The 4 Business Growth Strategies To learn more, visit my website at http://www.antheahorvat.com/ So in this video, I want to share with you the four different business growth strategies you can choose to implement in your business. We call it the Ansoff model. So basically the choices for you are, if you want to grow your business, are you going to find more Betty and Bobs in order to sell your product or service to? We call this a market penetration strategy. The second choice that you have is a market development strategy. This is where you take your product or service and whoever you’re selling it to right now, you go and develop new markets in order to sell your products and services. Now, those markets could be new niches for you to go into, or they could be new geographical areas for you to move into. It doesn’t matter. We call that a market development strategy. The third option, the one that most of my entrepreneur clients like to pursue, is the product development strategy. Product development strategy involves developing new products and services for you to sell to clients that you already have. And the final one we call diversification. That’s a lot like starting a new business. It’s where you develop new products and services for new markets. So, which one should you choose for your business? I say to my clients, why don’t you think in a three-month block because three months right now is a really long time, and why don’t you focus on just one of those strategies? That’s right, just one of those strategies. Which one should you choose? Well, the place to start is to do a swat analysis on your business. Go through your strengths. Go through your weaknesses, then the things internal, the things that you can change in your business, the things that you do well, and the places in your business where you have little hold, the things that you don’t do quite so well. Go through your strengths and weaknesses. You want to have great clarity about your strengths in particular. The second thing you need to do is look outside of your business. Look at what’s happening in the world. Look at what’s happening in your marketplace. Look at what’s happening with your competitors. And look for opportunities. You want to match your strengths to the greatest opportunities available to you, and then pick which of those strategies is going to work best for you, and then focus. Focus, focus, focus! I know you’re an entrepreneur. I know you like to create, but I also know that you like to have money in the bank account. So the key to you is to pick the strategy that’s going to work the fastest for you. It might not be the most exciting right now, but it’s going to be the most profitable. So, choose your strategy and focus for the next three months. Rapidly changing nature of global business, external operating environments, manufacturing, wholesale, retailing, logistics, supply chain management, velocity of change in consumer and competitor behaviour, shifts in patterns of work, virtual teams, virtual working, collaboration tools and partnership - relevant to key industries such as financial services and health. 

CONVERGENCE

 We think about convergence of technologies, and of businesses such as information and entertainment companies. But convergence also demands multi-skilled, multidisciplinary teams. People with unusual combinations of experiences and training. CIO and COO industry strategy. Globalisation of every large business, mergers, acquisitions -- all these create new leadership pressures when it comes to sharing information. New blends of products and services. Blurring of differences between different kinds of corporations.

CONNECTIONS
 
Beyond increasingly mobile connections between people, to connections between apparently unrelated ideas and facts. Semantic web. Example: fraud detection in banking using complex data analysis to identify patterns of unusual activity, including unusual interactions between people. Example: detection of viral mutations and new patterns of disease. Example: predicting behaviour of customers through multivariate analysis. All these things require a much more sophisticated approach to data. A recent UK survey showed that in the largest corporations:

•85% allow wireless access
•90% allow remote access
•75% use software as a service / cloud
•44% entrust critical services to 3rd party

CLOUDS

A digital world which is independent of any particular technology, device, platform, operating system. Everything everywhere, all the time. Corporations need to catch up with how their own teams are behaving in their private lives - storing all their e-mail, photos, videos, documents on remote servers owned by organisations like Facebook or Google. 25% of large corporations plan partial migration into the cloud in the next 2 years, 11% in 12 months. This is already a $56bn / year, and will be $150bn by 2013, according to Gartner. As part of the same trends we can expect to see rapid growth in software as a service -- hosted on other company's servers.

CROWDS

 Beyond virtual teams, virtual working and virtual organisations. Innovation in the past has tended to be limited to the capacity of teams inside organisations - even if they are spread across many time zones and sites. Expect rapid growth of crowd-sourcing or open innovation, with the same mindset as Wikipedia or Twitter: harnessing the intellectual power of communities to solve complex problems fast in profitable ways. Cost of innovation is shifting from cost of creating the ideas to the legal costs of protecting them, in a relatively open environment. We have seen widespread use of open innovation in computing, innovation in green technology, and also in health -- for example matching disease to genetic code.

