Early Years Tactile Resources

06:12
This video provides an overview of the introduction of tactile illustrations and early tactile graphics. It stresses the importance of introducing books and print (braille) to children with visual impairment as early as you would for a sighted child. There are three clear stages. 1. Encouraging the tactile skills in identifying everyday objects 2. Introducing these objects into book format 3. Changing objects to textures and teaching representation It is estimated that 80% of our learning comes through what we see, much of this learning in the early years is ‘incidental’ learning that comes through observation of the world around us. Many things a child learns are not explicitly taught but noticed and copied. Clearly for the child with visual impairment this ability is severely reduced or not available at all. Giving meaning to everyday tasks and experiences via tactile exploration is vital if a child is to develop cognitively. Exposing a young child with VI to many different textures and objects provides the opportunity for them to build up a ‘memory bank’ of touch experiences. Placing these tactile experiences/ objects into book format allows the development of book handling skills- which way up, turning pages, reading left to right. These protocols are taught to give meaning to the task and in readiness for more formal learning later on. As their tactile exploration skills develop it is important to introduce context and spatial concepts, eg a toy house or car is not the same the size or feel of the real thing. The thermoform images provide a bridge between the real object and a tactile illustration, another stage in preparing a child to read information provided in picture form. It is always important to remember that learning to interpret tactile illustrations is not an automatic skill but requires practice and support. Supporting English Language Learners in the Preschool Classroom

07:25
Although many preschool classrooms now include children whose first language is not English, teachers may find it challenging to effectively support young children with limited English skills. In e-clip #8, Dr. Ann Anderberg stresses the importance of continuing to support first language development in children, and gives suggestions for assisting these young learners in their acquisition of English. When teachers and parents engage in practices that support oral language development, children can develop strong language skills in both their first and second languages. Teaching English to Kids in 5 Fun Steps

04:01
Need help? You can start learning a whole lot more about how to teach English to kids with ESLinsider's advanced course. The advanced course goes into detail especially in regards to classroom management which is often a challenge when you teach kids. It also offers feedback, support and interaction with a real human which is not common in many of the cheaper courses. About the video: These are 5 fun steps to teaching kids English. In this video you'll see a method for teaching kids English using the "PPP" (Presentation, Practice and Production) style of lesson planning. You will learn how to teach English to children and much of this method can also be applied to teaching other levels too. Such as adults. But the "PPP" style is best for low level learners. Also in this video you will learn some fun games and activities that you can add to your lesson. These will make your lessons more fun and more effective if used correctly. This video was filmed in Busan, South Korea. This was a kindergarten class. I suspect the students here were about 5 years old or so. This method or style of teaching ESL will be effective from kindergarten through elementary school for the most part. After A While, Crocodile | + More Super Simple Songs for Kids

01:05:15
Hi there! Yeah, you ^_^. Thanks for watching! We're happy to share this collection of kids songs and nursery rhymes, starting off with a super simple goodbye song, "After A While, Crocodile." Let us know what you think in the comments ^_^. In case you're wondering, here's a little bit of information about the differences between alligators and crocodiles: - Alligators have u-shaped snouts. - Crocodiles have more v-shaped snouts. - Alligators' upper teeth often show when the mouth is closed. - Crocodiles' upper and lower teeth show when the mouth is closed. - Alligators generally live in fresh water. - Crocodiles generally live in salt water or water that is brackish (has more salt than typical fresh water.) -Neither make very good pets! Here's the lyrics to "After A While, Crocodile": See you later, alligator. After a while, crocodile. Bye bye, butterfly. See you again next time. See you later, alligator. After a while, crocodile. Bye bye, butterfly. See you again next time. See you again next time. Warm-Up Activities - "Teacher Says"

01:14
http://www.course.eslinsider.com Get certified to teach English to kids with this online TEFL course: This is a fun warm-up activity for teaching very young children. It would probably work for some up until age 10. It works best for the very young and low level students. It's good for teaching body parts and commands. "Teacher Says" is a super fun activity to do with young kids. It works especially well with Kindergarteners to about 3rd grade. When their level gets to high it becomes boring since the kids can follow along and understand. Kids love this game and it's a way also to practice commands, body parts and basic classroom exercises. This video was filmed in a kindergarten in Sapadong, Korea. _____________________________________________________ ESLinsider serves up fresh resources for ESL teachers: how-to videos, online TEFL courses, interviews with ESL teachers in Asia, ebooks and a blog.
