Investment banks are notorious for their highly competitive working environment and long working hours for junior employees. Nevertheless, they continue to be seen as one of the prime destinations for talented Business and Finance graduates, given the excitement of working on large deals and the high pay scale that comes with this job. Investment banking operations tend to be more sophisticated than traditional “deposit taking, credit giving” retail banking services. Investment banks work closely with corporate clients, pension funds, financial sponsors and governments to structure and execute some of the largest transactions that we see in the news. Investment Banking Interviews: How to Tell Your "Story" in 5 Simple Steps

11:40
How to Tell Your "Story" in Investment Banking Interviews in 5 Simple Steps... http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/how-to-tell-your-story-investment-banking-interviews/ (Get the full article and transcript here) In past tutorials we've talked a lot about your "story" in interviews, how important it is, and the mistakes you could make that will cost you an offer. But now I'm going to go beyond that and actually give you a blueprint that will let you tell your "story" effectively and win offers no matter what level you're at. Why Does This Matter So Much? Three reasons: - Your story sets the tone for the entire interview, and a poor first impression is impossible to overcome.- Interviewers often make offer / no offer decisions subconsciously within the first 2-3 minutes, based 100% on your story. - It's easier to fix your "story" than to "fix" your lack of finance/accounting knowledge. We're talking hours vs. weeks. In this lesson, you'll learn how to craft your story to wow your interviewers and land lucrative investment banking job offers. --- WANT MORE FREE TUTORIALS, TIPS & TEMPLATES? How Goldman Sachs Came to Rule the World: Bank, Stock, Finance, Money

59:37
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is an American multinational finance company that engages in global investment banking, investment management, securities, and other financial services including asset management, mergers and acquisitions advice, prime brokerage, and securities underwriting services. It also sponsors private equity funds, is a market maker, and is a primary dealer in the United States Treasury security market. Goldman Sachs also owns GS Bank USA, a direct bank. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869 and is headquartered at 200 West Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, with additional offices in other international financial centers.[3] Due to its involvement in securitization during the subprime mortgage crisis, Goldman Sachs suffered during the 2007-2008 financial crisis,[4][5] and received a $10 billion investment from the United States Department of the Treasury as part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, a financial bailout created by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. The investment was made in November 2008 and was repaid in June 2009.[6][7] The list of former employees of Goldman Sachs who moved on to government positions includes former U.S. Secretaries of the Treasury Robert Rubin and Henry Paulson; current United States Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin; current chief economic advisor Gary Cohn; European Central Bank President Mario Draghi; former Bank of Canada Governor and current Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney and the current Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull. In addition, former Goldman employees have headed the New York Stock Exchange, the World Bank, and major banks such as Citigroup and Merrill Lynch. On November 16, 1981, the firm acquired J. Aron & Company, a commodities trading firm which merged with the Fixed Income division to become known as Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities. J. Aron was a player in the coffee and gold markets, and the current CEO of Goldman, Lloyd Blankfein, joined the firm as a result of this merger. In 1985 it underwrote the public offering of the real estate investment trust that owned Rockefeller Center, then the largest REIT offering in history. In accordance with the beginning of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the firm also became involved in facilitating the global privatization movement by advising companies that were spinning off from their parent governments. In 1986, the firm formed Goldman Sachs Asset Management, which manages the majority of its mutual funds and hedge funds today. In the same year, the firm also underwrote the IPO of Microsoft, advised General Electric on its acquisition of RCA and joined the London and Tokyo stock exchanges. 1986 also was the year when Goldman became the first United States bank to rank in the top 10 of mergers and acquisitions in the United Kingdom. During the 1980s the firm became the first bank to distribute its investment research electronically and created the first public offering of original issue deep-discount bond. Robert Rubin and Stephen Friedman assumed the Co-Senior Partnership in 1990 and pledged to focus on globalization of the firm and strengthening the Merger & Acquisition and Trading business lines. During their reign, the firm introduced paperless trading to the New York Stock Exchange and lead-managed the first-ever global debt offering by a U.S. corporation. It also launched the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI) and opened a Beijing office in 1994. Also in 1994, Jon Corzine assumed leadership of the firm as CEO, following the departure of Rubin and Friedman.[19] Another momentous event in Goldman's history was the Mexican bailout of 1995. Rubin drew criticism in Congress for using a Treasury Department account under his personal control to distribute $20 billion to bail out Mexican bonds, of which Goldman was a key distributor.[20] On November 22, 1994, the Mexican Bolsa stock market had admitted Goldman Sachs and one other firm to operate on that market.[21] The 1994 economic crisis in Mexico threatened to wipe out the value of Mexico's bonds held by Goldman Sachs. In 1994, Goldman financed Rockefeller Center in a deal that allowed it to take an ownership interest[22] in 1996, and sold Rockefeller Center to Tishman Speyer in 2000.[23] In April 1997, Goldman was lead underwriter of the Yahoo! IPO. In 1998 it was the co-lead manager of the 2 trillion yen NTT DoCoMo IPO.[24] In 1999, Goldman acquired Hull Trading Company, one of the world's premier market-making firms, for $531 million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldman_Sachs Image By Jdarsie11 (Own work) [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Is investment banking competitive? The truth is...

