Kok hopes ECRL prioritises local goods, China to buy more palm oil

02:32
Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok has expressed hope that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project will prioritise local resources after the Government announced the project was back on track. Speaking to reporters after attending the Nutrition Seminar - Living Healthy with Malaysian Palm Oil on Saturday, Kok said her ministry is also hoping that the development will result in China making more commitment to purchase Malaysian commodities, especially palm oil and rubber. But he sees the Chinese purchase of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel as a top of the market kind of “trophy” acquisition. Jim also comments on whether a US equity bear market is on the horizon. Buying E Waste Business Opportunities

14:46
E-Waste Commodities are a growing thing with so many scrap metal scrappers starting to pick up electronics to value add to their picking or dumpster diving adventures. Problem is there's very few e-waste buyers and most scrappers don't want to bother shipping boards interstate, so I think there's opportunities for some scrappers to get into buying e-scrap locally. 5 Mistakes Investors Make with ETFs | Fidelity

04:43
In this video, learn about the five biggest mistakes that investors make when buying ETFs, or exchange-traded funds. To learn the basics about ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/etf/overview. To get started investing with ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/etfs/overview To see more videos from Fidelity Investments, subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/fidelityinvestments Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fidelityinvestments Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/fidelity Google+: https://plus.google.com/+fidelity LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fidelity-investments --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let’s talk about the five biggest mistakes investors can make when buying exchange-traded funds. ETFs can be good tools for investors - when used appropriately. But with any investment, there are always things to watch out for. Number 1: Buying the Hot New Thing More than 100 new ETF products launch each year, many of them chasing the latest hot trend. Cloud computing, driverless cars, 3-D printing … you name it, there’s an ETF for that. Buying into the latest hot theme might make you big returns, but take care: These product launches may come after there has been a run up in the market. Buying at the top can be painful on the way down. Number 2: Buying Something You Don’t Understand The only thing worse than chasing the hottest trend is buying something you don’t understand. ETFs have taken institutional strategies and made them push-button-easy for everyday investors to access. Want access to commodity futures? There’s an ETF for that. 300% leverage? 200% short? Interest-rate carry plays? Yes to all. But just because you can buy something easily doesn’t mean you should. All of these funds may be good tools, but only if you know how to use them correctly. Number 3: Thinking All ETFs Are Created Equal Consider China. At the start of 2014, there were more than a dozen broad-based China ETFs. For example, had you chosen PGJ, the PowerShares Golden Dragon China ETF, at the start of the year, you would have lost more than 7% of your money. Had you instead chosen ASHR, the Deutsche Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares ETF, you would have earned a 51% return. Both are “China ETFs.” Both can provide big, diversified portfolios. But ASHR has significant exposure to Chinese Ashares—largely consumer-focused stocks listed and traded on the domestic Chinese market— which performed spectacularly well in 2014. Don’t assume all ETFs are created equal. Just because two ETFs cover the same market doesn’t mean they provide the same exposure or returns. There’s no guarantee which fund will perform better in the future. But if you wanted to invest last year in the growth of the Chinese consumer and the domestic investor base there, a little bit of research would have gone a long way. Number 4: Trading…Just Because You Can Trading is central to ETFs. It’s right there in the name. But just because you can trade an ETF intraday doesn’t mean you should. Emotions are often an investor’s worst enemy. You zig when you should zag; you sell at the bottom and buy at the top. We all do sometimes. The trouble is ETFs make that even easier than traditional mutual funds. ETFs’ intraday liquidity can be great when you need to get into or out of the market quickly. But those situations are rare. Number 5: Only Using Market Orders When you do invest, consider using a limit order versus a market order. Market orders are instructions to buy or sell securities at the best possible price right now. That can work well for the most liquid ETFs, but as you move beyond the top dozen ETFs, you can find yourself getting trades executed at prices you don’t really want. Using a limit order means you agree to buy an ETF at a certain price or below, and sell it at a certain price or above. A limit order puts the control back in your hands and can help you set the price on your terms. Learn from these common mistakes to help avoid making them yourself. Are Commodities a Good Investment?

