, check out this cool codon chart that includes mutations(!!) in the public domain: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Notable_mutations.svg Our videos are designed to introduce basic concepts and hopefully to inspire students to stay curious about the content. We simply cannot include all of the exceptions and minute details in a video under 10 minutes, and this is why we so frequently remind people of this in our videos. We want students to go beyond our videos to explore the depth of the material. P.S. On our website, we emphasize that our videos contain science comics- not scientific illustrations. In real life, amoebas don't look like our characters. Our illustrated cell cartoons are definitely not to scale. Nitrogen and carbon don't tap dance. DNA is right-handed (but there are exceptions- worth a google) and doesn't have eyes...a face...or a top hat... How to Grow, Scale and Expand your Ecommerce Business? (PACE Part 4)

11:47
Today's brand building tip, we're going to be talking all about how to grow and scale your business and it's also part of our four-part series and our four pillars in pace and if you've missed these videos, I'm going to link them up in the description because you are going to want to follow along here because everything ties together and we're at the fourth pillar right now, which also stands for expansion. All right, once we get these three things in place, those three pillars, then it's time to start thinking about expanding and about the expansion of our business. So if you want to know how to expand your business or if you should expand your business, definitely stick around because that's what we're going to be covering here on the whiteboard in these five different components. (1:52) DIVERSIFY - All right, so the first thing and a very simple one, and a lot of people want this, is to diversify. Okay? So you want to diversify. What does that mean? (4:13) ADD MORE PRODUCTS - If you add more products, that's kind of diversifying because even if you are only selling on Amazon and you have now five products versus one, well if that one product runs out of inventory, you've got four other products or let's say for example, one of those products does get flagged because it has higher. It has high returns or refunds. (5:45) AUTOMATION - automation is very powerful. Examples are automated email responses or FBA Packing your products. (7:43) TEAM PEOPLE - Creating an e-commerce team to do what you are doing now. (9:23) EXPLORE AND REVIEW P.A.C.E. - Go back and explore P.A.C.E. PREPARING, ATTENTION, CULTIVATION & EXPLORING these different pillars and seeing where you can work on something in your business, in one of these pillars to help build and grow and scale it. P = Preparation - Part 1 - https://youtu.be/ys5Q8gW4t6k A = Attention - Part 2 - https://youtu.be/azuVZJDukVY C = Cultivation - Part 3 - https://youtu.be/LAky6tuKRwA E = Expansion - Part 4 - https://youtu.be/COg742Pty8M • Check out my Weekly Workshop Here: http://theamazingseller.com/workshop/ ★☆★ SUBSCRIBE TO ME ON YOUTUBE: ★☆★ Subscribe ► http://theamazingseller.com/youtube ★☆★ Check out my Blog ► http://theamazingseller.com A Few of The Many Topics Discussed on My Blog are: ▪ Amazon FBA for Beginners - http://theamazingseller.com/453 ▪ Retail Arbitrage - http://theamazingseller.com/7 ▪ Internet Marketing Tips - http://theamazingseller.com/318 ▪ Insert Cards - http://theamazingseller.com/355 ▪ Video Marketing - http://theamazingseller.com/510 ▪ Advertising & Marketing - http://theamazingseller.com/522 ▪ Building Sales Funnels In Your Business (What – How And When?) - http://theamazingseller.com/527 ▪ 3 Types Of Sales Funnels For Your Business (Survive Without Amazon Sales)- http://theamazingseller.com/230 ▪ Product Selection - http://theamazingseller.com/429 ▪ FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) - http://theamazingseller.com/459 ▪ Sourcing - http://theamazingseller.com/332 ▪ Email List Marketing - http://theamazingseller.com/520 ▪ Email List Building - http://theamazingseller.com/157 ▪ Facebook Fan Page - http://theamazingseller.com/485 ▪ Private Label - http://theamazingseller.com/440 ▪ How To Launch Products - http://theamazingseller.com/465 ▪ Jungle Scout - Greg Mercer - http://theamazingseller.com/344 ▪ Amazon PPC - http://theamazingseller.com/119 ▪ Keywords - http://theamazingseller.com/483 ▪ Entrepreneur - http://theamazingseller.com/125 ▪ And Much More Top Tools & Resources For FBA Private Label Sellers - http://theamazingseller.com/resources ★☆★ FOLLOW ME BELOW★☆★ Facebook ► http://theamazingseller.com/fb Itunes► https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-amazing-seller-podcast/id963294070 Instagram► http://instagram.com/scottvoelker -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How To Find More Profit in Your Amazon FBA Business (Hacks and Tips) " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7FHCsNseH0 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