http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker If you have read my book, To Become an Investment Banker, you'll already know that in addition to applying for jobs directly through company websites you can look for job listings through headhunters and recruitment sites. One important thing to remember: although, it might seem more efficient to look for jobs in this way because you are looking at many employers in one go, you should keep two provisos in mind: - Many investment banks only hire experienced hires in this way. For entry level positions and internships many expect you to apply directly through their website. - At the moment, it's an employer's market. There are many highly skilled individuals currently unemployed so in some cases employers will find it more cost efficient not to fill positions through third party recruiters. That said, I recommend using both avenues. Example Usually, an employer will list a job on their website then after a week or so hire a recruitment agent to help them fill that role. My friend who is currently looking for a job in a hedge fund was told this by a headhunter: after seeing a job posted on a hedge fund's website the recruiter approached the hedge fund to see if they needed help filling that role. The answer: "We put that job up four days ago and have so far already received 600 applications". That my friend, is the current market for jobs and Girl Banker® is here to help you navigate it. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker

How Much Effort to Put Into An Investment Bank Application

01:04
http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker How does the graduate recruitment process work for investment banks? This is a very popular question amongst students who want to become investment bankers. The process is very similar across different investment banks and works as follows: 1. An internship application is submitted, usually using a standardized online form (rather than your own stylized résumé/CV). 2. Once your application has been accepted, the interview(s) you are invited to will normally entail all of the following: An aptitude test online or on paper A case study and/or brainteasers A competency based interview A technical interview 3. Accepted to intern in the summer. 4. After the summer internship, you receive a hire letter or a letter stating that you will not be offered a full-time position. The proportion of interns offered full-time contracts varies from year to year and from bank to bank; it is never 100%. Usually banks will recruit a few more people from outside the summer program but at the moment many are not doing this; banks are selecting the best summer interns and that's it, so getting an internship is critical to becoming an investment banker. If you've interned but have not secured a full-time job, you will have a better chance of securing an alternative entry-level position than if you hadn't interned at all, so do not despair. Some banks may not have filled all of their positions from the internship program and will look to fill in those roles with people like you. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker

Asset Management: Industry Overview and Careers in Asset Management

04:45
Asset Management: Industry overview and Careers in Asset Management Asset Management is about managing clients’ investments and providing them with the strategies and expertise that would allow them to achieve their goals and secure their financial future. This video is part of our series dedicated to the different sub-industries in the world of Business & Finance. Our goal is to understand how it functions, what type of services it offers its clients, which are the major players in the field and what it is like to do this for a living. An individual or an institution is likely to approach an asset management firm when their investment income is substantial. In such cases, asset managers are able to offer expertise across a wide spectrum of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, private equity, etc). Moreover, large firms have branches all over the world and are therefore able to offer geographical expertise as well. Given that asset managers closely follow all of these markets, they are able to offer high-quality advice and superior risk-return investments. The large players in the asset management industry are indeed very large. There are several companies whose assets under management exceed $1 trillion. Some of them are pure investment funds (BlackRock, Vanguard, StateStreet, Fidelity), while others are arms of the large banking conglomerates (Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, BNP). The largest firm in the world in terms of assets under management in 2015 was BlackRock. What does the career ladder look like in investment banking? Can you go up faster?

03:06
http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker All newbie front-office investment bankers in both corporate finance and the capital markets start life off as analysts. 'Analyst' is usually a three year stage, 'Associate' is normally a three to four year stage depending on progress and internal politics. 'Associate Director' in a European bank is normally two to three years. 'VP'/'Director' can be as short as two years, or indefinite! Some people never make it to MD. Your emotional quotient (people skills) and your ability to master corporate politics can be critical in making that jump from VP to MD. Can one get demoted? Unfortunately, yes! I have seen two types of demotion: 1. An actual demotion. 2. Role change. Does anyone move up the chain faster than this? Of course. If you are a star performer you can zoom right up to the top in no time. Full article at: http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker/what-might-your-career-look-like-in-investment-banking-the-hierarchy

Why Warren Buffett Keeps Buying Apple and Bank Stocks

27:03
Warren Buffett and his right-hand Charlie Munger seem sweet on the world’s largest company, Apple. But that’s not the only stock his company, Berkshire Hathaway, recently bought. The legendary investor also added to his positions in U.S. Bancorp, Bank of New York Mellon, and Goldman Sachs. But Buffett didn’t just buy. Berkshire also sold some of its position in Phillips 66, Charter Communications, United Airlines, American Airlines, and Wells Fargo. Some of these sales might indicate the investor is moving away from the companies, but others are simply a part of Buffett’s plans to keep his ownership below 10% to avoid certain regulatory hurdles. Should investors be following Warren Buffett into airline stocks, bank companies, and Apple? Industry Focus host Shannon Jones and guest Matt Frankel talk about the individual positions, and explain the importance of really digging in to 13-F filings to get the full picture. This video was filmed on August 20th, 2018. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to The Motley Fool's YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/TheMotleyFool Or, follow our Google+ page: https://plus.google.com/+MotleyFool/posts Inside The Motley Fool: Check out our Culture Blog! http://culture.fool.com Join our Facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/themotleyfool Follow The Motley Fool on Twitter: https://twitter.com/themotleyfool