05:15
http://profitableinvestingtips.com/profitable-investing-tips/are-commodities-a-good-investment Are Commodities a Good Investment? By www.ProfitableInvestingTips.com The looming US China trade war has been put “on hold” according to US Treasury Secretary Mnuchin. Trump tweeted that “China has agreed to buy massive amounts of ADDITIONAL Farm/Agricultural Products - would be one of the best things to happen to our farmers in many years!” However, many are skeptical and you can include Profitable Investing Tips among the skeptics. Our eventual question for our readers will be, are commodities a good investment? But, first a little background. CNBC quotes Moody’s chief economist as saying that the proposed trade agreements are face-saving and lose-lose. China consented to continue discussing measures under which it would purchase more U.S. products in order to reduce the $335 billion annual trade deficit between the two, but no specific dollar number was put forward. Zandi pointed to this as evidence that neither Washington nor Beijing had a plan, nor did either know what it specifically was they wanted from the ongoing talks. "When you get right down to it, what exactly are they going to do? Are they going lower the Chinese-U.S. bilateral trade deficit? It's just not going to happen. They're kicking it down the road because they really don't know what they want," Zandi said. The two biggest US exporters for years have been Boeing and all of US agriculture. But, will China buy another $200 billion in US Boeing jets when it really wants to develop its own aviation industry? We wrote about this in our article about whether the new Chinese passenger jet would hurt Boeing. And, if Boeing gets a substantial increase in its business with China that will probably come with agreements for technology sharing which would hurt Boeing and US exports in the long run. Regarding US agricultural exports there is concern about being simply a commodity supplier to China. A couple of years back we wrote to beware the resource curse of boom and bust cycles. Brazil rode high during its commodity boom and has been licking its wounds ever since. Venezuela bought friends in the Caribbean with discounted oil and now its citizens cannot find milk, diapers or toilet paper in the stores. Beware of the resource curse of boom and bust cycles in commodity dependent economies. The issue with China is that the USA and Europe have exported much of their manufacturing supply chains to China and other nations in Asia. This was initially a good idea because it cut down on production costs. However, the result has been a worsening trade deficit in the USA, loss of jobs, and loss of the skill sets that make manufacturing work. Fixing that situation will take more than getting China to import more jets, corn, soybeans, beef, chicken, and pork products. Are Commodities a Good Investment? Fidelity has a good explanation of investing in commodities. Commodity investing is investing in raw materials that are either consumed directly, such as food, or used as building blocks to create other products. These materials include energy sources like oil and gas, natural resources like timber and agricultural products, or precious metals like gold and platinum. In the case of US exports to China these commodities would be agricultural. The up side to commodity investment is that helps you diversify your portfolio and there is always the potential for substantial profits. Also, commodities over time tend to hold their value making them a hedge against inflation. The down side of commodity investment according to Fidelity is this. Commodity prices can be extremely volatile and the commodities industry can be significantly affected by world events, import controls, worldwide competition, government regulations, and economic conditions, all of which can have an impact on commodity prices. There is a chance your investment could lose value. If commodities can be a good investment, how do you invest? There are ETFs that track precious metals and there are agricultural companies and related companies that will prosper with increased production and increased exports. Monsanto, CF Industries, Mosaic, John Deere, Agrium, ADM, and ADCO are a few of the larger and more substantial choices. https://youtu.be/IL-s8vwFzdo

Could the China Trade Spat adversely affect Gold & Silver Prices?

08:11
http://illuminatisilver.com https://amzn.to/2BI3CCS - US https://amzn.to/2BL1DxH - UK Could the China Trade Spat adversely affect Gold & Silver Prices? Today is Sunday 26th August 2018 and we are very briefly covering the response by China against American Tariff’s and asking the question Could the China Trade Spat adversely affect Gold & Silver Prices? . Last Thursday, the US imposed a second wave of tariffs on Chinese goods worth $16 bn and China responded immediately in kind. The result is that both sides are now imposing 25% tariffs on a total of $50bn worth of each other’s goods in other words a total of $100bn. The US has since threatened a third round of tariffs on an additional $200bn of Chinese goods which could happen as early as September. President Trump also stated, that if necessary, he would place tariffs on $500bn worth of Chinese goods. Our view put simply is that President Trump believes that as China exports more to the US than the US exports to China, then China will be more adversely affected by such measures. This is a complex economic trade area with many factors affecting the outcome, which we shall discuss more within our Inner Sanctum when it is launched. However, one consequence of a poorer China whether through trade or currency devaluation will undoubtedly be a decline in its purchase of commodities, including gold and silver which will have a dampening affect on its price – but we are not at this stage yet. HONG KONG STOCK EXCHANGE PLANS TO BUY LONDON METAL EXCHANGE