NSDI '18 - Metron: NFV Service Chains at the True Speed of the Underlying Hardware

23:31
Georgios P. Katsikas, RISE SICS and KTH Royal Institute of Technology In this paper we present Metron, a Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) platform that achieves high resource utilization by jointly exploiting the underlying network and commodity servers’ resources. This synergy allows Metron to: (i) offload part of the packet processing logic to the network, (ii) use smart tagging to setup and exploit the affinity of traffic classes, and (iii) use tag-based hardware dispatching to carry out the remaining packet processing at the speed of the servers’ fastest cache(s), with zero intercore communication. Metron also introduces a novel resource allocation scheme that minimizes the resource allocation overhead for large-scale NFV deployments. With commodity hardware assistance, Metron deeply inspects traffic at 40 Gbps and realizes stateful network functions at the speed of a 100 GbE network card on a single server. Metron has 2.75-6.5x better efficiency than OpenBox, a state of the art NFV system, while ensuring key requirements such as elasticity, fine-grained load balancing, and flexible traffic steering. Great Boulder proving scale of copper-nickel-cobalt assets at Mt Venn project

04:55
Great Boulder Resources Ltd (ASX:GBR) managing director Stefan Murphy speaks to Proactive Investors about the latest developments at its flagship Mt Venn copper-nickel-cobalt project, and Eastern Mafic Complex early-stage exploration play. The first results from a recent drilling program at Mount Venn were released to market this week. "All the drilling remains open along strike, and down and up dip, so we're very excited and we're continuing to show that it's a very very large discovery," says Murphy. Promising metallurgical test results have also been announced. Murphy explains, "what we have is a unique project, so we're looking to produce a copper concentrate as well as a nickel and cobalt sulphide product. So one of the key questions has been our ability to leach the sulphide to produce those nickel and cobalt sulphate products, and really that's going into the battery market. What we've seen is we're getting great extraction rates that are over 90%. We're looking at atmospheric leaching as well as a low-pressure oxidation technique. Both techniques worked really well, so we're very encouraged by that." At the earlier-stage Eastern Mafic Complex project, initial ground EM results are validating the findings of an airborne EM study flown earlier this year. A maiden drilling program there is forecast for late June or early July.

A Large scale Dairy Farm

17:52
LIKE VIDEO, SUBSCRIBE THE CHANNEL Large scale (peri-)urban dairy farming is mainly important in South Asia. Animals (frequently buffaloes) fresh in milk or just before calving are purchased from the rural areas and transported to the cities where they are kept under zero-grazing conditions. All feed is purchased and at the end of the lactation the animals are generally slaughtered. Unit size varies from around 10 to over 100 lactating animals, also milk colonies with thousands of animals occur. An attractive market within the large urban population for a perishable product like milk is one of the reasons that an urban production system has developed: it considerably shortens the distance between the milking animal and the consumer, thereby reducing the risk of spoilage and marketing cost. The availability of cheap by-products from the food processing industry is another for the existence of this system. The system is increasing in importance in and around cities in many developing countries. The large volumes of waste can cause soil, water and air pollution. Most effects are caused by emissions from manure in the form of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and various heavy metals. Emissions from manure in the stables, during storage, after application on soils or when manure is simply disposed of. Losses depend on the system of housing and manure management. Sometimes there is a ready market for the solid manure from near-by vegetable growers. Urine and wastewater is disposed of through the public sewage system or it simply seeps into the ground water or is discharged on the surface water. The livestock in the city areas are also a hygienic and sanitary hazard. The livestock causes a bad smell which is a nuisance especially in residential areas. In this form large-scale dairy production the best dairy animals (buffaloes and cattle) are purchased from the rural areas, milked as long as possible in the city and subsequently slaughtered. This is a permanent drain on the genetic quality of the livestock in the rural areas and these genetic resources are gradually being eroded resulting in a serious loss of animal genetic resources. The following matrix indicates the most common Industrial risks associated with urban/ peri-urban dairy farming.