CONTROLS

 Convergence, connections, clouds and crowds - each of these is creating new risks which are increasing dramatically. Corporations can only embrace these four Cs above by also building much more sophisticated controls. Such security needs to be dynamic: responding in the right way according to actual risk, without slowing down and frustrating our management and innovation teams. But we can also use Convergence, Connections, Clouds and Crowds to help find and develop the innovations we need in Controls.Summary of Keynote conference presentation for Ricoh by Patrick Dixon, Futurist speaker and author of Futurewise. Customer service should be your #1 priority for growing your marketing agency. I think this is so often overlooked but it can be a real competitive advantage for your marketing agency. I had someone buy my agency documents and then send me a message telling me it was a rip off. I immediately got offended by their comment because I'm totally sincere and only put out my best stuff so I'd never rip someone off. But, instead of getting pissed off right away, I got to the root of their problem and was able to solve it, and keep this guy as a fan again. When you have a confrontation with a client or hear from a dissatisfied customers think of the big picture. Take time to listen to the whole story instead of getting defensive right away. Remember your intentions for being in business and make sure your account management team knows how to handle situations that may arise. Most of the time, client issues boil down to being a misunderstanding or something that needs further clarification. I think we are usually quick to chalk things up to being a "bad client" when really something got lost in translation. Ultimately, a disgruntled client can do A LOT more damage to you and your agency's reputation. Most of the time this can be avoided by hearing them out and making it right. The analysis on how much money we're spending to generate the traffic and here's what's crazy, most people don't realize this, we generate, let's say a million visitors a month on Neil Patel. Do you know what the cost to get there is with video, production, podcasting, blogging, promotion, ads, link building? $110,000 a month. That's what it averaged out to for 2017. Here are my marketing strategies for 2018. I just bought a blog in the marketing space for a half a million bucks. They get a million visitors a month, and it's cheaper to spend money acquiring people who already have the traffic. So in 2017, I bought Uber Suggest, I think it was around 140 grand. They had very little traffic. I 381 redirected the site, traffic increased and guess what happened? Nothing. I hoped that my traffic would go through the roof, but nothing happened. Uber Suggest was a good acquisition and what I ended up learning from that is, who cares about links? Don't buy anything for the links. Buy it purely based off of traffic and just pay a simple metric. If Uber Suggest has roughly 200,000 visitors per month, I paid a hundred and something; I would have paid 200 grand, the money didn't matter. For a blog that I just spent half a million on, their traffic ranges. On a horrible month, they'll get around 800,000 uniques. In a perfect month, they'll get around, like, 1.2, 1.3 million uniques, and all I'm doing right now is buying as many blogs as possible. My marketing strategy for 2018 is to buy blogs based on of traffic. I look at the top posts that they have and how qualified their visitors are and determine if I can successfully monetize their content. I don't even care if they have revenue. If they don't have revenue, even better. The problem with Search Engine Journal is that they have conferences, they have advertising, and they have contracts for all of it. I don't care for any of that. I just want the traffic. So when you buy all these people for traffic and then you put it into your monetization flow, you can quickly figure out, what is this worth? If I can't make my money back in less than 12 months, I will not buy it. The other marketing strategy that I use when I'm buying these sites is to look for blogs that aren't monetized well. The blog that I ended up buying for half a million bucks, they're not even making three grand a month. If you're not even making three grand a month, that's a good deal, right? They're like; you're going to give me half a million dollars for this? No problem. Another creative marketing strategy I'm doing right now, is trying to buy a really popular marketing tool. I don't want to pay them all the money they're asking for because they want well into the millions, and it isn't worth it. But, I'm trying to work out a deal where I give them X amount of money up front, let's say a million dollars, and then give them a hundred thousand a month over X amount of months or a hundred thousand a year over X amount of years. When I see inefficiencies in sites, I figure I can purchase them and double the revenue because they aren't optimized for traffic or conversions. So buy it for what it's worth, optimize it, and then use the profits to pay them out continually. That way you're not using all of your money and the business is paying, you may have spent a bit more money, but personally, you don't have to spend as much money, and that's my marketing strategy for 2018. My goal is to spend at least $5 million acquiring businesses purely based on their traffic. What are the best ways to grow your professional services firm? I'd like to start first with increasing market penetration. This is using the same services, offering the same services to the same target audience you're currently offering. This is the easiest one to do and involves the least amount of risk because you're not going after new services or new markets. However, it can be challenging unless you can find a benefit, a new way of marketing or a new benefit you offer to increase that. The second way is to develop new markets. This is a very common one. You are the same service you're currently offering but you offer it to a new market. That can work. The key difference here is that you're adding more risk by going into a new market where you're not known. If you can choose a market that's similar to the old one, where you can get some cross-referrals, that helps the process and removes the risk. The third strategy is to develop alternate distribution channels. That's the same product, same offer, but a different way of doing it. Sometimes people have gone with online strategies or partnering with an association to offer their services or even finding someone who offers similar services and packaging yours. The key is it's the same services, same target, but you found another way to address the market. The fourth strategy is to develop new services. This is something firms do a lot and comes pretty naturally to firms, but it is a relatively...there's some risk involved with it. So it's not without its risk to develop those services. It keeps the risk less if there's services that are already desired by your current clients, that helps reduce the risk in this strategy. And that gets us to the fifth strategy, which is new services to new markets. This is by far the riskiest strategy and it's actually one that a lot of firms use. The keys to this is make sure you understand that new market well, as best you can before you enter it as well as the new services, try it on a small scale and then expand.