01:56
(15 Jun 2012) Hong Kong's stock exchange operator said on Friday it has agreed to buy the 135-year-old London Metal Exchange (LME) for 1.4 (b) billion UK Pounds (2.2 (b) billion US Dollars) as it shifts into commodities to capitalise on regional demand. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited said it has signed an agreement with the LME, the world's largest metals market, to pay 107.60 UK Pounds (166.93 US Dollars) for each of its 12.9 (m) million shares. The LME's board plans to recommend shareholders accept the offer at a meeting expected before the end of July. The Hong Kong bourse's offer follows plans announced earlier this year to expand into commodities, marking a major move away from its slow-growing equities business. Hong Kong Exchanges said the LME has yet to fully the seize the growth opportunity in Asia, especially China, and the deal would provide a platform for significant revenue growth. Even though the LME accounts for 80 percent of global trading in nonferrous metals, "it really has a tremendous amount of room to grow in Asia," said Hong Kong Exchange CEO Charles Li. China, the world's second biggest economy, has a near insatiable appetite for metals, fuelled by its booming economy's demand for everything from cars to computers to skyscrapers. The country accounts for 42 percent of global consumption of nonferrous metals like aluminium, copper, nickel and zinc. Li said the Hong Kong exchange could use the LME to expand into dealing in other metals like iron ore and steel making coal, which are "very, very massively needed in China," as well as other commodity types. The LME purchase would also allow the exchange to develop products denominated in yuan, China's currency, which China is trying to promote greater use of abroad. The LME hosts trading of futures and options contracts worth, on average, 61 (b) billion US Dollars a day or 15.4 (t) trillion US Dollars annually. It's the last open-outcry exchange in Europe, where deals are made by traders huddling together on a trading floor and calling out prices, rather than electronically. The LME also operates 732 warehouses in 14 countries to store the actual metal that backs the contracts traded on its market. A deal with the Hong Kong exchange would pave the way to bring storage sites in China into its network. The takeover still needs approval from Hong Kong Exchange's shareholders and British regulators. It's expected to close the deal in the fourth quarter of 2012. Traders from across the Middle East, India and Pakistan are flocking to Yiwu, known as 'Little Arabia' to buy jewellery and pottery, and a variety of other small commodities in the wholesale markets. Local officials said more than eight-thousand foreigners from more than a hundred countries have settled in Yiwu to trade commercially, and the town has become a beacon for made-in-China Arabic goods, such as ceramics and fashion. The traders are usually young Middle Eastern men sourcing basic products that are unavailable in their home-countries. "Actually it's very huge, you use many days to search everywhere." He said, "But, uh, it's good that they divided every item in one place, otherwise you won't get it. It's a very, very big market." In the past decade, Yiwu has developed from being a small market town, to population of over one and a half million people. Prices in China Exceed U.S. and U.K., Chinese Shop Overseas

03:56
Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Mainland China is seeing a upsurge in people shopping abroad. The Wall Street Journal reported on September 4 that prices of many commodities in China surpass other countries, and it has led to more consumers boycott the purchase. Experts believe the he price difference is caused by high tariffs, deformed trade policy and soaring prices. Prices in China have greatly increased in recent years for basic things such as oil, sugar, fruits and vegetables, meats, etc. People are feeling the hardship. In Shenzhen, masses of people from Hong Kong are leaving, as the prices in Shenzhen are 30% higher than in Hong Kong. Zuo Xiaolei, a Chinese economist, wrote an article called Confusion over China and Thailand's Price Differences. She found that consumer prices in China are generally 30%-40% higher than the average in Thailand, which has prices on the same levels as France and other Western countries, which are cheaper than China. The Wall Street Journal states, Chinese consumers spend nearly $1 more than Americans to buy a cup of Starbucks latte. Cadillac's Hybrid Escalade costs $229,000 in China, but only $73,000 in the U.S. An iPad 2 costs $488 in China, while in the U.S. it's $399. In addition, the price of clothing and other apparel in China are on average 70% more expensive than in the U.S. Xie Tian, Professor at University of South Carolina Aiken Business School: "Chinese tourists to the U.S. find it cheaper to shop in the U.S. than in China, so they come abroad to shop." The Wall Street Journal says the key reasons for price differences are China's high taxes and import duties. Some economists say the more important reason is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime's many unreasonable policies. Xie Tian: "The U.S. transport system is comprehensive and efficient, with minimal hurdles or tolls. There are all kinds of taxes and tolls in China. Gas prices are also higher in China than in the U.S." Some Chinese products are cheaper in the U.S. than in China. Experts say it has to do with China's foreign trade policy. Xie Tian: "This is related to a deformed trade policy. The CCP, in order to earn U.S. dollars, is selling goods or even dumping goods in the West at lowered prices. Even if they lose some profit, they're given export subsidies to support Chinese companies to continue with the model." Xie Tian says the authorities use this export subsidy to benefit themselves and CCP elites, but ordinary people suffer from it. Xie Tian: "First of all, the products they manufacture don't sell at very good prices. Their prices are lowered. Secondly, all of China's foreign exchange earnings become the assets of CCP officials and get stored overseas. So this is actually a kind of exploitation of the Chinese people." More and more Chinese consumers are now boycotting China and it's shocking prices. They prefer shopping abroad online or traveling to shop. Many countries are seeing Chinese people on shopping sprees. It made world headlines earlier this year when mainland Chinese were buying up baby formula in Hong Kong and the UK. China Weakens Dollar By Buying MORE Gold

