You might look at David's Natural Toothpaste. It's less expensive and comes in recyclable packaging. Also Elate cosmetics comes in bamboo packaging and seeded paper packaging as well.

This is great! Yes, please. We need more of this. <3

I have an honest question. About the toothpaste, you explained that some of the ingredients pollute the water. So what about cleaning products? The ones that we used to clean the toilets, the bathtub, etc?
murtkitty (8 days ago)
Isn't castor oil from snakes...? I always assumed that means it's not vegan?
Hina (10 days ago)
I would love to see a video on a zero waste beauty routine and product recs!

It's sad when you know that it is the government that doesn't recycle their population's waste, which is ridiculous because it isn't impossible at all, they just don't concern about it. But for example, in Sweden, the recycling program is so efficient that they have to buy other countries' waste to keep going on recycling at a decent amount. Btw I love, when I eat outside, when the place I go let to the customers the possibility to bring their own containers. I think it should be the case in any takeaway restaurant (plus they should use more sustainable containers too lol). Personally, I'm a huge fan of reusable, high quality bento boxes, they are so practical and cute ! And on top of this, if you choose wisely, they are sustainable like hell (never got one broken or stained). They are mainly made of plastic but it is very resistant. And I guess some are made from Bamboo fiber or if you buy traditional ones, they are made from wood with a food grade varnish. I don't think we should ban plastic anyway, but we have to produce a more sustainable, high standard plastic and ban any single use one (it's improving slowly, in Belgium they have banned Q-tips recently and they plan on forbidding plastic straws too). When it comes to plastic, the chosen component is very important too : there are some kind of plastic that are better recycled than others depending on the grade.

I just got a set of foldable aluminum straws on Amazon. So affordable and now I keep one in every handbag and in the glove box of my car. 👌🏻
Cassandra Bankson (11 days ago)
Chelsea Pearl oh my God C girl, we are on the same wavelength! I keep them everywhere LOL! Love you, and let’s totally have a smoothie day together and use our use reusable straws!
Dawn Mariesa (11 days ago)
but are these toothpastes actually beneficial for dental health?
Rachel Rigsbee (11 days ago)
Hey girl! I think in the algae part of your video you were explaining eutrophication and it was awesome and informative! However, algae doesn’t need oxygen to survive, because it’s a plant and makes energy using photosynthesis, therefore releasing oxygen. The reason algal blooms are so problematic is because 1) the dense population of one species will use up a majority of the minerals needed for their survival quickly as the exponential phase of growth reaches carrying capacity. Then, the algae will die. That congregation of dead algae attracts aerobic bacteria which decomposes the algae and THAT is what causes oxygen deletion in an ecosystem. 2) along with (1) the algae resides at the top of its body of water and that blocks light for plants underneath it to enact photosynthesis It is true that sometimes at night, plants may build up oxygen due to the lack of sunlight, or close their stromata on dry or hot days. This means the will do something called photorespiration where to prevent the harmful products from light dependent reactions, they use oxygen in the Calvin cycle instead of CO2 to literally just do it. However, it uses energy and doesn’t store it so it isn’t ideal for the plant

Lush actually has a lot of package free products now, and the skincare is quite nice! (wasn't expecting to love it so much) I've been super inspired to live low-waste recently as well! I've gotten reusable cotton rounds & un-paper towels from Marley's Monsters on Etsy and love them. I've also been experimenting with DIYing a lot of things between beauty products and plant based alternatives and I can't say that I've disliked any of it. I also just started using a shampoo bar from Aquarian Bath on Etsy (they are package free and deliver in paper) and it's going well so far considering I have extremely dry, bleached, damaged, wavy hair.
df julesful (12 days ago)
Thanks for the heads up about Lush's shampoo bar! Already dealing with hairloss don't need anymore of that

Young living has good all natural toothpaste and makeup try them out!!! Also sand cloud is a awesome company they have eco friendly products, recycled clothing and some money from what you buy goes to saving marine life and fishes! #savethefishes

Zero waste beauty brands I found are dab herb makeup on esty and elate cosmetics is really good too and they use seed paper so when you get your product it comes in seed paper that you can plant into flowers. 😁 Also a makeup brand I really like is Aether beauty and they sell eyeshadow palettes.
Tracy N (12 days ago)
I use Dr Bronner's peppermint toothpaste. It's vegan and cruelty free. 🌱🐡🦈
Anna Ponton (12 days ago)
Speaking of recycling skin care bottles and cosmetics - I’m looking for a company that will take things like that including tubes of toothpaste. I’m finding out that my local recycling just throws away things like cosmetic containers and other small plastic and glass containers. 😭

I am starting to become for eco friendly, so it’s nice to see more videos about zero/low waste products. Also quick acne question, I have been trying to figure out if I should use a retinol or salicylic acid for my skin. I am only 18, so I think I should not be on a retinol, but I would like to hear from you. Thank you!

