On 12 June 2014 the Directive on Markets in Financial Instruments (MiFID II) and the Regulation on Markets in Financial Instruments (MiFIR) completed EU legislative procedures. MiFID2 and MiFIR aim to make financial markets more efficient, transparent and secure. In addition, the European Parliament is currently examining proposals to regulate Money Market Funds (MMFs) which are an important source of short-term financing for banks, private companies and governments. Will the new laws build on the creation of Banking Union and further protect the integrity of the European financial markets?