00:14
A recently released WikiLeaks cable shows that China is converting much of its foreign holdings in gold; far away from the U.S. dollar. A majority of China's gold reserves are located here in the U.S and in some European countries. While the U.S. and Europe have an alternative agenda to dissuade people from viewing gold as an international reserve currency, China's upping their ante. In doing so, China aims to push other countries towards reserving in more and more in gold; leaving the U.S dollar by the wayside. Last week, European business officials announced that China plans to make its currency, the yuan, fully convertible for trading on international markets by 2015. Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of China's central bank, said the offshore market for the yuan is "developing faster than we had imagined" but there is no definitive timetable for making the currency fully convertible. Presently, the yuan cannot be easily converted into other currencies, because of government restrictions. China's gold holdings are small compared to other major economies. It has 1,054 tonnes, the sixth-largest reserves in the world, according to data from the World Gold Council. This only furthers the complications and growing weakness of the dollar. As China is buying tons of gold and the yuan is traded freely, the dollar's dominance is under great pressure to maintain its status as the international reserve currency. These changes could very easily make it much more expensive for our government to borrow money, and to "run perpetual trade and budget deficits." The U.S should prepare for a major wake-up call, because we may not have the #1 reserve currency for long... As a reserve currency, the US dollar is the default for international transactions. If, for example, a South Korean company wants to buy wine from Chile, chances are they will carry out the transaction in dollars. Both companies must then purchase dollars to conduct their business, leading to greater demand. The value of global commodities, such as oil, is also generally demarcated in US dollars. Being a reserve currency allows the US to borrow at low interest rates, as central banks around the world are eager to buy US government debt. "Any country that can finance its expenditures by printing money or selling bonds is essentially getting a free lunch," Aizenman told Al Jazeera. With China's apparent change of heart, that "free lunch" now might come with a hefty tab. Given the massive US trade deficit, average Americans might be sent to the restaurant's kitchen to wash dishes if the dollar loses its status as the world's reserve currency. Many experts suspect other countries will follow China's lead and invest more heavily in gold reserves themselves. The good news for China is that large gold reserves help promote the internalization of its RMB (the official currency of the People's Republic of China). That's just more bad news for the U.S. and the dollar... This further signals how crucial our relationship with China has become. Currently, "ChinAmerica" -- a term for the Chinese/American relationship coined by historian Niall Ferguson -- is the most significant economic relationship in the world. Three decades ago, no one foresaw this shift in dynamics. To learn more, please visit the link below http://tinyurl.com/q2rt2cz