Understanding Short Selling | by Wall Street Survivor

What is short selling? Join our Fall Trading Contest and win $500 when you practice trading: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/register?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=VideoLink&utm_campaign=FallContest Most people think of investing as buying a stock (or other asset) and making money when its price goes up - but it’s also possible to make a profit when a stock price goes down. This process is called short selling (or shorting). Short selling isn’t all peaches and cream. There are opportunities for high returns, but as usual, these come with high risks. The big risk here is that there is no limit to your losses. When you buy a stock, you can only lose the amount that you invested. But when you short, your losses are infinite because there is theoretically no end to how high a stock’s price can rise. Short selling isn’t for everyone. It requires a lot of time and research, and a desire for high risks and high returns. Short selling is primarily used for speculator looking to make a profit when the market goes down or investing looking to hedge their position. 04 - What is leverage? - easyMarkets - Education

03:25
For more info visit: Easy Forex - http://www.easy-forex.com/gtw/6255274.aspx When most people think about investing they think that they need large amounts of initial capital in order to start. While this may be the case for stocks, bonds and other investments, forex is much more accessible due to the use of leverage. So how does leverage affect your trading? To explain, think of buying a home. You may want to buy a property that is worth one hundred thousand dollars, so you go to a bank to take out a loan or mortgage. The bank requests that you supply twenty percent of the property as a down payment on your loan. So, for twenty thousand dollars, you are now able to enter into ownership of a one hundred thousand dollar home. This is an illustration of leverage in real estate. You have bought the home at a leverage of five to one, since twenty thousand dollars is one fifth of one hundred thousand dollars. One year later the property market has appreciated by fifty percent and you decide to sell the property for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, making a fifty thousand dollar profit. If you had not taken out a bank loan and had used only your twenty thousand dollars to buy a small studio which cost that amount, your total profit after a fifty percent property price increase would have been only ten thousand dollars. Your five to one leverage has allowed you to earn five times more than you would have if you had traded without leverage. Let's see how we can apply leverage to a forex deal. You currently have one thousand Euros to invest and you decide to buy one hundred thousand EUR worth of EUR/USD, at a rate of one point thirty-one thirty. Since one thousand is one hundredth of one hundred thousand, you are using a leverage of one hundred to one. The EUR/USD rate then moves up to one point thirty-one forty and you decide to close your deal, making a ten pip profit. Using the pip formula from the 'What is a pip video,' you can calculate that your total profit is one hundred dollars. If you had not traded with leverage you would have only made a one dollar profit. In fact, depending on your account type and risk preference, you can trade much smaller or larger deal sizes, and use different levels of leverage. It is important that you keep in mind that higher leverage can increase your potential profits, but it can also lead to bigger potential losses. Due to this risk, we encourage traders to plan their trades well by making sure they employ a risk management strategy and keep learning about the market. To improve your trading skills further, you can visit the Learn section of our website where you can explore the rest of our educational tools such as our eBook, and sign up for our online webinars

🔴 Stocks I Own July 2018 - Small Positions 🔴

13:40
Stocks I Own July 2018 - This is the conclusion of my Portfolio update with stocks I own in July 2018 - but this video will cover my small sized positions. In my previous video I mentioned that I evaluated my portfolio, and what I have done now is break down my positions into LARGE, MEDIUM, and SMALL. Small positions are 4% or less each, and comprise of 20% or less of my portfolio. So today we're going to go over my small sized positions, and why I believe in these particular companies. You will see a lot of diversification in this part of my portfolio - this is how I manage risk in my overall portfolio. There are 5 positions in this part of my portfolio, and 2 new stocks I added this last month so stay tuned to the end to find out! Keep in mind that the small positions are just that - small. They don't make up much of my portfolio, but what I've noticed is since they are diversified outside of tech, they help offset my portfolio when tech struggles. Very rarely will I have big red days, unless something like BABA is down a lot - because these other companies make up for the losses. I will continue to add more positions here for even more diversification - perhaps something in the Health Care space will be next. ************************************************************* 🔴 Join the Positive Investing Facebook Group (100% FREE):🔴 https://goo.gl/7iy59f ************************************************************* Equipment used for videos: ✔️ Stock Charting Tool: https://tradingview.go2cloud.org/SH2Ja ✔️ Microphone: http://amzn.to/2zVpWGz ✔️ Lighting Kit: http://amzn.to/2EVbL8t ✔️ Camera: http://amzn.to/2HPaqgT ✔️ Laptop: http://amzn.to/2EUbORQ 🔅Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE to support the channel - it means a lot to me!