I saw your comment on Alyse’s red light therapy video, and I was disappointed in her reply... I am so glad that you always put in the time and effort to research before recommending something to your audience, instead of blindly following whatever trends pop up. I always trust your advice and sometimes research topics independently, and I thank you for that

S'well makes these travel mugs that also come with a stainless steel straw so it's good for hot and cold beverages and it absolutely changed the game for me because now I only need that and a water bottle in order to go about my day. Got mine at Target, highly rec to people who enjoy hot coffee/tea AND cold beverages throughout the day!!

Toothpaste is not even necessary, I've been using DIY powder toothpaste for years and it works very well. You can mix into a small glass container (like an old cream jar) equal parts of baking soda and clay (white or green, doesn't matter), and a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil for freshness. You dip your wet toothbrush in the powder and brush your teeth. It doesn't lather but you get used to it. No packaging and no harmful chemicals at all!
Fenree (13 days ago)
YES!! I would love a "low waste" beauty/makeup routine! ♥
Fact I love the most about your videos: you are so well spoken!!!! 😍😍 tell me how girl! You truly have a talent for communication
Amber West (13 days ago)
Can you please do a science video on body acne and product recommendations? 😊 I’ve heard you say many times that acne on the face, chest, and back are all different but haven’t heard you go in depth for the chest and back.

Make up eraser is a great alternative to make up wipes! One lasts for years and eliminates so much waste! I love mine!

I just wanted to add my two cents. Two of the biggest things you can do are 1) Purchase a green vehicle (Hybrid of electric) and 2) Consider buying green certificates for the electricity you use on the grid that isn't clean (Google them to see how they work; basically you can offset "dirty" energy with the green certificates by using "clean/sustainable" energy). I am saving to buy a full electric vehicle and already buy green certs.

Loving these new videos, thanks so much! Would love a zero waste beauty routine, also curious what hair products you'd recommend

Michal Glazer-Eytan (13 days ago)
Please do Zero waste videos!!! (beuty routine and beauty product). BTW I use a toothpaste in a glass jar because every tube of plastic is still plastic (even if it says it's receycled)

Thanks for posting :) Yes rosemary is very good for hair by the way (confirmed by a dermatologist on YouTube). The only problem I have with the shampoo bar is oils usually don't agree with my skin :( You might like Trash is for Tossers. Not much on YouTube anymore but she has a package free company and has some great ideas on her channel. Best wishes.

Hey Cass! Great video. Rhian HY has a video w/ great reusable products she's switched to. From what I heat, you r supposed 2 cut off smaller pieces of the shampoo bars and use just those so they don't get funky. Plus you could keep a piece in ur backpack, bathroom, etc. Hope that helps!! Xo
johana ochoa (13 days ago)
Genial video 💗💗☺
cailee grace (13 days ago)
Ive switched out so much such as zero waste items such as toothpast, skincare, hair products and house hold cleaner and eco friendly sponges 🧽 aswell as jars and reuseable containers
peacenlovegirl1 (13 days ago)
One of the things I did is buy a set of campng dishes, cups, forks and spoons for 4. Reusables. If go for the beach or bbq etc....
Amaika16 (13 days ago)
I love that you are aware of how awful plastic is! And that you love the science of it! I am a conservation biologist so I love this stuff and telling people about alternatives. Love all the things you shared. Just a reminder... don't feel like you need to go out and buy special zero waste items if the usual things you use are still ok. Shelbi just did a zero waste regrets video, so It's on my mind. For example don't feel that you need a mini bamboo spork if you can bring the usual metal silverware from your kitchen with you. All for lightweight and travel things but its so easy to get caught up in consumerism because you want to support awesome companies. Also if beauty and skincare products are safe and friendly to the Earth they are probably going to be good for your body as well. 😍
Hope Kitten (1 day ago)
I’m surprised how little people are concerned with the dangers of plastic

Great video! I like shampoo bars except I'm not a fan of coconut oil. It tends to clog pores! Most shampoo bars make my hair weighed down. I would like to know if anyone knows a shampoo bar that does not contain coconut oil or make the hair feel heavy and unclean?
lillili77 (12 days ago)
I use the ethique shampoo bars and absolutely love them. There's a couple that don't havr coconut oil. Ethiqueworld.com
Tiahna Grace (13 days ago)
+ThECheShire CaT I definitely will. It's just hard to recommend stuff without coconut oil because so many things have it.
ThECheShire CaT (13 days ago)
+Tiahna Grace Thanks! If you think of anything else, let me know! 😊
Tiahna Grace (13 days ago)
+ThECheShire CaT How nice. Hopefully, the sample works out, or you at least get an idea of what other qualities you want in a shampoo bar. I tried the apple cider vinegar trick too, and didn't like it either. Hopefully the shampoo bar works out for you.
ThECheShire CaT (13 days ago)
+Tiahna Grace I found a honey shampoo bar on etsy so far. The maker is sending me a sample.. It has coconut oil in it though soooo.... Lol! It's kinda hard finding the right one. I was reading how over time it leaves build up in the hair. Using acv helps with that once a week. It's just...acv leaves my hair smelling like vinegar and also makes it weighed down feeling later in the day. Sigh...
Anna Flores (13 days ago)
I should really look into these products.
