The RX580 is HERE!!... unfortunately it was met with a lackluster welcome since most people are far more interested in VEGA coming out later this year...

Is the AMD RX580 any good? RX580 vs RX480 vs GTX1060 | JayzTwoCents
“No one should be buying a $1200 card anyway, that shouldn’t exist.” Welcome to graphics card prices in Canada, where 16GB of RAM cost $150+, and the simple GTX 1060 cost $400, while the 1080 Ti cost $1200. Fast forward to the RTX 2080 Ti, which I’ve seen priced at $2300. It’s sooooo easy to build a computer when an Intel i7-7700k cost $450 alone. Welcome to Canada, where your basic budget for a basic gaming rig should be about $2000-$3000......
I got a RX 580 8 gb today, and this sucker get 1500 Mhz on GPU adn 2250 on memory without adding any power of voltage at all. So impressed!
MSI RX 580 8 gb Armored OC Edtion. -- Okey, I had to add a little power to it but now its stable. <--EDIT
Upgraded from the R9 390... dont ask why, seems like a stupid move, and it sort of is but I had to do it. Bethesda broke 3 titles for me with the 390 and nothing could fix it, and they refused so I got tired of fighting them and bought a new card that I kinda knew wouldnt have issues.
Mine runs with +37 mV and +50% (1500/2250 - This is really impressive on this card apparently with that little voltage added.)on the powerlimit in Afterburner, I get awesome temps, 50 - 68 C... and real solid performance. Just a shame it was a bit expensive. Its like a 100 dollars more than in the US due to taxes and over all price madness. None is getting them for MSRP in the US either so... or rarely anyway. Unless its a sale.
+Henning Yes, been an issue ever since Fallout 4 patch 1.3, they added more gameworks features and something went bad. Fallout 4 get rainbow pixels as I call them. In Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 the world goes black at random. Not the UI or map or anything, just the world.
And when I tell people they just blame me and my card and AMD drivers, people dont believe me, I've been testing this issue for over 2 years. I know its not my card. Its the engine. Or well, I suspect it has something to do with the memory modules on the 390 but it only happens in their games based on the latest 2 iterations of the Creation engine. All other games works just fine.
But now I got the RX 580 and no issue. I had some artifacting in Fallout 4 but that was the overclock, I gave it some extra power and it was then fine.
Tell me how it goes for ya on https://twitter.com/RainbowPixelsQQ
Which one should I get? Here, in Mexico, both the GTX 1060 6 GB and the RX 580 8 GB have the same price (only a 1060 model costs $ 15 dollars less), I have a 5 years old 500W PSU from CoolerMaster and for what I got the 580 consumes more energy, will the additional 2 GB of VRAM help me in the future and also the temperatures? Does the stigma of AMD's hot video card persist? the temperature here in the summer is approximately 89 F (32 C) and 66 F (19 C) in the winter, thank you.
Either have proper case airflow or play without the side panel off. otherwise the hot air just builds up until everything gets too hot. Same thing happened to me on a 1060 as well. I have 0 intake fans and 1 exhaust lol. Hopefully you have a better setup. 2 intake fans at the front and 1 or exhausts at the top or back should do nicely.
i love my nitro plus le 1500 on the core all day no crashes and the memory omg i can 9000mhz effective with is like 2254 in msi after burner bummer is shes a power hog i got 2 and my 750 watter aint enough :( 1500 seems to be about where i can keep both cards stable never really see any temps over 75c i hear max temp is 86 so thats not bad for some air cooled 580 running high clocks
Haha same 1500mhz even on lower voltage than stock. Strix here. Only problem is if I have my side panel on the hot air in there just becomes too much and things get loud and hot before eventually shutting down. I gotta sort out some fans for airflow but I would like to do that in a new case
jay my man I got a rx580 speaicl edtion one and got a 4k monitor got it plugged in with the display ports and was woundering would that have any performance hits or not info would be much appractiated thanks
My GTX 660 TI has 2GB on a 192 bit bus.
The GTX 1060 has 6GB on a 192 bit bus.
The RX 580 has 8GB on a 256 bit bus. <--- Just got this on eBay for $180 with shipping.
2x RX 580 in Crossfire perform better than a single GTX 1080 which is more expensive.
Rx 580 is currently pulling ahead because of the driver optimizations, check the recent hardware unboxed video on that. It also has 8gb vram, which is more future proof, and you can get a freesync monitor without spending extra money for the technology, unlike Nvidia's gsync. I'd get the rx 580 8gb if I were you.
