There are three degrees of brand loyalty: Awareness Preference And Insistence Marketing communication revolves around the three. Customers must know a product exists. Once they do, we need to convince them it is better than competitor products so they can develop a preference. In the best-case scenario, customers who prefer the product will understand its features well, which will develop informational awareness, and that will make them able to explain its benefits to other customers. Continued purchasing of a product, brand insistence, is the goal of promotional communication. It occurs when customers link a product with their own lifestyle. The feeling of personal connection turns repeated customers into raving fans.

So here, we list down a few examples of stars that have gone all out to promote their film and have tried to create a stronger and direct connect with the audience: Raees- For Raees, Shah Rukh Khan did something that he hadn't done since his stardom in 1992: travel by train! A source was quoted saying "Shah Rukh Khan has not travelled by train since his stardom in 1992. He has been longing to do so for a while. For Raees, Excel Entertainment has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the journey goes smoothly. Of course, Shah Rukh can't travel on the train like an ordinary man. There will elaborate security arrangements, plus Shah Rukh will be accompanied by the Raees Team. Kahaani - You must have noticed posters that say 'Missing' with a hand-sketched picture of a man called Arnab Bagchi in your neighborhood. The poster was a part of a promotional campaign for Kahaani, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, and starring Vidya Balan. The missing element stays true to the movie's story about a seven-month pregnant protagonist Vidya Bagchi)who arrives in a strange city, looking for her missing husband. The first look of the movie conveyed to the audience what to expect, and raised a sense of eagerness to know more. Ghajni- We all know that Aamir Khan loves to find weird and wacky ways to showcase his next big movie. The best one we have seen till date among all his promotions is for the movie Ghajini. For Ghajni, the entire staff of the Big Cinemas across India pulled off the Ghajini look. It felt like watching an army of clones set to kill the evil guy. And of course the credit goes to the brainchild Mr Perfectionist Khan. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara- The entire cast of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara took a road trip, starting from Mumbai to Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, and finally ended in Delhi. Loudly and clearly giving out a message about their movie- Travel, friendship and adventure. We are sure the actors bonded well with each other and connected well with the fans too. Daawat-e-Ishq- The movie may be about finding romance, but since Biryani was involved in the lead role, the stars went all out to make food the real hero. Food, being the soul selling point of the film, the duo went on a foodie trail PAN India and promoted their movie while gobbling some really local authentic dishes. Indeed a treat for the actors and the crew. Tamasha- The movie was about a journey, about reaching a destination, about going with the flow and what better way to promote by doing media rounds while travelling. The lead pair has ditched their flight tickets and travelled in a train. They boarded the train from Mumbai which was heading to Delhi along with the director and the fans chased them at the railway station. Chance pe Dance- Movie about luck, about struggle, about certain harsh facts of life... For their film Shahid and Genelia actually spent the night in a car because Shahid’s character lives out of a car in the movie. Imagine actually reliving a scene from the film in real life. How cool is that? 2 States- A wedding in the house!! That’s how the makers of 2 States decided to promote the film and were pretty successful in creating buzz around the same. This was one of the most dramatic promotions done on the social media. Alia Bhatt supposedly tweeted her wedding invite to promote her movie. It was an indeed a unique way to cast a spell on the fans and ensure high ticket sales. What is your understanding of the promotional mix? Promotional mix is a combination of the various promotional strategies put together. Usually the following four promotional strategies are used for bring about the promotional mix. - Advertising:Companies pay for advertising where in the communication targeted to persuade the potential customers to incline towards the product or service as against the competitors’ products or services. Advertising will be more effective when it is targeted towards the potential customers who will be more likely to purchase the product or service. Advertising aims to let the customer know about the name and benefits of the products or service and work towards creating a goodwill and positive image. It also encourages the customers to get more educated about the product or service. Usually this is carried out through the following media: - Ambient - Directory listings - Direct mailing - Internet - Movies - Office front or window display - Outdoor - Point of sale - Press - Radio - Stationary - Television - Personal Selling: Personal selling is carried out by reaching the prospective customer in-person and giving them a presentation of the product or service, thereby creating awareness of the product or service. This is usually carried out through salespersons. The sales person thus acts as an ambassador of the company and plays the following roles. - Be informative - Be persuasive - Service provider - Sales promotion: The customer is provided with short-term incentives or activities that persuade the customer to choose the product or service over that of competitors’. This promotion strategy is a “below the line” strategy. This form of sales promotional activities are targeted towards final buyers, business customers, wholesalers, retailers and the team of sales force. Few examples of the promotional activities are: - Business promotions - Consumer promotions - Sales force promotions - Trade promotions - Public relations: Public relations is aimed to maintain deliberate, planned and sustained effort to create and maintain relation between the organization and its public. It strives to maintain good relations with all the stakeholders/public through publicity, building a positive corporate image, ensuring that the negative events/rumors/stories are strategically handled. This ensures that the customer is satisfied and becomes a source of referrals. Usually the following various tools are used in public relations. - Annual reports, newsletters, magazines - Brochures - Community events and sponsoring - Distribution of news through media. - Event organization through news conferences, product launches and grand openings - Favourable speeches and presentations. This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). These two tribes have very different thoughts when it comes to innovation in music and the idea of listening to your fans. 4. Create Work That Excites Fans A musician today has two jobs; creating and communicating. Music Business Institute is primarily about teaching the latter rather than the former because we have to assume you know how to create exciting work. Creating is about honing your craft as a musician. Communicating is about learning how to market and sell what you have created. It's why we call it the Music Business. Music + Business. 5. Identify Fan Type OK, by this point you know that building lists, developing relationships with them, learning what they want and creating work that excites them is important. The 'fan ladder' looks to move someone from just being mildly interested in your music to where they will buy everything you ever produce (concert tickets, recordings, merchandise). You want to move them from being a 'suspect' to a 'super fan' or "true fans". 6. Empower Super Fans Successful artists always have their own small army of super fans. Beliebers (Justin Bieber), Swifties (Taylor Swift), Little Monsters (Lady Gaga), Lovatics (Demi Lovato) and Smilers (Miley Cyrus) are all examples of Super Fans. 7. Promote Work Using Events The final step is about promoting your work using events. Firstly events they create excitement around your music.