Officials on buying US bonds, rejection of Coca-Cola deal

01:12
(23 Mar 2009) SHOTLIST 1. Wide of Ministry of Foreign Affairs press centre 2. Cutaway of cameras 3. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Hu Xiaolian, Vice Governor People's Bank of China: "Concerning our investment in US bonds, we feel that this is an important part of our foreign exchange strategy and we will continue with this." 4. Officials on stage 5. Journalist with computer 6. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Li Yong, Vice Minister of Finance: "All of us are against trade protectionism but the question of Coca-Cola buying Huiyuan that is more like this: the Chinese government stopped Coca-Cola from acquiring Huiyuan as a result of anti-monopoly laws and this was a result of their ruling. A ruling of this nature is intended to preserve an environment of fair competition in the Chinese markets. This is completely different from trade protectionism." 7. Wide interior of press centre STORYLINE China on Monday said it would continue buying US government debt while paying close attention to possible fluctuations in the value of those assets. Investing in US government bonds was "an important part" of China's foreign exchange strategy, said Hu Xiaolian, who is the vice-governor of the People's Bank of China. Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, she did however confirm that China was concerned with the safety and profitability of US bonds - a statement apparently aimed at concerns that rising debt to fund Washington's stimulus package could spur inflation and weaken the dollar. China is Washington's biggest foreign creditor, holding an estimated one (tr) trillion US dollars in US government debt. A weaker dollar would erode the value of those assets. Hu's comments followed remarks earlier this month from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao that he was "a little bit worried" about China's holdings of US government debt. At the time, he called on the US to honour its commitments, remain credit-worthy and ensure the safety of Chinese assets. China's investments are likely to be a major topic of discussion when Chinese President Hu Jintao meets President Barack Obama on the sidelines of an April 2 summit in London of the Group of 20 major economies called to discuss remedies for the global financial crisis. China has given no indication of any preferred changes to US policy and Vice Governor Hu said China considered US debt a good credit risk, even if market values fluctuated. Analysts estimate China keeps nearly half of its two (tr) trillion dollars in foreign currency reserves in US Treasuries and notes issued by other government-affiliated agencies. That has sparked questions within China as to whether the government should continue to buy Treasuries, as well as debate on how Beijing might leverage that to boost its influence over the global financial system. China's continued purchase of Treasuries helps fund US deficit spending aimed at averting a lengthy recession and helps keeps interest rates low to permit US banks to continue lending. At the same news conference, the vice minister of finance defended China's rejection of Coca-Cola's bid to buy a Chinese fruit juice producer. Regulators cited anti-monopoly concerns, but industry analysts believe Beijing wanted to keep the successful local Huiyuan brand out of foreign hands. However, Li Yong told reporters the rejection of Coca-Cola's 2.5 (b) billion US dollars acquisition offer should not be seen as trade protectionism, but as an attempt to "preserve an environment of fair competition in the Chinese markets". China is a top destination for foreign investment and received 5.8 (b) billion US dollars in February despite a decline amid global financial turmoil. But foreign acquisitions of established companies are still rare and politically sensitive. 250,000 Canadian jobs and livelihoods at risk

BREAKING: China stops buying Canadian canola Late last night, as we got through our 30th hour of debate, it broke that China has now refused to purchase any canola from Canadian producers. Initially it was from just one supplier, Richardson but that has now been expanded to include canola from every Canadian producer. Not only was the announcement late last night about canola very disconcerting to the 45,000 canola producers across Canada, but this morning we also heard that that has been expanded to include peas, wheat and possibly other Canadian commodities. This is a $26 billion market with economic impacts to Canada's economy. This is 250,000 jobs. This is decisions that are going to impact our producers, not in the fall when they harvest next year's canola crop, but this is impacting the decisions that they make right now.

Marc Faber - The Chinese Growth is Unsustainable

04:51
For the latest Marc Faber, go to http://MarcFaberBlog.com - You should gradually accumulate physical gold and silver. If you want to be more speculative, then you should purchase gold exploration companies. If the Federal Reserve starts bailing out more corporations and governments, more bad debt will be on their balance sheets, and that will lead to inflation. The growth in China is completely unsustainable in the long run. It is possible that they could continue it for another half a year. But it is difficult to predict these things. They could put it off for several years. But the longer that they postpone the crisis, the more severe it will be. The next thing to happen is for the governments to go bust. When they do, they will inflate the money and go to war.

The Future Autonomous Bus by Mercedes - Demonstration

02:39
The Mercedes-Benz Future Bus with CityPilot further enhances the attractiveness of the city bus as a means of transport. This above all applies to passengers, but also to drivers and bus operators. All three groups benefit from a revolutionary design and trailblazing technology. The bus becomes one with its environment, both in terms of its exterior and interior design and of the technology employed as it moves along its dedicated line and communicates with its surroundings. The Mercedes-Benz Future Bus with CityPilot is making its first public journey on part of Europe's longest BRT route (BRT = Bus Rapid Transit) in the Netherlands. This links Amsterdam's Schiphol airport with the town of Haarlem. This almost 20 km long route is a real challenge for the Mercedes-Benz Future Bus, as it has numerous bends and passes through tunnels and across junctions with traffic lights. Ten cameras in different systems with a wide range of purposes, long and short-range radar systems, fusion of the resulting data and reconciliation with stored values, networking with traffic light systems and an automatic braking system – these are the technical requirements of the Mercedes-Benz Future Bus with CityPilot for semi-automated driving on BRT routes. The CityPilot is another milestone reached by Mercedes-Benz on the road to autonomous driving. The CityPilot is based on the Highway Pilot of the Mercedes-Benz Actros, however it exceeds the latter's capabilities to meet the needs of its specific area of operation: new functions include traffic light recognition, pedestrian recognition, centimetric precision when halting at bus stops and the ability to drive semi-autonomously in tunnels. In this way the bus becomes one with its environment not only with its design, but also with the technology it uses to move along its line and communicate with its surroundings.