+Phil Vdm I have 3 displays, a 2k and 2 1080's. I usually only use 2 of them though to save some power. And I agree with the way Intel and NVidia have been lately, while they for the most part tend to have slightly better stuff I'm always reading how something they send out is less than they report (like Nvidia's cards having less clock speed or ram or something on the 900 or 1000 series a while back)
+Sessio I'll probably end up same way and give amd a go. Never worked with amd. But I do think amd has recovered massively in terms of competition, ever synce the ryzen chip came out. Nvidia and intel may be a bit better, but they are more expensive and nvidia made flops already with the rtx. And rumour has it that the updates of nvidia aren't going so well either for older gen cards. What display are you using btw?
+David Smith well aware of that lol, gotta love when competitors 2 up each other. Wasn't comparing the two at all in any case I was just stating my current chip was intel so from that experience I wasn't sure where to go (it was my only pc I built myself) and I was leaning towards getting a new AMD chip but didn't have too much information as I'd never owned one. Then stated I was going to get a ryzen. If that's what you mean. Any personal opinion on the matter? Upgrading from a i7 4770k
For anyone curious of crossfire dual rx480s... I have ryzen 2600x with 2x 480s, it's great for games that support CF. Not all titles support CF though. Otherwise if you have one 480 or 580, and you want moooore FPS, sell it and get a Vega or 1070 or 1080.
But two strix 480s do look BA in the case though.
hey jay i just got an gtx10606gb was running a radeon hd7770 ghz edition the difference in performance is very little could it be that my cpu just cant keep up to it i7 920 3.9ghz tripple channel ocz asus rampage gene
Wrong way around lol. AMD cards do generally better on dx12 and Vulkan while NVIDIA cards like dx11.
weird that assassin's creed odyssey got bundled with the RX 580 when it's terrible optimisation leads to bad performance on both the GTX 1060 and RX 580. The GTX 1060 does a lot better at that game though.
gtx 1060 is better for vulkan games but rx580 is better at everything else, watch some video from SkuezTech or NJTech and watch rx 580 8gb vs gtx 10606gb and see fps, vram and temperature on games that you play, hope you will choose properly :D
Man, watching this a year later makes me realize I lucked out really hard with my RX480 8GB. I just have the mid-range XFX with the blower fan style, and I have that thing running at a constant 1425 MHz overclock. Obviously that's still not as good as 1500 or 1535, but for such a standard model, I must have done reasonably well with the silicon lottery.
I don't get the point of Sapphire releasing RX 580, I have Nitro+ OC RX480, it comes 1455MHzdefault.It goes to 1480MHz without voltage tweaks. Only problem is Sapphire TRIXX app doesn't stick with DX 12 games and crashes when OC'ed.
Not really comparable... If you search on used sites for a new RX 480 8GB, you can easily pick one up for 200-250 euros, while with that price you can only buy a 1060 3GB so it's not really comparable. I myself picked up an MSI RX 480 8GB new for 250 euros. Now his price is only 225 euros, new. GTX 1060 6GB around 250 euros, used and hard to find.
Hey Jay I have an RX 580 with a single cooler, yeah you heard that right. Its the MSI RX580 single cooler which I got a great price on from newegg for $200 however I would like to switch to a dual fan cooler. Is this possible?
got one of the standard editions, it came with shot bearings in one of the fans so they shipped me a new set, but they accidentally sent the led editions lol. so between that and the fact that mine sat stable at 1500/2250 I basically got a limited edition for 50$ less.
$250? I paid $350 for my XXX two weeks ago. WTF??? Also, what pisses me off is when I plug my 4K TV into it as a second monitor so I can watch movies on my big screen, it crashes into static after a few minutes and I have to unplug it. I can't seem to find any cause of this or Solutions on the internet. Really frustrating!
RX 580 consumes around 180-185w. Same performance as GTX 1060 but requires 50% more power. If you have free sync monitor may be yuh would consider. But most likely no. Higher electricity bills more heat generated shorter lifespan. Not really a upgrade considering the drawback of hugely wattage consumption. Same as a GTX 1080! Totally unacceptable!
ryzen 2700x or if you only game ryzen 2600x its only $200 but has 6 cores/12 threads and way more cache per core https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-7500-vs-Intel-i7-7700-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/2910vs2905vs3235