Visual Contrast & Hierarchy Relations Across Multi-Scale Map Displays — P. William Limpisathian

18:01
Visual Contrast and Hierarchy Relations of Cartographic Features Across Multi-Scale Map Displays: Map Evaluation Results P. William Limpisathian, University of Oregon; Cynthia A. Brewer, The Pennsylvania State University Visual contrast is a fundamental principle employed in cartographic design to highlight foreground elements on maps. However, limited software resources and research exist on how to maintain consistent visual contrast and hierarchy relations across map scales. This task is especially challenging in map series that are constrained by a color and layout template that affects fore-to-background feature recognition. Four combinations of lightness contrast, ten hue contrast combinations, and two line-width contrast levels are tested in combination with six basemap locations, each with two layout variants, generating 960 individual test maps or 480 map pairs. The results of aesthetic and hierarchy evaluations of five map pairs by each Amazon Mechanical Turk worker are analyzed with a Friedman non-parametric test and linear regression models. The project lays the empirical foundation for an application that provides users with map design schemes that preserve the cartographer’s intended visual contrast and hierarchy relations. This presentation was made at the 2017 annual meeting of the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) in Montréal. For more information on NACIS, check out http://NACIS.org.

"Large-scale solar: TomKat Center seed grant research" Mischael McGehee, professor of materials science & engineering Ram Rajagopal, assistant professor of civil & environmental engineering David Lobell, associate professor of Earth system science Thomas Jaramillo. associate professor of materials science & engineering Moderator Stacey Bent, director, TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy Stanford University Energy Seminar - March 2, 2015 The TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy funds research in science, technology and policy that will lead to a transformation of the world's energy systems for a sustainable future. The seed grants fund faculty research with the potential for high impact. At the Energy Seminar we will discuss the results of some of our Large-Scale Solar funded projects. Solar power generating stations could help us get to an energy system that supports a sustainable future, but very complex, very important barriers must be overcome. Most of the research results in the TomKat Center’s Large-Scale Solar set of research grants could apply to large arrays of photovoltaic cells, which get their energy from sunlight, and to concentrating solar power installations, which convert the sun’s heat into electricity usually via a turbine. Additionally, some of the research could also help with other intermittent renewable sources, like wind. The projects being presented are: • Upconverter-Enhanced Molecular Photovoltaics: Towards Cost-Effective, Broadband Solar Energy Conversion PI: Jennifer Dionne and Michael McGehee • Consuming Renewable Power: Information and Reliability as a Resource PI: Ram Rajagopal • Storing Electricity in the Form of Chemical Bonds: An Alkaline Exchange Membrane Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cell PI: Thomas Jaramillo and Curtis Frank • Effects of Large-Scale Solar Energy on Land and Water Resources in the Southwest United States PI: Chris Field, Noah Diffenbaugh and David Lobell

Quantum Physics Explained

25:34
Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics relating to the very small. It results in what may appear to be some very strange conclusions about the physical world. At the scale of atoms and electrons, many of the equations of classical mechanics, which describe how things move at everyday sizes and speeds, cease to be useful. In classical mechanics, objects exist in a specific place at a specific time. However, in quantum mechanics, objects instead exist in a haze of probability; they have a certain chance of being at point A, another chance of being at point B and so on. Three revolutionary principles Quantum mechanics (QM) developed over many decades, beginning as a set of controversial mathematical explanations of experiments that the math of classical mechanics could not explain. It began at the turn of the 20th century, around the same time that Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity, a separate mathematical revolution in physics that describes the motion of things at high speeds. Unlike relativity, however, the origins of QM cannot be attributed to any one scientist. Rather, multiple scientists contributed to a foundation of three revolutionary principles that gradually gained acceptance and experimental verification between 1900 and 1930. They are: Quantized properties: Certain properties, such as position, speed and color, can sometimes only occur in specific, set amounts, much like a dial that "clicks" from number to number. This challenged a fundamental assumption of classical mechanics, which said that such properties should exist on a smooth, continuous spectrum. To describe the idea that some properties "clicked" like a dial with specific settings, scientists coined the word "quantized." Particles of light: Light can sometimes behave as a particle. This was initially met with harsh criticism, as it ran contrary to 200 years of experiments showing that light behaved as a wave; much like ripples on the surface of a calm lake. Light behaves similarly in that it bounces off walls and bends around corners, and that the crests and troughs of the wave can add up or cancel out. Added wave crests result in brighter light, while waves that cancel out produce darkness. A light source can be thought of as a ball on a stick being rhythmically dipped in the center of a lake. The color emitted corresponds to the distance between the crests, which is determined by the speed of the ball's rhythm. Waves of matter: Matter can also behave as a wave. This ran counter to the roughly 30 years of experiments showing that matter (such as electrons) exists as particles.
